saying arise and go toward the south and to the way that goes down from jerusalem unto gaza which is a desert and he arose and went and behold a man of ethiopian and eunuch of great authority under kansas queen of the ethiopians who had the charge of all her treasure and had come to jerusalem for to worship was returning and sitting in his chariot read isaiah the prophet then the spirit said today you have a divine assignment let me say it one more time you have a divine assignment i don't care wherever you are in the airways on tv i'll be able to hear you say amen and i need you to say to yourself make this thing very personal say i have a divine assignment it's funny that our praise team sang songs tonight about saying yes to the lord because more and more in my devotional time i have been led to meditate on one simple word and that word is yes maybe it is the the season of that we happen to be in but that simple word is so important now but because it speaks to our agreement with the lord about whatever his will is for our lives yes lord before we get any direction or think seriously about any part of our destiny we have to be open to tell god yes when god calls this story about philip's connection with god he is always ready to respond and as i read it i could hear philip saying yes god i'll go where you tell me to go i'll be who you tell me to be i'll do what you tell me to do yes god now i need us to understand something this is not philip the apostle who walked with jesus but this philip is one of the seven faithful servants chosen by god and appointed by the apostles to serve the widows to overlook their daily needs their feeding within the community of faith so the bible says that he was uniquely qualified to serve a man of good reputation a man full of the spirit and of wisdom these first seven deacons not title come on somebody but function were servants but they were also evangelists so as i began to study about philip the first thing that i found out that he was an evangelist come on somebody so he was appointed and he was available to share the good news of jesus christ in the midst of get this his daily responsibilities he still had the responsibility of the widows but in the midst of the responsibility that he had he still had time to preach the gospel of jesus christ so because of how the lord chose to work in their lives they were ready for their divine assignment because they believed god and they believed in kingdom work that god requires so the lord has major plans for those who belong to him see i've got a feeling that you and i are being set up set up for a life-changing encounter in the midst of the pandemic has anybody had a life-changing encounter or have we been so busy complaining talking about woe is me that we can't even see him in the midst of what's going on i want to have a life-changing encounter with my lord and savior jesus christ i don't know about you i understand the pandemic is here but in the midst of the pandemic i see jesus so what is it are set up for it's a set up for the very power of god to work in and through us because god is in fact ordering our footsteps and guiding our pathways let me let me tell us something about divine assignment we see we can expect that god is going to set us up on assignments that demands our attention and our anointing when you have the right attitude you have to know that there's no coincidence no chance encounters nothing just happens when you are in god's service god will put you in the presence of people that you need to meet because ultimately there's somebody who needs your anointing come on god y'all god wants to work with work us while he is working it out for us oh i think i need to say that again god wants to work us let me say it again god wants to work us while he's working it out for us you all know the scripture in the book of isaiah that says they that wait upon the lord shall renew their strength if you look in the hebrew at the word wait it's not uh uh it's not passive sitting down it's active anticipation so while i am waiting on god i am working for y'all better help me up in here i am working for god so while god wants to work us he's also working it out for us so my word for us this morning is to let it happen and just say yes see on the other side of your yes to god is a life of impact and promise see even the stuff even the encounters that we would prefer not to have every moment with god is meaningful and for some reason as christians we don't think that we're supposed to go through anything the trouble is that we don't always know where it will lead us so sometimes it leads us into situations we don't think we are ready for and to places we would rather not be but wherever and however god leads we can handle it if we would just say yes so this is the question how do we create space for god to work in our lives and ask yourself that question how do i create space for god to work in my life number one obedience releases opportunity obedience releases let me put in parentheses opportunity but obedience also releases blessings come on somebody i don't care how much we praise him and i know the the we are good at saying when the praises go up blessings come down but i say when obedience goes up blessings shall not come down come on obedience releases opportunities see the first thing we can do to create space for god to work is remember that obedience always releases opportunity so the angel of the lord told phillip to go south listen at this philip didn't need a navigation system he had one his name is jesus christ so he told him to go south down a desert road away from jerusalem come on somebody you see what y'all do y'all see what's going on here listening to god for philip was a habit phillip was used to following god's lead that he he didn't even second guess where he was going he just went there was no effort there was no argument there was no hesitation there was no five-year plan help me holy ghost there was no vision board there was no excuses when he said go philip got up and he went and he ends up where god wants him to be why because of obedience so i am convinced that that is the answer to much of the issues today because first samuel 15 22 22 tells us that obedience is better than sacrifice so one of the tragedies in the church today is that we don't want to obey god come on y'all it's much easier to do our own thing how many times have we known that we should do something but we let everything and everybody else keep us from doing it how often have we not even bothered to ask god what he wants for our lives oh i see you raising your hand amen some of us just go ahead and do it we never seek god for direction in our lives and he is supposed to be our daddy our father our lead our director come on somebody but yet and still the one who created us the one who's in charge of us we will not go to him for direction and that's why we end up in situations that we are in then we have to go back to him to get us out of what we got ourselves into so i'm reminded of a principal that gives me a reality check for ministry people only do what they choose to do nobody nobody can make us do what we are supposed to do come on we have to have faith to move as the lord leads and let me tell you something that's what it means to be grown up come on i don't care how old you are amen you can be 88 89 and 90. amen but if we are not being led by the holy spirit we are still drinking milk so obedience is better than sacrifice better than superficial shows better than getting my way i'll go wherever you send me do whatever you're calling me to do i will be your disciple i will be your follower i will be your wife i will be your husband i'll be your son i will be your daughter i will be your friend i will be your student i will be your co-worker i will be your servant i have an assignment this is the next thing always be prepared to preach if you want to see god move always be prepared to preach so the ethiopian asked phillip tell me who the prophet was talking about when he said the prophet he was talking about isaiah so philip tells him the good news about jesus so philip is not only available but he doesn't come to the task in empty-handed handed phillips got a word y'all better hear me see when i looked at this text i see that phillip he didn't have no master's degree he didn't have any seminaries training no ordination certificate he just knew how to tell the good news all he knew was to tell was just jesus in that psalm writers say just jesus just jesus imagine if we if philip had said i don't have anything to share but philip was prepared to preach amen and we need to understand something i i can hear in my spirit now people say well i'm not a preacher all of us are preachers ordained preachers are called to lead but every believer amen has to be able to preach and if you look the word up in the dictionary all it talks about is telling the good news amen you must have some word in you to condition the word coming out of you amen no matter what else you may do you may sing well you may shout well you may dance well you may praise well you may serve well you may administer well you may usher well you may welcome well but you better have some word in the inside of you so the world world needs some believers with a testimony of who god is what god has done and what he's able to do see we've got to be able to tell the story of why god created the heaven and the earth we've got to be able to tell the story how he created humanity in god's image and in his likeness we got to tell somebody how how how faithful noah was in his family how he rescued them from the flood we got to tell them how god delivered the people out of slavery into the promised land we got to tell them how god remained faithful to those people through the wilderness even through their disobedience he still got him there you don't know anything else you ought to be able to tell them about shadrach meshach and abednego in the fiery furnace and how god was able to deliver them but if you don't know every detail of the bible you ought to be able to tell them how at the right time a virgin by the name of mary gave birth to the living savior who walked the earth healing and teaching and delivering and saving we ought to be able to tell somebody how he hung how he bled and how he died on that old rugged cross if we can't tell him nothing else we ought to be able to tell him how he got up on easter sunday morning with all power in his hand tell them how sin has been forgiven and believers have been set free tell them the truth that jesus is still alive and his spirit is in you and in me tell them that the kingdom of god is real and that he reigns forever and ever and ever so if you want to give them some good news that we all have to give we are to be able to give an answer for the hope that's within us tell somebody that god is love that god is able that god is holy that god is merciful that god is gracious that god is good now let me tell you you can't preach what you don't know come on somebody you can't talk about what you don't feel come on somebody you can't testify about what you don't believe but let me tell you something every now and then it's like fire shut up in my bones and i've got to tell somebody about how good he is this is the last thing let your life be a way for god to do wonderful things by number one realizing that obedience releases opportunity always be prepared to preach and finally get out of the way in the last part of this encounter with philip and the ethiopian the ethiopian asks philip what is stopping me from being baptized come on somebody now if he wasn't ethiopian it tells me he was an african brother come on somebody and he and and he not only needed word but he also needed water come on the question was really is there room for me in this gospel we have been talking about they had water they had the word the only hold up would have been phillip come on somebody but philip got out of god's way because baptism is inclusion come on it's not just an empty religious exercise but it's a faith act that confirms that we are in the family of grace so what we do we make room for jesus when we make room for somebody else somebody probably saying pastor you still haven't told me my assignment yes i have oh i've told you your divine assignment your assignment your divine assignment and divine means godly your godly task is to tell somebody about jesus christ so philip didn't say listen this this is us philip didn't say i can't baptize you because you're a eunuch which meant that he was unclean he said i didn't i can't baptize you because you don't dress like we dress come on somebody you don't look like we look you're not around from where we are around philip got out of god's way and didn't let any of his personal feelings or issues close this brother out come on somebody have you ever been in church and the wrong person walked in the church and everybody turn around and look turn the noses up as if that person is not supposed to be there come on somebody oh i've been there before i don't know why it is that we think that we are so good come on that we can turn our noses up at anybody so what we're doing one piece of dirt is turning their nose up at another piece of dirt don't let christianity get in the way of christ oh i wish i had time to tell you that we aren't holy unless we're helping somebody your anointing means nothing if your attitude is alienating people you are not the church if god's other children don't have room next to us even listen at this even our worship is worthless if the spotlight is always on us it's not even about us getting something out of it but it's what we have to give that sets the real followers of christ apart from the frauds so let's get real nobody deserves god's grace but god made a way for us anyway and that's when we ought to say hallelujah for favor hallelujah for forgiveness hallelujah for deliverance hallelujah for freedom i think i'll leave right here and tell you again that you have a divine assignment when god saved us he was setting us up to see somebody else say don't shout about how good he's been to you shout on how good he can be through you so my question is are you ready for your divine assignment and this is where i'm almost done because when you have an assignment god will break out every angel army on heaven and earth and he will say not because you're so good but because what i've given you is so important he will lead you to the place he has prepared for you and you have to touch somebody and say god's got my back he has given us a special assignment so he knows that we need special assistant come on somebody let me say it again he has given us a special assignment so he knows that we need special assistance so what you're talking about pastor so i went over to matthews 28 19 through 20. where it said therefore go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the father and of necessarily what i deserve but when he looks beyond my faults and he sees my knees he tells me that i will be with you in the midst of a pandemic i'll be with you with people dying i'll be with you no jobs i'll be with you no money i'll be with you friends have left you i'll be with you how long will he be with us he said even until the end of the ages until the end of the ages he said he will be with us so come what may from day to day my god we'll take it take care of us we have to be available and we have to avail ourselves to the assignment the divine assignment that god has for each and every one of us we thank god for his goodness we thank god for his mercy we thank god for the visitation of the holy spirit in this place and i believe that there's someone out there that's been struggling and you've been running for a long time if you've gotten to the crossroads of not knowing which way to go you have this voice over here that's saying he can't do anything for you you have this one over here that says accept me as lord and savior i would rather die knowing him and have accepted him and die and then find out it wasn't him then die then not accepting him and find out there was a savior so we asked you today to accept him as your personal savior just open your mouth wherever you are say god forgive me of my sin that's it say god i believe that your son died but i also know that you raised him from the dead god i want to be saved that's that's all you have to say i want to be in your family i want to be in a relationship with you just say yes to it say yes god i receive you yes god i believe you yes god i'm tired of running yes god i'm tired of doing things my own way yes god tell them say my storage is empty but i'm available to you won't you accept him today as lord and savior why don't you pray with me father god i'm coming to you today empty wanting to be filled by you just say to him forgive me of my sins tell them god i know you sent your son to
