scripture comes out of first samuel chapter 15 verse 35 and then we'll go down to chapter 16 verse 1 and it reads even to the day of his death samuel never again visited saul samuel mourned for saul and the lord regretted he had made saul king over israel the lord said to samuel how long are you going to mourn for saul since i have rejected him as king over israel fill your horn with oil and go i am sending you to jesse of bethlehem because i have selected a king from his sons if you would turn with me to the new testament scripture 2 timothy chapter 4 verses 3 through 4 and it reads thus for the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine but according to their own desires will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear something new they will turn away from hearing the truth and will turn aside to myths the word of god for the people of god thanks be unto god [Music] let us remember what the word teaches us that god loves a child forgiven it's not how much you fear but how often you give but it's how you give god [Music] lift it [Music] we thank you for allowing us to make the covenant be able to give today however it is we know that you can multiply you can take two fish and find body loads and feed the thousands god we know that you can take our offerings and multiply so we can do the work of kingdom building here in covington so come on god bless those who give bless those who have your way in jesus name oh is oh thank god as well as forgiveness [Applause] um [Music] [Music] is [Music] is [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] oh [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] wherever you may be on this sunday morning november the first to our pastor pastor siegel who has pushed his way to the sanctuary to be in the presence of god among his people to robert shiver everyday listen to heaven just could be referring to all of god's children again it's good to be in the house of the lord one more time [Music] the scripture reading has already been read in your hearing but i would just like to lift it up again to help ground me this morning first samuel chapter 15 verse 35 [Music] and 16 verse 1 and then 2nd timothy 4 chapter the 3rd and 4th verse and i'm reading from the new american standard version and it means and samuel did not see saul again until the day of his death for samuel grieved over saul and the lord regretted that he had made saw a king over his ring now the lord said to samuel how long would you grieve or saul since i have rejected him from being king over israel give me your mourn with oil they go i will send you to justice the zechariah or i have selected a king for myself among his sons in the 2nd timothy 4th chapter verses 3 and 4 reads for the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine but wanting to have their ears tickled they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desire and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths the word of god for the people of god my faith look up to me the lamb of calvary savior divine now hear me while i pray take all my guilt away oh let me from this day be holding on oh lord use me that your worst your power may come forth and that your people will hear what thus says the lord amen i'd like to use for a subject this morning we need a god-fearing leader we need a god-fearing leader the lord god is sovereign that means he is supreme dominant superior and self-doubling he's in charge what he says goes the creator who suck the stars in the sky and place the earth on his axes who created man in his own image he is the one who controls everything we like to think of ourselves as being in control but we are not when we do the choosing we make lots of mistakes the bottom line is that it is best to let god be your guide and let him do the choosing god allowed saul to be king of israel but then god repented it's hard to understand god's need for repentance and yet that is just what god did the word says the lord repented that he had made stole king over his reign that statement requires some explaining god does not sing so why should he repent god makes no mistakes so why did he appoint saul to be king in the first place you know the scripture story of household the king king god never intended for israel to be led by anyone other than himself but free will got in the way the people of israel wanted to make their own decisions and lead about leadership and they demanded a king they wanted to be like their healing nations and they want to appoint a man instead of keeping their eyes on the lord samuel the high priest tried his best to discourage the people from going down this path but the people of israel refused to obey cellular instead they said nah but we would have a king over us that we may be also like the other nations around us and that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our vows the word says that saul was goodly and choice young man who stood ahead taller than anyone else in israel god accepted israel's demand and instructed samuel to anoint the benjamin might name saul as the new leader sometimes you just get what you ask for what is it that makes us so vulnerable to leaders with wealth and height and a good outward appearance we know that's the way to choose a leader the position of leadership is ordained of god and should not be taken lightly and that israel if the one only one who judged a man by his demeanor we too often allow ourselves to be duked [Music] according to the word of god let me share you some qualities of a good leader a good leader of humble servants good leaders do not tolerate wrongdoing good leaders are honest and open good leaders make rules that people will gladly follow good leaders particular people good leaders are merciful and compassionate good leaders do not tell people to do evil good leaders are knowledgeable and mindful that the blind good leaders lead in peacefulness and godliness paul tells us to pray for our leaders and those in authority that we may live peacefully and quiet in all godliness and holiness good leaders speak respectfully good leaders are compassionate and hard working if it is encouraged then let him encourage if it's contributing to the needs of others let it be objectively if it is leadership let him govern diligently if it's showing mercy let him do it cheerfully good leaders have good advisors all around them and they take good godly advice the word of god says the lack of guidance a nation falls but many advisors make victory sure good leaders serves with love good leaders have the will to serve they are not greeted for money the word tells us be shepherds of god's flock that is under your care serving as overseers not because you must but because you are willing as god want you to be not greedy for money but eager to serve good leaders lead by example good leaders have skill and integrity and david shepherd them with integrity of a good heart with skillful hands he led the people of god good leaders are careful not hasty and finally this last class yeah i want to leave good leaders are a positive role model to everyone not every one of those qualities are backed up by scripture in the bible paul tells timothy here is a trustworthy saying if anyone sets his heart on being an overseer he desires the nova task now the overseer must be above reproach the husband of one life temporary self-control respectable hospitable able to teach not given to drunkenness not violent but gentle not qualified when god measures leaders by the qualities he set and the abilities they are qualities he looks for he knows that it's easy to be fooled by the outward sugar israel was food and they didn't get what they wanted but they should got what they deserved saul became a controlling untrustworthy wearing madman his only goal was to stay in power at any cost even if he had to go against the word of god he used god as a front for his evil actions i'm talking about we need a god-fearing leader one might ask the question how did god let this happen god didn't let this happen but israel did yes god had already chosen a man after his own heart to leave israel in the eyes of the lord's soul was disqualified the prophetic word of jacob had established that deceptible of israel of the kingship would be the part would not depart from judah and judah would eventually produce the messiah saul was the vengeance and did not meet the basic lineage requirement but god accepted israel's demands or samuel could do business and give him authority over god's people but god ultimately rejected saul did not force him to a new course of action he had permitted israel to have this king of their choice and now that the character of this king of israel miss secondly chose him they were exposed god used soul disobedience to move forward with his originals of lifting up playing a higher plan god moved forward to plant israel's feet on a higher ground god commanded celia to fill the horn with oil and go to the home of jesse the benjaminite and there he would find his superiority of reigning of a king who would fulfill his divine purpose the powers that be or are they of god it is our duty to obey those that are in authority over us so when we choose poor leaders and end up in a ditch it is not god's fault it's ours in this 21st century the word of god is still our god of course for choosing leaders what what good for saul and david is also good for the desire of the city the state or the nation god is calling us to choose wise leaders we must choose a leader who will follow god not use him as a prophet we must choose a leader who will love all people not promote them to hate one another we must choose a leader who will sean evil not partake in it we must choose a leader who will work even if it is on the weekend and especially when those he or she serve a suffering we must choose a leader who is generous and does not use our nation's wealth as a piggy bank to feel his or her own bonds i'm talking about we need a god-fearing leader as we get ready to vote on tuesday november the 3rd it is time for the people of god to look down in their hearts to choose a leader that is a god-fearing talent [Applause] [Applause] wisdom of men and women and does not limit your silence for god made the heaven and the earth we must choose a leader who is not a main caller or a word brawler we must choose a leader who has a history of success and not a failure we must choose a leader who admits he is imperfect and as hard for his wisdom we need a leader who prays we need a leader who prays we need a leader who prays and seeks god's guidance after soul israel needed a new leader they welcome david and man after god's own heart who will we rock them on november the 3rd in our lives to help govern us as a nation my beloved sisters and brothers we need to resurrect our reliance on god as christians we must stop covering in the corner in the era of great challenge to faith that some christians have become so weak that they need resuscitation they're lost their jobs and their health care some fear losing their homes therefore they're good credit rated in all of their fears are understandable i can declare with all my heart soul and my mind and in my sanctified imagination god got this god says i am in control he knows our struggles he will not let us fall don't believe me look at the truck record that's recorded they'll deliver moses and the hebrew nation from slavery god delivered joseph god delivered daniel from the lion and god delivered davis from and he made it yes he did and that's why he was able to sing with certainty i have been young and now i'm older yet i have seen the righteous have not seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging for bread we tried our best to wear out the scripture verse that says trust in the lord with all thy heart and lead not to that one understanding in all that ways acknowledge him and he shall direct our path we would never fully understand the trials and trick relations the confrontations and the challenges the difficulties of the stress in life but god has the victory in his hands he is ready to bless our obedience with favor yeah he is ready to catch us from tallest if we only trust in the lord trust when it seems like it doesn't matter trust god when your bank account is doing the late trust now when it doesn't make sense to trust us yeah he can cover the strong kingdom of jericho overnight he can keep you from falling if he can slay his hands he can keep you from falling trust the one who can cause our counterfeit smile return into unspeakable joy just the one who can move mountains out of the way trust the one who can turn a some discernment into a worship people you praise him the word says trust for there is no other way trust me saved it can go straight to the heart yeah and sadly many christians it has we have too many christians in the present faith of their salvation who have lost their passion for the lord instead of walking in the spirit they are just wanted is that a thing for you they're just singing instead of fighting the good fighter they're just fighting instead of leaving them the lord they're just leaning instead of spending time and praying they're just spending time instead of living a holy life they're just living and instead of working for the lord they're just working what does god expect of us in this present tense of our salvation jesus said if man would come after me let him deny himself and take up his cross daily did you hear what i said our salvation should move us to the the word of god so that we can teach others we've got to be strengthened by his power so that we can empower others we have to be encouraged so we can encourage others that we have to nurture others so that they can nurture someone else when life challenges catches us unaware in our anxiety we love you for good news but we shouldn't be so desperate for good news that we become so vulnerable vulnerable to those who prey on us and feed on us and tell us lies that most people want to hear current events of today is one of the best examples that i can use everybody is stressed out about cold at 19. our fear of going bankrupt is almost a pastor of fear of dying we all need some good news and it's clear that some distressed people have become vulnerable enough to believe anything by him you know there are some lies that i'm talking about that some people have already spotted you know the old fishing members say [Applause] they hunt and they say this flavors will [Music] [Applause] voting is different from mail-in vote mexicans are rapists when cause cancer millions of people vote illegally north korea and russia for our prayers we need ak-47s and ar15 to protect us obama isn't a united states citizen black lives matter but still a racist what it's trying to say is for black people are racist to the god and oh yes and when i heard the other day the 5g network is spreading the corroborators that's what most of us have on our cell phones today so let's spread it on the virus i could keep going why do people believe such lies it's because when they hear it somehow it fit into their knees they are searching for answers and it doesn't matter what answer any answer they will make them feel better about themselves and the world around them the apostle paul warns timothy of this tree he tells timothy that the time is coming when people won't listen to sound teaching instead they will search up teachers who would tell them what their engineers want to hear poor timothy were dealing with people countering his teachings with myths about greeks and roman godhood and goddesses they were even exaggerating stories among the jewish scriptures being taught the truth they were man-made rules about circumcision and dietary habits so how does today christian tell a thought from a lie if there's a truth we are being tested by the word of god the truth lines up with the word of god timothy was a very young preacher at the church of ephesus he was about maybe 17 years old now the job of being a citizen pastor pastor is another but not a young person he had to deal with a lot of stuff with the membership in the congregation and because of this age he would have to face more than just the challenges to his teaching but paul reminded timothy all scripture that is given is inspired by the word of god or from god and it's possible for the doctrine to reproof the corruption the instruction in righteousness in other words i like to use my sanctified imagination and say paul was telling timothy stick to the word of god stick to the word tell that they had a good strong spiritual foundation he was raised by some jewish family but he had some good solid foundation so now listen if you want to be a strong dependable christian who lives a godly life you got to be able to wait what you hear for what man against you say you have to be able to study the word of god if you want to know the truth paul tells timothy to stand his ground to rightly divide the word of truth and don't wear or fear to the right but fear to the love that the never god may be perfect thoroughly furnished unto all good works and how do you know that the spirit of god is within us there is such a thing as a christian common sense and i like to say that common sense is the holy spirit the holy spirit is of god and it is given by god to us that we might know the things that god freely gives us god would not leave us to interpret the word on our own the word of god is inspired and interpreted by the holy spirit [Applause] here we are and the spirit speaks to us god is protecting us and he will never tell us something or do something that will harm us and there are a lot of spirits out there in the world there are some holy ones there's the spirit that will tell you to do evil to do wrong but we need to test it by the lord most christians knew that this virus was coming yeah they knew and we knew it wasn't gonna be and it would be gone away we knew that 15 cases were going to turn into 500 and 500 and the 9 000 we knew it because god spoke to our spirits so we closed our churches and looked for other ways to worship god that has not been able to stop us from worshiping him and the president of the united states told us our doors would be open on easter but they didn't because god was telling us something different and sure enough the virus has gone viral god's word and god's truth will always come to pass we who belong to christ see the world differently and that's the reason why we need a god-fearing leader man a leader who sees with the spiritual eyes that will keep us on track with the lord and how will he keep us on track with the lord because a good leader will find himself down on his knees seeking wisdom we are free from doubt destruction and disappointment of this world we are free from the perplexities from the burdens from the persecutions of this world we are free from the ignorance and the afflictions the battles and the burdens of this world because jesus headed down to 42 generations and he moved in so and so today as we get closer to tuesday just be sure to ask the lord to give us a god daring leader [Music] nation and to live up to the true potentials that they in god we trust [Music] [Music] [Music] one that quenches our first one that gives us everything we need we can find it in jesus so we don't have to worry about anything on tuesday because we have a leader in jesus christ and our father who sits there looking down on [Music] you us desires of your heart just seek me continue to keep your eyes focused on me and i will give you what you need if there'll be one today that don't know who this god theory leader is [Music] he's none other than jesus the christ we offer him to you this [Music] the right here saying all in the church while you are here alert come on bob stop on call us and check in because it's not about us it's all about the lord jesus christ the one that we serve the one that we're praising the one that we are glorifying call the church come by the church slip a door underneath the church and say i need that jesus that god very person i need to become and just remember we're not perfect but we serve the one who is is that the one just call us and we will be there to walk this journey right with you to god be the glory pray for god fearing leader and that we become a god bearer [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] is [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] my [Music] as we prepare to serve communion you will ask that you get your cabinet your bread your crackers your juice your water whatever it may be today along with the elements at this time so that you will be prepared the commandments of god and walking from his forth in his holy way draw with everything and take this holy sacrifice to your comfort and make your own confession to almighty god meekly kneeling upon your legs it has recite the general confession together almighty god father by the lord jesus christ maker of all things judge of all men we acknowledge in the will of mental sins and wickedness which from time to time was created without committed that thought right indeed against your divine righteousness the vulcan was just against us we do use an event and our heart i'm sorry for these are these doings that were members of the streets unto us have mercy upon us have mercy on us most merciful father but our son our lord jesus christ save forgive us all that has happened and grant that we may have forgave to serve and please be in the new life through forgiveness of sins to all them that then how they repent and true faith turn unto thee adverse upon us hunt and deliver us from our sins confirm our faith and strengthen us in our business and bring us to everlasting life through jesus christ our lord oh my god unto whom our hearts are open all desires known and from whom those secrets are hidden cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of the holy spirit that we may prayerfully love thee and where they might decide our holy name through jesus christ of the lord it is very meek right now the body of duty and we should at all times in our places give thanks unto thee oh lord holy father almighty everlasting god therefore the angels and our angels the dogs are coming from heaven the lord is magnified in the name there are more praises insane holy holy holy lord god of hopes heaven and earth for thy glory glory be to thee oh lord the most high will you not presume to come to this guy's table over it's followers strengthening all our righteousness but in that manifold and great nurses we are we are not worthy so much as together the crown on that table but thou art the same law whose property is to always to have mercy grant us therefore gracious lord so to eat the flesh of that dear son jesus christ and to drink his blood that our sinful souls and bodies may be made clean by his death and washed through his blood and that we may ever more dwell in him and he and us amen only son jesus the christ who suffered death on the cross for our redemption who made thereby his oblation of himself once often a full perfect and sufficient sacrifice oblation and satisfaction for the sins of the whole world and gabe institute and in his holy gospel command us to continue a perpetual memory that is precious death until it's coming again hear us and worship the father we must unbelieve and grant that we receive these like creatures of bread and dear institute and remembers of his death and passion may be partakers of his most blessed body and blood who didn't save might when he was betrayed he took the break and when you're doing things he'd break it and gave it to his disciples saying take it this is my body which is spoken for you do this as open as you do remember me like why i saw the supper he took the cuff and when he had given thanks he gave it to them sins directly one of it for this is my blood for the testament which is shed for you and for many for the remission of sins do this as often as you should drink it amber members of me amen are the brother jesus is right fighting my sister is lord of jesus [Music] so [Music] so [Music] so so [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] the prayer thanksgiving oh lord our heavenly father we are the homeless servants desire the heavenly goodness mercifully to accept this our sacrifice to praise and thanksgiving most humbly position thee to grant that by the merits and death of thy son jesus christ and through faith in his blood we and the whole church may obtain the mission of our sins and all the benefits of his passion and here we offer and present unto thee oh lord ourselves our souls and bodies to be a reasonable holy and righteous sacrifice unto me humbly because indeed that all we who are partakers of this holy communion may be filled with thy grace
