[Music] today let's talk about digital certificates they're a little bit of an abstract idea it's not really something you can see whenever anybody purchases a digital certificate their first impulse is to go ahead and open the file and look at it it's not really like that the digital certificate is something that verifies and tags you as you so when you order it it's not instantaneous the company order it from they're going through a process they're checking your name and address against other data i don't even know where maybe lexisnexis maybe public record something and the purpose of it is to tag your signature with it and everything you sign as a remote online notary so i've got this screen up here this is ident trust most digital certificates are purchased from i didn't trust and if you are watching this i didn't trust just send me a big old check later so you'll see when you scroll down here that they even have noted here under personal and professional or e-notary services so it's this now you still don't want to just order what you see a platform is going to have a standard that needs to be met and so you want to verify with the platform you use as an online notary which exact digital certificate you should get so i think the least expensive one now is an igc basic assurance digital certificate for one year and you've also got a three-year option i understand why people buy the one year it's so you know you can see if this is going to work if you're going to be able to make online notarization into a career a full-time job on a three or five year certificate they're way less expensive annually and there's so many other costs with being an online notary that you want to try to to drive those costs and fees down as much as you can get a longer digital certificate that way you're not trying to swap it out later update your platform update everything with the state all of this just just get the longest one you can afford they let you choose here if you are signing up with a platform that is listed it makes it easier because it narrows down so igc basic assurance unaffiliated the 59 is the one year i bet the 139 is three years and then you'll order it now it will show up in your email later and it will be specialized encrypted it'll have a time limit on it they're not going to just let it sit there forever in your email so whenever that gets hacked somebody can go in there and steal your digital certificate when you save it put it somewhere you'll be able to find it again i cannot tell you how many dozens of online notaries i have spoken with who cannot find their digital certificate but rather than describe what the digital certificate is and does let me show you so here i signed this document back in march this was my statement of officer so that i could submit it to the secretary of state to become an online notary and you'll see here it says digitally signed by catherine cabrera well let's click on it and see what happens it says it's valid and some signature properties it says when i signed it it's signed let's see the certificate ah i didn't trust good because that's where i purchased it from and there's the details and my certificate it look it's valid from 2020 to 2022. okay so i have a two year certificate and it's telling you that the document has not been modified since my signature was applied so that's the digital certificate showing the end user if the form is good if it has been tampered with or not and this one hasn't that's what the digital certificate looks like as much as it's going to look like anything just keep in mind that this form is not the digital certificate this is just something i signed using my digital certificate i wanted to show you where i put my digital certificate so that you can be thinking about where you're going to store yours so that you can find it anytime you need it so i save mine to my desktop in my ron documents folder under where i keep it ron files for biz so anything that has to do with my online notarization business i put it all in one place so i can always find it it's also where i keep my electronic steel and then i made a little folder for a digital certificate so it would be easy for me to search i could just type in the words digital certificate and i should be able to find these if i need them in a year or two you'll see there's two files if you purchase from ident trust you will receive two and if you didn't get two you need to call them so you'll have two once encrypted and one's not and i will also say this i didn't trust is pretty darn responsive i talked to a lot of online notaries and i've had several tell me that they called i didn't trust and some really knowledgeable person was there and helped walk them through everything especially for mac users because i'm not a pro on mac i can't really help with that very much but the folks over it i didn't trust they definitely can [Music] you
