Save signature service credit card
hey i'm adam jusko and this is strictly credit cards where we talk about strictly credit cards subscribe why don't you in this video i'm going to review the amazon visa card specifically there is the amazon rewards visa and the amazon prime rewards visa essentially they are the same card except if you are an amazon prime member you are going to get a little bit more on the rewards front in particular more on rewards on your amazon and whole foods purchases both of these credit cards are issued by chase and both of them are no annual fee cards now just to be clear here we are only talking about the amazon rewards visa and the amazon prime rewards visa there also is another amazon store card that is used mostly for financing on larger purchases that is issued by synchrony bank that's a different card that we're not going to talk about in this video so let's start with the amazon rewards visa that does not require the paid amazon prime membership so a no annual fee card that gives you rewards using the following formula you're getting three points per dollar or a three percent reward on your purchases at amazon and at the amazon owned whole foods you're getting two points per dollar or a two percent reward on purchases at restaurants at gas stations and at drug stores anything else that you purchase with the card is gonna give you one point per dollar or a one percent reward now that three percent on amazon and at whole foods pretty nice for a no annual fee card not necessarily something that you can replicate otherwise in the market the two percent at restaurants gas stations drug stores that's okay but you could find other cards on the market that would give you the same or perhaps better in those categories as well so that part doesn't excite me a whole lot and then obviously the one percent and everything else is pretty industry standard so in most cases the points that you earn on this card are going to be worth a penny a point you can use them toward your future amazon purchases you can also use them for things like cash back gift cards travel that sort of thing but my guess is that the majority of people that get this card use them at amazon because amazon makes it so easy to redeem them when you make purchases purchases at amazon there's no minimum in order to redeem so when you actually go to checkout amazon.com you're going to see your card there it's going to show you how many points you have that could be redeemed so you know say you're making a purchase that is 30 bucks or whatever and you've got 1500 points already from this card well then you know you could get 15 off that purchase and you could just immediately immediately use it you don't have to wait until you get to you know 25 bucks or 50 bucks or anything like that in order to redeem so it is very easy to just use those points as you go but you do have the option to use them in other ways now as a new card holder to the amazon rewards visa once you are approved you're going to get a bonus of a 50 amazon gift card so that gift card is going to be loaded into your amazon account as soon as you're approved for the card you don't have to spend anything first there's no hoops to jump through or hurdles to get over however that's still sort of a paltry bonus when you compare it to other credit cards on the market so it's nice that you don't have to work for it at all but you could easily get 150 to 200 bucks from other no annual fee cards including other cards that chase issues usually those cards are going to require you to spend 500 bucks in some cases up to a thousand in the first three months of having the card but for most people if you're gonna get the new card you probably figure you're going to spend that much and that you will earn that bonus so this bonus is okay they probably figured that most people if they're getting this card are doing so because they use amazon a lot already and so they don't really have to offer that big of a bonus to make them happy now if we look at the amazon prime rewards visa you get a little bit more you get five points per dollar or a five percent reward on your amazon.com and whole foods purchases the other stuff is the same though in terms of two points per dollar on restaurants gas stations drugstore purchases one point per dollar everywhere else now you do get a little bit better of a bonus as well but still it's 70 bucks versus the 50 bucks on the amazon rewards visa so a little bit more but it's still not like you know a great bonus when you compare it to other bonuses out there on the market now if you don't already know amazon prime is sort of a package of services from amazon that you pay a single price for in order to get everything within that bundle so for 119 per year or 12.99 per month and there are some other packages as well what you get is free faster delivery on your amazon purchases you get access to amazon video which is you know a lot of free movies amazon music access to a lot of free streaming music and there are a lot of other things amazon discounts that come along with it and i would also say that the amazon prime visa is almost like one of the perks of being an amazon prime customer because of the fact that getting that five percent back on your amazon purchases can only come through this card so really if you were an amazon prime customer and you were paying for an amazon prime uh membership it wouldn't really make sense to not get this card because you're just missing out on the fact that you could get a five percent reward on all those amazon purchases that you're making and you obviously are making a good number of them otherwise you probably would not be an amazon prime member to begin with so it's sort of a no-brainer to get this card if you're an amazon prime member doesn't have any extra annual fee so i don't really know why you wouldn't do it all right and then a few notes about some things that are true of both cards both the amazon rewards visa or the prime rewards visa number one they are potentially instant approval meaning that you could apply and be approved in 15 seconds they say and if so i believe you can start using the card immediately before you even physically have it in your hand so not everyone is going to get instantly approved but you could be now this card either card are visa signature cards so visa signature is actually a thing in terms of giving you some extra benefits that visa signature means that visa is giving you things like in this case some baggage delay or baggage loss insurances there's some secondary auto rental coverage extension of manufacturers warranties by a year and there are some other things as well now some of these things are sort of better than others a lot of people will never even use these things and will forget that they even have them but if you're sort of relying on the car rental coverage or anything of that nature make sure that you read the fine print because it definitely doesn't cover everything i tend to look at this card and see these extra benefits and think that that lost baggage or delayed baggage are probably the sort of two best benefits that i could see a lot of people using if they were aware of them the uh extended warranty is nice as well the interest rate range on the amazon visa cards anywhere from two four 14.24 to twenty two point two four percent meaning that they look at your credit history and decide what interest rate they're going to give you based on how good or bad your credit history is fourteen point two four percent not a bad interest rate in today's environment 22.24 pretty high getting over 20 is not particularly desirable now you should be paying off your complete credit card balance every month and if you do you will never pay interest so that won't come into play but if you ever carry a balance you'd much rather it be at the 14.24 end then at the 22 end both of these cards have no foreign transaction fees meaning if you use them outside of the united states you're not going to get charged anything extra this is a pretty nice feature for a no annual fee card many of them will charge you an extra three percent on purchases that you make outside of the us so if you travel abroad and you use this amazon car you're not gonna get charged anything extra a lot of other cards will charge you extra so overall when i look at both of these cards if you are a regular amazon shopper one of them is probably going to be attractive to you for the amazon reward in particular the three percent if you are not an amazon prime customer or the five percent if you are the other rewards not as great if you're someone that just wants one card you don't want to juggle cards it's at least nice to get two percent on your restaurant and gas and drugstore purchases but you're just gonna get one percent everywhere else if you're like me and you were willing to juggle multiple cards you could do better than two percent in those categories and also find you know three or four percent categories with other no annual fee cards potentially so depends on how much running around you want to do i guess or how many credit cards you want to hold but it's really that three percent or five percent at amazon or whole foods that is the selling point of this card i think for most people like i said if you're an amazon prime member it almost seems like a no-brainer that you should get this card that's it comments questions suggestions put them in that comments box below and i'll do my best to answer them otherwise i thank you for watching please subscribe and we'll see you soon
