hey seventh grade nice to see you guys i hope you had a great summer if you're new to the school and you don't know me my name is miss blanchfield and i'm going to be your art teacher all year long and you all are going to have art with me on i'm trying to see what day it is i believe you are on fridays that's bad i should know that i think you're having art with me on friday so every friday watch for a video on your google classroom just like this and then you can watch it anytime during the week and post your art on google classroom the next week on friday if you're unsure how to get a picture of your art on to google classroom i did post information videos for you on either using a chromebook or smartphone of how to take a picture and then make sure you're submitting it through google classroom so that's up on your stream on google classroom so if you would please do that that would be great um we are going to start off with a fun and simple project and these are the supplies so if you would let me tell you what they are and you can gather them up and then i'll come back and show you what the project is and teach you how to do it so you're going to need a piece of paper so um just printer paper for this week is fine if you have drawing paper or if you have a construction white construction paper that's that would be fine too but please don't use this special paper that i sent home yet we're going to save that for another project so just a piece of white paper you're going to need a pencil with an eraser you will need your sharpie and colored pencils okay so that's paper pencil with eraser sharpie and colored pencil this is a little bit of a longer project so we'll see how it goes i think we should be able to get it done by by this week um but a week from now on friday okay so that's when it's due so go ahead and go gather those items and i'll meet you back here in just a minute and we'll get started on the project all right welcome back thanks for going to get all of your supplies um it's hard to see because now i'm recording at the school so i have a piece of white paper here on the white desk so it's a little bit difficult for you to see but the first step in our project is going to be for you to line up your paper in the vertical or portrait position okay so remember in the world of art when it's tall like this we call it vertical or portrait when it's this way we call it horizontal or landscape okay so you are in the vertical portrait position your job is to create a story with the letter of your name okay what i what do i mean let's say your name begins with a letter s i would like you to create a large letter s fill up the whole page no little bitty guys like this okay we need it the whole page i know you guys can do it and wide too and i want the letter to be thick so please don't just draw a line because that won't work for you you need a nice thick letter s okay you're drawing your letter s with pencil and then you're going to outline it with i think it looks better with the fine point sharpie so if you have that you can outline your letter but um let's hold off for just a minute on the outlining let me tell you the rest of this so that you understand what to do now once you have your letter drawn i might as well show you i have done mine in pencil and so i'm going to talk to you while i'm um i'm going to show you this while i'm talking so here's my big letter m can you see i know our camera is not the best but it's pretty fat it fills up the whole page i probably could have gone a little bit taller but anyway there's my m in a second you'll see it better when i start to outline it the reason that i need you to make it thick like this is because inside the m you need to tell a story and that means i want to see pictures of things that are things that are about you or that you like okay so let's say you played softball at somewhere on a team or at school i would like you to draw a softball and your softball if you want for fun can extend out past the outline of the letter m this is why we didn't outline the m yet because maybe maybe we want to um do our drawing i think this if i remember right i think the strings kind of go like this something like that so uh we didn't outline the letter m because maybe some parts of our drawing will extend past that okay and so i can get rid of those because now i have an uh the ball that comes out past the outline of my m what else do i like okay well i like art so maybe i can draw a paintbrush in here or maybe i can draw um a palette with some paints or something on it i'll just draw a paintbrush for now because we're trying to do something pretty quick here i'm sorry i apologize i don't have a whole completed one for you but i did leave you one in the sample so you can see it um let's say you want to include some other letters of your name you could do that so you could write your name right here and you could put those in interesting fun colors eventually or you if you do kind of bubble that fun bubble writing or any type of writing that you've invented boy this camera is terrible i'm sorry it's going in and out of focus um i would like that if you have a pet or if you love say you love squirrels or you love airplanes or you like spaghetti i don't know anything that is about you or that you like is in here what i want to avoid is too many words so i'm okay with your name or maybe one or two words let's say you like um gardening but you don't know how to draw that you could write the word gardening or you could do something like you could draw a little plant here we go i'll draw a potted plant like that here's the pot and look it's crooked maybe this goes off the edge too it's okay to let a few things come off the edge of your paper just make sure it still looks like your your letter of your name okay so once you fill up this whole m i'm talking fill it up it's okay if i see little gaps right around in here but this this is a nice big space you can put something else in there so make this do your best work if you tell me i don't know how to draw all i can draw stick figures then i don't know we got to figure that out i know you can draw a circle which means you can draw a ball i know you can draw lines which means you can draw a baseball bat or or a paint brush so give me your best i don't want to see a lot of stick figures give me some interesting things so fill up your whole entire letter and then with your fine point sharpie so that's the one with the little bitty like this okay it's called ultra fine if you don't have that um you could use a ballpoint pen that's black like one that you use for writing just don't use one of those erasable kinds because that that doesn't work out for us so you're going to outline your letter and then when you get here if you have something going off the edge outline the object and take your time fill in all the stuff and then i would like you to use color pencils please to color in these items now you're going to ask me probably do we have to color the letter to do we have to color the objects and the letter i'm going to leave that up to you let's say you have a whole bunch of really colorful objects and you think it looks better if you leave your letter white in the background i'll be okay with that as long as i see a lot of color on the page so if i see mostly white with black outline then it means you got to do some more work okay so you're just going to go around outline everything and then fill it all in with your colored pencil if you decide that you want to color your letter so let's say my m is blue and this is a softball it would be completely fine to leave that softball white because it is white but maybe you might want to use some colored pencils to give me red stitches on here like baseballs and softballs do okay so you get the idea you don't have to watch me do this whole entire thing please remember at the end that i want you to take a picture of this and upload it into google classroom and you have a whole week to do that so you should you could spend a little bit of time on it and come back to it over the course of the week a little bit maybe each day so that you're not doing it all at once that would be great so i'm looking forward to seeing these i hope you're having a good time and yay thank you thumbs up see you soon
