its lights on is an accomplice and this guy's gonna come up and the first guys gonna come out and he's just gonna reach out and sucker punch their intended victim while his buddy goes around the back side now they're gonna go grab his phone get it away from him and run off thankfully he wasn't hurt any worse though he's angry and this one ends right here scary stuff entirely and might have been awareness is such an important part of your self-protection let's begin by thinking about the dangers of transitional spaces here a transitional space is any place that allows attackers to pretty on their victims with an element of surprise and allows for easy escape and this area any sidewalk especially when there's cars out like this meets the definition of a transitional space because it's a place where people are coming and going and you see these guys are able to hide behind the truck and prey on their victim with an element of surprise then allows them because there is a car nearby streets there the ability to get away when you are in a transitional space and a sidewalk a place where you park cars is a transitional space you have to be more aware of your world because attacks can happen in spaces like that with more frequency and this is why awareness is so important you see this guy who's been hiding behind a car pop out here and if you're in an aware state you just see what's going on in your world and this guy hasn't been walking from across the street he hasn't been walking down the sidewalk or whatever he just suddenly pops up with some and a little bit of energy from behind a car you can reasonably say that's not right something's not quite right here and begin to take actions to manage that unknown contact as Craig Douglas would say or see what's going on in that world that you can then take actions to protect yourself now this guy doesn't and because of that the sucker punch comes because he allows that guy to get that close now if at all possible guy pops out like that shows those kinds of pre attack indicators don't let him get with enhanced distance of you like that don't let him get within a place where a contact tool like a knife or his bare hands he can get ahold of you and certainly don't allow him to do that with you having your hands down you may be the world's fastest ninja but you are not going to be the sucker punch with your hands down at your sides like this so awareness is an important key to your self-defense now he pops that guy now it gets a little bit of emotional fitness and is able to get in there but notice the second guy comes in and multiple attackers for every attacker that you have to face the difficulty of defending yourself goes up by something like an order of magnitude it's about ten times it's hard to defend yourself against two people who really want to hurt you as it is against one person another ten times harder against a third person so you got to recognize that your self-defense you're empty handed skills needs to be at a high level to protect yourself against multiple attackers like this man faces here now they grab his phone just one thing that I want you to think about here is keeping your valuables in an exposed place I don't recommend that you recognize that for most of us our mobile phone is something that is worth anywhere from five or six hundred dollars to now up over twelve to fifteen hundred dollars and if your phone is worth a lot of money don't just sit there with it in your hand put it in your pocket use some Bluetooth headphones if you need to just one please when you're walking down the road or whatever but flashing your phone says to people here's something that's highly valuable that you can steal from me and that makes you a more enticing target just something for us to be aware of now thankfully they didn't want to hurt him anymore and they run off but notice the third accomplice back at the car who could have been a trailing accomplice to come and help them in that moment as well so when you're facing any number of attackers always recognize there's a plus-one who might be there as well so you got to stay aware even winning middle of the attack for that plus one so let's learn some lessons here about transitional spaces about awareness about empty handed skills about keeping our valuables out of sight to cover our ass [Music] [Music]
