Save multiplex date

hi this is James gardener also known as the senior tech geek and I'm here today for small sinner owners association to show you their new tools free for any qualified small cinema to use to help you run your cinema more effectively cost-effectively to give you more time to better serve your community now these tools are developed by digital and I'm the principal developer and one of the directors of digital and I've put a lot of effort into and put forth the you know trying to get these tools to be made available to other small cinemas because you know we believe here at digital that a rising tide lifts all boats and that having these tools available to other small cinemas as well as developed for our own it doesn't doesn't hurt us doesn't really hurt any anyone it just improves the community improves the culture of cinema so I'm showing you these tools today to show to tell you you know that what's coming there's a few things here are we're making available today there's quite a few things still in development and I'll mention a few of them now but not all of them these are part of the toolset that was developed to help run our cinema chain which is a set of small regional locations our main model here is to try and 4-digit all this to try and implement technologies which is which allows us to make smaller regional communities more viable for running small cinemas and that's what we're doing here and you're sharing these tools for the pre-existing smaller cinema community so let's get in have a look at some of the things we've developed which might be very helpful to you now it's up to you to have a look at I'll show you this some of these tools today and if they look like they're going to be helpful just um you can just a contacts go and apply for an account and we'll let you straight in but let's have a quick look at what we're looking at here so I'm going to jump to the screen here we go this is just the login screen obviously my credential just saved you login now there's a lot of data here at the moment this is a sort of got more data than you would see because it's my admin screen it's got all the pre-existing and developed developed tools being developed as well you only get to see pretty much this this this tool this tool in your profile page and we're going to jump into the first tool that we're going to offer here which is called the release tool so what does a release tool do well as a small cinema owner it's typical for small cinemas for some reason Australia that they get content quite late they're restricted from content now we can see that by actually looking at the data tool the data mining tool on the schoo website already this is if you go to the cinema side you'll see a list of all the cinemas and you click on the delay here you'll see here it talks about this calculates in real time every week how you know what's the average number of weeks that your cinema gets content so if you get it or you know how many you know content in the first week second week do good for fourth week and it basically averages that out and tells us who's getting treated you know very well and who's not getting treated so well and you'll see down here when you get down to three or more that most of those locations are small cinemas and unfortunately a lot of the stupid is don't actually give out the information sheet which is like a it's like a recommended retail price of what the when the films going to come out and how much knew what the policies were required and the terms etc they don't often give that to small cinemas and also that also puts a Sun of the very back foot of knowing what's coming and you know before we know it one of the times I said the window was closed we see might see a film coming and that you call and say oh the window is closed you can't have it - a lot later so this tool is to try and help you to get in early to arrange your content early especially if your your community thinks it'll be interesting so let's jump into the tool and see how that is done now women at the release window and you'll see here basically what it is doing it's extrapolating when you know the slate as people call it or what's coming up in the near future and from here you can actually you set the date range that you're going to look at because there's quite a lot of data that's dealing with so you limit it to the where you want it to look at and from there you can do things like create filters I've created a number of filters here you can activate the filters by turning on the actor that you can change the order in this list by moving them up or down and you can delete them you can double click on the names and change the names or you can click on these buttons here to actually select all the locations that you want to add in this filter in terms of which distributors you want to to restrict so if I go here and say just I wanna see main distributors I'm only seeing the most as in the timeline now you can also again do more searching by having a look at that this table here that gives you a number of items to search from commonly if you for example you want to see PG films etc and that'll just restrict the search to PG or younger see comedy and you put comedy in there and delete it there you just see the comedy film so it's very useful for it for trying to dig in and filter to exactly the sort of films you want to see on the timeline then you actually have the timeline itself just clicking on these nodes will collapse or open them up and on the timeline we'll just get rid of that filter there obviously if you put your mouse over any item on the timeline it'll give you details on that poster and other bits and pieces the distributor in genres and if you click on the item and then comes with all the dated probably one free if you're doing research do I want this filament what's the blurb synopsis actors and all that sort of stuff links to IMDB tmdb the trailer you watch the trailer go fullscreen to give you an idea what it's like for example so everything's there that you would possibly want to do a lot of research on the potential films coming up and this gives you a good very good context of it coming up in the near future so you can get very much in advance of you know making sure that you book the film well in advance so it's more likely you'll get it when you need it now you also see here and obviously some navigation buttons you can just click and drag the timeline up before example you can go in and out so you can see more see less now some nice things about this here is that you can actually turn on the school holiday so you can see the school for those who for the particular region you're in when they start and end that's extremely important because holidays are very much a time when you make money so you really want to know the context really what films you're getting in and outside of the school holiday so this gives you a really good way of figuring in that all out public holidays as well you can turn that on and off you'll see this in public holidays here you can turn on some week so it just gives you a week's so you can see now some interesting things so you'll see some things are quite small here so that's indicating that item is subbing in that week or that period but it's starting the day before the next period and that's just the way that they like to do it sometimes but that's sort of squeezes up that way so I know that that films starting there but it's starting in a strange date you can put the duration button on which will make everything basically the length based on its duration so you've got an idea based on how long the film is relative to other films so film duration can be very important so if a very long film obviously can be a problem sometimes so that might help you figure that out but it does rely on the data that gets updated every week into the system one feature that's very new added just recently is the Google Trends feature so see here we have to select some items and it'll it'll do it to the last five items selected in this case I'll use an example of we're going to have a look at the upcoming kids film so frozen to Adams family and queens Corgi now if we select those items they will be selected down here now you can select these three different patterns so when it does the Google Trends it'll do it with the title the title movie at the end or the title with the trailer at the end because sometimes you want to refine the search for Google Trends so we'll just go to the top one for now and you'll see it'll open up Google Trends with both three topics now you'll see here straight away that frozen just kills the others which you'd have to you know you'd be come to expect but some things I do sometimes is I take out the commas because or in this case the date because people are unlikely to search it based on those criteria so makes it easier to fix those searches and to get a better idea of what's going on now here you'll see that it always comes up to a hundred relative to that the the it always comes to the top of a hundred because the trends are all sort of relative based on each other because the Google doesn't give you that much information but they'll give you the trend of what's actually going on based on these you can actually see the interest at this particular time on the last 90 days of those particular searches and what people are looking for so it gives you an idea of what may be popular what may be not so in this sort of case let's let's knock it out frozen because it's you know obviously very very popular and now we can have a look at all cranks Corgi and Adams family Adams family obviously is trending a lot better than Queens Corgi so you'd be more inclined to to book Adams family obviously now after looking at these trends data then you would the cleanse coffee now you could for example go back to here and do a search and trying to refine it a bit more so because you know typically a lot of people type in the name of the film and trailer so we'll quickly get rid of um some of the anomalies in here that we are that tends to give us better results and we'll have a look at what's going on now so this is a sort of amount of time people actually searching for the name of the film with the trailer on the end again you can see that the frozen is is really doing well and Adams family is just popping up here and we're not really getting a lot of Quinns coffee at all at all gives you another sort of aspect of what people may be doing around in terms of how they're searching for films and if you may help you decide what films you may want to take and may not take because you're not sure if it's going to be a good film gonna get a lot of traction or not so that's a new feature I call it the Google Trends feature to try and give you a better idea if you've sitting on the fence if you want to take a film or if you've got two films which is similar and you're not sure we're trying to get it'll help you decide which ones to do to go for so let's keep going so as you go down you'll see some other things there's some indicators here you'll see these little markers here on certain films and then indicates that of all you put them in for you see here that says the that films been confirmed I've bought that film for some of my cinema so I can know what films off booked already when I'm looking at the timeline to ensure that I'm not looking at something I've already looked at before and you can for example if I turn off all the confirmed those will be removed from the so you don't see them if you want or if you you know you can basically restrict if the only things you've confirmed the only things that that you have enough are on and other bits and pieces now that's in the next section obviously if you do pick a film for example will have this one for example then you can create booking here now when you create booking the next part of the section the create booking section that's that's taking a lot of years to develop Mozilla IP and I'm not going to be showing you that in this video but to access that section you will have to sign a nondisclosure disclosure agreement with digital but it is a very similar tool set as you can see here that gives you a visualization of what you've booked who you've booked it with and does all the things it does a very nice thing which is I use all the time it basically calculates out your commitment so obviously if you've booked certain films at certain dates and you've got to come in to play them so many times a common problem is that you might run into an issue where you've ever committed your screen you can't actually fit the the films on that you've actually wanting to get this will automatically calculate that out for you so if you're going to apply for a film you can see if it's going to over commit or not and it also is very useful for so you can visually see what you have ordered when you need to play it how many times you need to play it and also keeps track of all the negotiations between you and the distributors and does lots of nice little things like generates posters and little tables to easily figure out what the policy and in that and all those sort of things are in your emails and keeps track of ending the thread in your emails it's it's very nicely and r44 really speeding up the negotiation of with your distributors but especially if you have to calculate when you're getting films and what the commitments are and have your overcommitted and everything you don't have to calculate that in your head anymore try and get your spreadsheets out a lot of people get Excel spreadsheets to try and calculate that that out is quite difficult and usually very prone to error this will do that all for you making it very easy so you don't have to do any of that you just look at it it really saves so much more time when I who was finished it really saved me a lot of time when figuring out when to book films and what I had left and especially when I do get a full slate and trying to fit in you know and go back to the studio so I can only fit it in this match my stated Ally has these holes left on it and it'll calculate that out for you it's very useful for that so that's pretty much the tools that are opening coming to you today so you've got the release tools and for people who want to sign the NDA you can actually get access to the booking tool the booking off booking special offer tool as well and now this is only the start of course some other things are coming early next year one of the things I wanted to bring to mark and I'm hoping to actually let's go to the back actually I'll show you show you that now one of the things that saves me so much time this is actually part of the backend system for running the cinemas and one of the tools you know this is called KDM now I have not adjusted akkadian for over three years this system has been looking after all my three sites plus another seven sites I think and they haven't ingested akkadian for all that time as well it just all happens automatically in the background and you can see here in the table above Kay diems coming in the locations are going to and when they were ingested or not and the time that they were ingested now just to give you an example of exactly how well that works let me just quickly show you a part now typically what happens when a keg in comes in you'll see it in your email box see this window here you'll see Kay diems coming in and straight after bang bang bang bang bang they go straight into the servers the system here what it does is that as soon as a KDM comes in and gets into an e-mail this system picks up that email finds out where it needs to go and pushes it directly into the servers pretty much instantaneously this has been very useful for example if there's been an error in KD M's and you have to call up for an emergency KDM having to ingest it by hand can take you considerable amount of time all you really know is that once that email arrives and ends in your mailbox it's within 30 seconds it's already in the server ready to clear the content for play so that's very useful saves a lot of time not having to deal with Kay diems anymore and the system really what it does is it part of the solution and you'll see here for example and the targets you just have a look at one of the targets you actually configure if because a lot of the sites aren't on all the time so the system deals with this Akkadian but it can be told if the kalium doesn't get in just didn't in 12 hours send a message of an error so really the only time you'll they'll get an indication that there is a problem is when there is a problem otherwise if you don't get any warnings you know everything is working obviously that is a cost you know the amount of time that saves is incredible because you're not actually doing anything unless there is a problem and so the system's really much too revolves around doing that and I'm hoping to bring the same feature set to the small cinema owners of Australia as well in the in the coming year I'll be doing some coding on that over Christmas and and so I'm really excited about that tool because I'm excited because it saves so much time for me and I'm excited to bring that saving to you guys now following on from that the tool that will likely come after that one is the automatic poster solutions we've already developed some automatic poster solutions for our cinemas we're looking at refining it and making it more automated and expanding its capability and in that as I that is developed by digital it's being developed in mind to allow also other small cinemas to jump onboard and utilize the tool as well so that's going to be very helpful it'll do posters and trailers basically how it how it runs is that based on what you have booked in the booking system the poster system will automatically start playing the posters were on basically on what you so once something is approved or confirmed bang it's on your posters automatically you do nothing that's the sort of cost saving and time-saving tool sets we want to bring to the market to really help the small cinema owners improve how they offer and advertise and given more time to do help with giving a better result for their communities because it's difficult for small cinema owners and we want to make it better especially because that'll lift the cultural cinema and help us you know bring it forward anyway that's the video for today I hope you are interested and you know I hope I get you know a few people involved for these projects because it does help us in finding bugs and other issues when you do utilize our tools and I'm really hoping that it really helps with Australian cinema community and yes let's long live Australian cinema and I'll talk to you later this is James Gardner for schoo bye for now
