I'm Patrick Bailey with white board coder calm today is July 24 2015 I'm going to show you how to mount a second slider on a zipper like a backpack would have it mounted now here's a simple example that I've already put together where the two zippers meet in the middle you know this is kinda like how a backpack works so let's start with a fresh zipper here I got so what I have here is I have a new slider and a new extra-long zipper here now I just want to make sure you could mount these you can say backwards I guess it's an example is where they actually mount them opposite where they meet in the middle and zip out but that's not how my backpack works I just want is if er I need to replace I need to replace a zip on my backpack that's why I'm doing this so now if I zip this all the way it stops so my first thought was there is a little you can see it very well it's a little nub there on the end so I thought well I just file that down then I can mount it well it doesn't work because if you look at these sure yeah there's nothing special there about the ends I think they're called top stops and so they stop it there's nothing special about it if you file that down you actually can't zip the other way but now if you look at the other end and I'm not a zipper expert but the two attachments here you can see that one has a tooth on it and so I think you need that to mount it I don't know but anyway you can't you can't just merely file that down at least not with a zipper so I got kind of smart about a little bit in thought well what if I just cut it so all you got to do is cut so choose a spot and just cut those top stops off and so now you got that so there's nothing much on the end there now so just take those away and then all you gotta do is take your other zipper I mean your slider and try to get it in there I take a few tries to get it just right but there you go that's all there is to it so there we go I'm done now you do need to stitch this up at the end so it's not gonna fall apart and that's called a switch ditch okay it's actually called a whip stitch now there's a video here I'll put a link to by Professor pincushion on how to shorten a zipper and it shows you how to make the whip stitch but you do need to stitch this so this is not gonna come apart cuz I can just pull this apart in this and that's no good so you need to sew this up so you basically have it stop there so it won't come apart but now that I know how to do this I think I can use this to fix my backpack and I hope that helps someone out there who had the question that I did is can you take a zipper and now the other slider on it backwards and the answer is looks like you can now if you want the details on what specifically this zipper is just to make sure if you need to get one to make sure you get that kind of does work imagine they all do it but this is the one I'm testing right now I'll contain this video on I'll show you exactly the one I bought from zipper shipper here's the zipper I purchased from zipper shipper dot-com and I'll zoom in on the link here so you can actually see where it's from just in case and I'll probably try to put the link in my show notes it's a number 10 moulded plastic extra-long heavy-duty separating zipper and I got the black one I got a 72 inch and I got the one handle auto lock and that's so it locks when it's closed down it doesn't it's not double-sided like the picture here actually shows a zipper that has a handle on both sides I just got one side because it's gonna since it's gonna go on a backpack and then I got an extra slider now here's their slider page and I'll zoom in on that now it's a little bit more cryptic to try to find things in here so I bought a number ten auto lock slider for molded plastic zipper and the black ones that's the guy I got there and I got two I got two zippers so I got two of these so I had an extra slider for each a zipper I got yes that's what I bought well thanks for watching and I hope you found this video useful
