some animals do go above and beyond the call of duty sometimes putting themselves in harm's way these 10 unbelievable animals that saved other animals did just that marking them as special creatures scene of another amazing animal rescue that was performed by another helpful animal this time the Saviour was an orangutan who decided to help save a duckling that found itself in danger of drowning the duckling was a Moorhen or swamp chicken that was too young to swim on its own the orangutan notices the chicks struggling to escape its predicament heading on over to offer it some food right off the bat from there the orangutan eventually notices that the chick isn't just hungry but that it's also in serious trouble wasting no time the orangutan drops its food and scoops the chick gingerly out of the water placing it on dry ground before making sure it's okay the orangutan then blows on the chick seemingly in an attempt to dry its feathers watching over it until it's able to recover and walk around on its own it's clear that the orangutan meant the chick no harm at all during the rescue and that the chicks safety was its number-one concern the orangutan in question was already a father at the time with a child of his own and it seems that his paternal instincts kicked in just in time to save the Chicks life number 9 Rottweiler & Chihuahua when a coyote snatched up a chihuahua that it happened to cross everyone was sure that the Chihuahua wasn't going to make it it was unable to defend itself and the coyote was much larger than the dog it attacked fortunately for the Chihuahua a Rottweiler saw the coyote attacked the smaller dog leaping into action to help save his buddy the coyote had the Chihuahua in its jaws and was dragging it away when the Rottweiler attacked chasing the coyote off and forcing it to drop the other pooch number eight monkey and monkey when one monkey electrocuted itself after falling onto a set of train tracks another monkey refused to let it die and instead jumped in to help rescue its friend the second monkey picked the first one up and began performing what can only be described as basic CPR on the first fighting it hitting it then dunking it into water to try to revive it as onlookers watched in amazement eventually the second monkey did succeed in reviving the first and the two ran off together leaving commuters in absolute shock about what had just happened many people say that the first monkey never would have survived if the second hadn't jumped to its aid which makes for a pretty remarkable story to be sure number seven donkey and sheep when Donny the donkey and Stanley the Sheep met up with an angry pit bull Stanley ended up being targeted the dog was busy trying to subdue Stanley when dotty noticed the commotion and sprinted on over to help smashing into the pit bull and pinning it to the ground long enough to allow the Sheep to escape the dog tried to escape before being pummeled but wasn't fast enough to escape Donny who really did a number on the dog leaving it in so much pain that it was forced to flee leaving Stanley behind the sheep was bruised but ok and things would have gone very differently if Donny wasn't around to help number 6 dolphin and whale dolphins have been known to save the lives of people who find themselves in trouble but there aren't many accounts that tell of dolphins saving the lives of whales as well when two whales found themselves Beach with no hope of getting back to safety rescue workers were sure that they were going to have to put them down to help put them out of their misery the whales had repeatedly beached themselves again and again after being freed because they were so disoriented that they didn't know how to get back to deeper water that's when a local dolphin named moco showed up to help guide the whales to a spot that was deeper allowing them to get to safety the dolphin led the whales over 200 yards to a channel that led to the open ocean sticking with them the entire time to make sure they didn't get disoriented any further number five lion and calf when a baby calf ended up being separated from its mother it began to panic accidentally running straight into the path of a hungry lion instead of eating the calf however the lion took pity on it and didn't waste any time immediately trying to protect it from other lions that weren't so caring when another line arrived on the scene the first lion leaps into action fiercely protecting the calf while doing its best to send the rival lion packing some people have claimed that the first lion was simply protecting a meal that it was saving for later but many others have suggested that the two formed an unlikely bond that led to the lion treating the calf as her own feel free to weigh in by leaving a comment below explaining why the lion ignored its instincts and put itself in harm's way to help out a baby that usually would have ended up being prey in any other situation number 4 humpback whales and seals humpback whales and seals live in many of the same environments and their paths cross in the wild all the time even so humpback whales don't usually make a habit of saving seals especially if it means putting themselves in harm's way to do so one particular humpback seems to have missed that memo and swam over to help out a seal that had found itself surrounded by hungry killer whales intent on turning it into a meal one Orca had just managed to knock the seal off its piece of ice and into the water and it looked like the seal was done for until two humpbacks appeared a wave knocked the seal onto the chest of one of the humpbacks which was swimming upside down at the time from there the humpback whale seems to push its chest out of the water even more keeping the seal well out of the way of the hunting orcas there were a few times when the seal looked like it was about to fall off the whales chest but each time the humpback used its flippers to steady the seal preventing it from falling back into the ocean eventually the seal is able to make its way onto another ice floe and back to safety their job done the two humpbacks then swam off content that they did their part to save the seals life number 3 bird and baboon leopards routinely hunt and kill baboons in the wild although they aren't technically their primary food source any predator poses a real threat to other animals in the area and that's what makes this story so amazing a leopard had just finished killing a baboon by dispatching it with one heavy blow but some additional movement caused it to pause for a second or two that's when a baby baboon only a day or two old can be seen crawling out from under its dead mother instead of killing the baby without much thought the leopard instead reacts like a parent and begins affectionately caring for the baby baboon a pack of hyenas attracted by the fresh kill then sauntered over to see what all the fuss was about the leopard wastes no time in carrying the baby up into a tree to help protect it from the pack of hyenas the two stayed up there until the danger had passed and a leopard spent the entire night caring for the baby baboon the baby fell out of the tree a few times but each time the leopard hopped down picked it up and brought it back to the safety of the tree unfortunately the baby baboon didn't make it through the night but the leopard did do everything it could to try to keep it alive just a little while longer number two bear and Crow bears aren't usually known to be overly carrying creatures although some individuals do end up surprising us from time to time that's exactly what happened at the Budapest zoo when a crow found itself in trouble and had to be saved by a bear being kept at the zoo it seems that crows had been slowly taking over the zoo stealing the food of other animals and causing problems for zookeepers that being the case there were plenty of them to be found at the zoo and many animals had started to get used to their presence one crow found itself in serious trouble when it accidentally fell into a pond in the Bears enclosure it looked like all hope was lost and that the bird was definitely going to drown until the bear sidled over and scooped the bird out of the water it then gently put the bird on the ground and watched intently as it slowly came to and realized it had been saved the bird took some time to get its bearings again with the bear watching it the entire time some onlookers have suggested that they intended to eat the bird but later changed its mind although we're happy to believe that it just wanted to pull off a random act of kindness for the day The Crow has even remembered its interaction and zoo officials say that the pair are now good friends with the crow regularly returning to the Bears enclosure to say hi every once in a while number one hippo and wildebeest when water is scarce in the wild many different types of animals are forced to compete for space at the local watering hole this is a dangerous prospect for all sorts of animals who find themselves up against vicious predators who are more than happy to turn them into a meal that almost happened to a wildebeest that accidentally crossed paths with a hungry croc looking for a snack in Kruger National Park in South Africa the wildebeest and Crocs spent almost 10 minutes battling it out and at that point it looked like the croc had the wildebeest beat the wildebeest was obviously running out of steam and the croc was about to finish it off when a group of hippos showed up out of nowhere forcing themselves into the middle of the fight they focused right in on the crocodile causing it to panic for a brief moment that moment was all the wildebeest needed in order to free itself immediately running off to safety unfortunately it did seem like it suffered a broken leg during its struggle which means that it's probably a goner sooner rather than later but at least it was given a second chance by the hippos who effectively managed to scare the croc away just in time and that's 10 unbelievable animals that saved other animals if you
