[Music] hi everyone my name's frank and i'm the user advocate for arts man and welcome to our quick start series in this video we'll be working through the process of creating a new patron in theater manager alright let's get started in this scenario we have a walk up at the box office a mr gin nepay who's interested in buying some tickets for an upcoming performance after an initial search we confirm that mr nepae is not in the database searching before creating a new record helps keep duplicate patrons to a minimum and is a recommended best practice to add our patron we'll click the new button from the contact list window this opens an empty record ready to insert mr nepae's information let's pause here for a moment to talk about mandatory data these are fields that require information before saving the record this gives organizations control over their data increasing or decreasing collection of contact information as they see fit in our example we'll be using the system defaults okay back to the new ticket buyer we enter mr nepae's first and last name followed by his full address including zip code and lastly we'll enter his mobile phone we've now successfully entered all of mr nepae's contact information our organization requires so let's save the patron record pro tip when adding a record anywhere in theater manager if we do not want to continue inserting we can click the cancel button this stops the record from being added to the database and closes the window okay time to recap first search for the patron in our database so we ensure we're not duplicating an existing record second from the contact list window click the new button in the toolbar third enter the appropriate data into the patron record including our organization's mandatory fields and finally click the save button and that's it we hope you've enjoyed this video from all of us here at arts man thanks for watching
