[Music] do [Music] good morning boys and girls i'm really glad that you could join me this morning i gotta say i miss seeing you guys seeing your smiling faces at church and in sunday school it's hard not to be able to see each other but i'm glad that you're here today and i'm excited to teach you this new uh story maybe you've heard it before maybe it's your first time we're just glad that you're here okay well we're gonna try something different today and we're going to keep doing this until the end of the year we're going to memorize scripture we're going to memorize verses in the bible now you might be doing this in your classrooms at school maybe you do it at home with your family which is all wonderful but we could always learn more scripture because i mean look at how big this bible is it'd be great to know a lot more than just a few verses here and there it'd be great to know like whole chapters but we'll start with a verse at a time so today we're gonna learn a new verse um it's a verse found in philippians 4 verse 13. does anyone know it i probably wouldn't have thought of what that verse would be but if you know it way to go so this verse was written and spoken by a man named paul i'm sure you've heard of stories about paul in the bible because there are a lot of them in the new testament and paul spoke these words when he was after he had experienced time in prison after he had been on a ship and had a ship wreck he was out on the water and the ship there was a big storm and his ship just broke apart and he made it to land but that would be really hard to live through um he's experienced times of hunger where he didn't have any food to eat and um he's had nothing like he didn't even have a home at certain times in his life and he spoke these words he said i can do all things through christ who gives me strength he said those words after he'd experienced some very very difficult times so whether he's he was going through a good time where he had plenty or whether he was going through a really hard time where he just really had nothing except for and especially god's love and grace and strength and knowing that god was with him when he was in prison when he was in a shipwreck when he was hungry when he had nothing god was with him and he said i can do all these things through christ who gives me strength so we i'm sure we have had times where we just wonder where are you god this is a really hard thing to go through but remember that god is always with you and he is your strength in times of good and in times of hardship so on the screen you're gonna see the words and i will say them with you and then maybe next week i won't say the words and you'll just read them and and so on so you'll learn this uh verse all right so give it a go great job on the memory work all right well let's pray together before we hear the story so fold your hands close your eyes let's pray to god dear god we just thank you so much for this day this sunday which is a day of rest a day that we can celebrate you together with our church family and with people from all over the world who are also praising your name and we just pray that as we hear this new story that you'll just really help us to listen and to focus so that we can understand what happened and learn the lessons from god's word we thank you for your love in jesus name amen all right well before we get into it let's repeat after me here we go let's close my bible this is god's word it's stories are true they tell of god's love for me and for you and for everyone too awesome thanks for doing that with me all right i have something in this box nice little box and it's something wonderful and very special to all of us would you like to see what's inside well how does it make you feel if you can't see what's inside have you ever had a time where you couldn't see maybe you were in a big crowd and you were looking and you're on your tippy toes trying to see over somebody in front of you have you ever experienced that where you couldn't see what everybody else could see especially the grown-ups because they're a lot taller than you well maybe you can talk about that in the next minute talk about a time when you've experienced um where you've just haven't been able to see something and you really want to see it so take a moment and talk about that with your family well i've i remember times when i was a child and i couldn't see like when i was in church and and there were people in front of me and i just wanted to see the pastor better or see uh the words maybe on the screen and and so my dad would have to hold me or kind of lift me up a little higher so i could see or maybe i just had to move move over a little but it's not nice when you can't see what you're what everybody else is looking at well let me show you this special um picture in this box it's a picture of jesus jesus is very special and amazing and um in the story that we're gonna hear everyone was very excited to see jesus especially one person so let me tell you the story all right this story is found in luke chapter 19 verses 1 to 10. jesus entered jericho and was passing through a man was there by the name of zacchaeus there's zacchaeus he was a chief tax collector and he was very rich now if you remember a few months ago pastor andrew told a story about another tax collector from the bible maybe you remember his name he was a disciple before before he became a disciple he was a tax collector well this is another tax collector and their job was to collect the taxes from the people but they would collect a lot more money from the people than they were supposed to and so they got really rich but it was like stealing stealing from others and it's not a good thing to do is it good to take from other people no it's not so you know what these people here and many others who knew this man named zacchaeus the tax collector they did not like him they didn't like him at all in fact they hated him which is not a nice thing to do hate somebody it's terrible but they were really angry because zacchaeus would take a lot of their money that they worked very very hard for so let me tell you more he wanted to see who jesus was but because he was short he could not see over the crowd so there he is he's trying he's probably on his tiptoes trying to reach in between those two men to see is jesus coming everyone was so excited including zacchaeus oh so zacchaeus ran ahead and climbed up a sycamore fig tree to see him and since jesus was coming that way so now he is above those men below he's up higher than them what a good idea if you can't see find a way right so he found a way and he climbed a tree and he's looking for jesus where's jesus he's coming i know he's coming it's all excited i'm sure when jesus reached the spot he looked up and said to zacchaeus zacchaeus come down from there immediately i must stay at your home today wow that is so kind of jesus how do you think these people were feeling the people that did not like zacchaeus hmm i know i'd be wondering jesus what about me i'm not stealing from other people i'm not cheating how come you're not talking to me don't talk to him he's he's a liar and a cheater hmm so zacchaeus he came down at once and welcomed him gladly well all the people they saw this see they're watching they don't look too happy and they began to say to one another he has gone to be with the guest of a sinner they were not happy about this that jesus went into this tax collector's house and even wanted to go in this tax collector's house wow but zacchaeus stood up and said to the lord look lord here and now i give half of my possessions that means half of everything that i have zacchaeus said i give it to the poor the people that don't have really anything and if i have cheated anybody cheated or stole took anything from anybody out of anything if i've cheated them out of anything i will pay back four times the amount four times the amount so not just one time like oh i took ten dollars from that person no it was four times that that's a lot jesus said here's jesus he said to zacchaeus today salvation has come to this home because this man too is a son of abraham he too is a son of abraham just like you and i we are sons and daughters of abraham for the son of man came to seek and save the lost so jesus was sharing that with the others and with zacchaeus look at zacchaeus's big smile he is really happy about this jesus came to save the lost that means jesus came for the people who lie and cheat the sinners like all of us jesus came for all of us it's a wonderful story of jesus's love all right well i wonder if you guys know a song about this man named zacchaeus if you do it'd be great if you could sing along with me i will teach it to you if you don't know it and with a few actions and join along as you feel comfortable okay all right here it goes zacchaeus was a wee little man and a wee little man was he he climbed up in a sycamore tree for the lord he wanted to see and as he as the savior passed that away he looked up in the tree and he said zacchaeus you come down for i'm going to your house today for i'm going to your house today awesome well sing that one throughout the day when you get a moment all right glad you joined okay well let's end our time with prayer we begin it and we end it with prayer so let's fold our hands and close our eyes and talk to god dear god we love you and we are so sorry when we don't do as you teach us to do when we um aren't kind to others or when we take from others or we don't wait our turn please forgive us for all those things god we thank you for the story about zacchaeus and the ways that you showed love to him even though he had done some very bad things to other people we thank you for that love that you've shown and for the love that you show us and we pray that these boys and girls have a good week this week and just be near them and help them to know that you are their strength and their joy in jesus name amen awesome well i hope you guys have a great week i will see you again next
