in the morning when i rise [Music] jesus jesus jesus yeah my king [Music] jesus [Music] jesus that's my cue [Music] god bless you brothers and sisters welcome to this sunday teaching the fifth sunday in the month of january 2021. get your bible let's get right into the word of god turn with me to colossians chapter 3 and verse 1. colossians chapter 3 verse 1. we are believing god that all of you are experiencing the victory that comes in jesus christ and that you are demonstrating through christ that you are more than a conqueror and that the lord jesus christ is always causing you to triumph we're going through and we're going to come out on the other side with our hands lifted up colossians chapter 3 go with me if you will to verse 1. colossians chapter 3 and verse 1. colossians chapter 3. i hope you'll follow along in the bible colossians chapter 3 verse 1. it reads like this if ye then be risen with christ seek those things which are above where christ sitteth on the right hand of god set your affection on things above not on things on the earth for ye are dead and your life is hid with christ in god when christ who is our life shall appear then shall we also appear with him in glory i want to talk to you today from the subject get heaven on your mind get heaven on your mind again get heaven that's why i'm saying get heaven on your mind now the scripture says a few things here that holy spirit wants me to highlight out of this text that i just read to you here are the three things number one if you are saved you should be seeking things that are above if you're saved you should be seeking things that are above where christ sitteth on the right hand of god so where is christ sitting now he's in heaven seated at the right hand of the father that's where he is he's in heaven number two this scripture says that we should set our affection on things above and not on things that are on the earth number two set your affection on things above not on things that are on the earth and number three this text says that we actually died with christ and therefore we should be dead to the world we died with christ and we should be dead to the world now listen to these same scriptures from the living translation if you have a living bible or you can get to your living section on your ipad or whatever flip there real quick go there real quick but if you don't listen to this real carefully same scriptures from the living translation 3 and 1 says since you became alive again so to speak when christ also arose from the dead now set your sights on the rich treasures and joys of heaven set your sights on the rich treasures and joys of heaven where he sits beside god in the place of honor and power listen to verse three live in translation let heaven feel your thoughts let heaven feel your thoughts don't spend your time worrying about things down here got to read verse 2 again let heaven feel your thoughts don't spend your time worrying about things down here verse 3 says from the living translation you should have as little desire for this world as a dead person does you should have as little desire for this world as a dead person does your real life is in heaven with christ and with god living bible says the same three principles set your sights on the rich treasures and joys of heaven set your sights on the rich treasures and jaws of heaven number two it says let heaven feel your thoughts let heaven feel your thoughts get heaven on your mind when you're talking about thoughts don't desire number three don't desire the world because your real life is not here in this world your real life is in heaven so we need to get heaven on our minds we need to get heaven as our goal heaven needs to be our goal what we're working for what we're striving for what we're seeking what we're looking forward to don't desire the world let heaven be your goal not things on the earth not things on the earth now i'm a preacher and as a preacher i can talk about preachers and as i'm talking i'm not just talking about other preachers i'm also talking about myself but one problem the modern day church has is that preachers have stopped preaching about heaven preachers don't preach about heaven anymore we just preach about earth the earth things we can get while we're here in the world accumulating uh worldly prosperity and i've been guilty of this too the lord has corrected me because most of the time the only time you hear anything about heaven is when somebody dies and you go to a funeral and the funny thing about it is now everybody goes to heaven everybody doesn't make any difference what the lifestyle was everybody now goes to heaven it it it's it's as if though all the person has to do now to go to heaven is die if they just die they are automatically just like that in heaven they a lot of people live like hell but they die and they off to heaven just like that and preachers don't preach messages like this even about heaven because they're afraid of losing crowds and that is true they're afraid of losing a little crowd to have so they won't tell the truth and so we have saints who no longer have heaven as their goal their goal now is earth and what they can do and have and who they can be right here in the earth taking taken total taking heaven totally out of their mind just the earth and the only time you hear about heaven is when somebody dies and then somebody puts them in heaven puts them in heaven so now here's here's the fallout from that as a result of preaching not being anymore about heaven you know faith come by hearing as a result of this there's not much difference between the lifestyle and behavior of christians and non-christians i'm i'ma say it again there's not much difference between the behavior and lifestyle of a christian and a non-christian see because it's like now no people don't have anything to work towards nothing to strive towards nothing to look forward to just earth and now they've made it so all you have to do is die and you go to heaven and that's a lie and so people now have their affections on the earth instead of heaven they have affections on earth and still in heaven they they have their minds on this little short period of time called life on earth and listen to this and have no concern about eternity because now everybody dies and everybody goes to heaven that's in people's minds and they say things like you know people die rest in peace let me tell you something if you're not in heaven you're not resting in peace and they say rih rest in heaven let me tell you something everybody dies not going to heaven preachers won't preach this in them that's why people have no more faith for heaven they just have faith for things in the earth and so therefore people have set their affections on things in the earth instead of instead of having that and that their sight set on heaven let me tell you what life is like i have a little illustration here i hope you can see it i have a bucket here i'm gonna show you what your life is like i'm going to show you what your life is this is a bucket and right here i have some water now what i'm going to try to do to illustrate what your life is like here on earth i'm going to try to put one drop of water in this bucket just one drop i'm just gonna put one drop there it is i put one drop of water in this bucket now that one drop of water stands to represent your life on earth that one drop of water stands to represent your life here on earth that's what it stands to represent you may not be able to see it but you can hardly see it now the rest of the space in this bucket represents eternity eternity so what i'm trying to get you to see is your life here on earth is just a drop in the bucket as it relates to eternity because eternity is not time you in time now eternity is just on and on and on and on and on with with no stop so your life here on earth is like that one little drop of water and eternity is like the rest of the bucket you're going to be in eternity forever and ever and ever and you only hear on this planet for what seems like to be a drop in this bucket the rest of the rest of this bucket is eternity i want you to see it and you can't see the water because it's so small see your lifespan here on earth i don't care if you get to live a long time your lifespan here on the earth is a short period it's short i won't use the word time it's just short and so therefore because we've lost sight of eternity and lost sight of heaven the church has become lukewarm see because we're not striving we're not having our goal to make heaven heaven our eternal home so we have lost heaven in our view and so therefore the church is just lukewarm doing everything the world does because now it's believed that everybody goes to heaven watch this regardless of what you do regardless of your lifestyle that's why people believe everybody is going to heaven in the house but see when we came up you know it was a long time ago but when he came up in church you heard about heaven regularly because see because people of my view they didn't have a lot of things they didn't have a lot of things they have a lot of fancy cars a lot of fancy clothes a lot of fancy homes and so therefore they look forward to heaven they look forward to going to heaven when this life is over you know they even saying songs like you know if you live right heaven belongs to you if you treat your neighbor right heaven belongs you some glad morning when this life is over i'll fly away to a home on god's celestial shore i'll fly away see so so so there was there was a difference in outlook and therefore there was a difference in behavior because everybody was trying to make heaven their home uh but now it's not much difference between the lifestyle of a christian and a non-christian we've lost sight of heaven and and and everything in this short period of time called life is very short compared to eternity uh and so therefore god says i want you to know i'm concerned about your life but i want you to also be concerned about your eternity so he says something like this he tells he said i'll be good to you during your life 23rd psalm says if the law is your shepherd he says he said goodness and mercy we'll follow you all the days of your life all the days of your life but then he says i'll dwell in the house of the lord listen this word forever so god promises you i'll be good to you all the days of your life but you dwell in the house of the lord forever during the days of your life and on earth he says i'll be good to you but then keep in mind you're really going to not dwell here forever you're not going to dwell here forever you're going to dwell in the house of the lord forever if the lord is your shepherd see if you're saved show enough for real this life is real short that's why the bible says in james chapter 4 verse 14 what is your life e it is even a vapor that'll appear for a little time and then vanish it for away so that's why we got to understand that see you got to get back now to putting your view on heavenly things and making heaven your eternal home because god's grace isn't greasy it's not you're not going to just slide into heaven and claim the grace of god see you can't just believe you're going to heaven in high you can't have lived like hell on earth and think you're just going to slide into heaven on greasy grace i'm going to tell you it's not happening and see that's why we got to really listen to some things we've been singing because grace is amazing but this listen to what the song says amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a rich like me i used to be a wretch listen this i once was lost but but but check out now but now i'm found listen this i was blind but now guess what i see and because i see because i can see now i i'm not asking i'm not acting and living like a lost person because i'm i can see now i'm no longer a rich undone now god's amazing grace is what saved me it's what saved me see but see you got to understand you know god doesn't want us to live like the world he didn't save you to live like the world and so why are you preaching this pastor lost and i'm preaching this because the church has got to get ready see we got to get ready for real see covert is going around here killing folk people are dying who never die before i said i said i'm gonna say it again people are dying who have never died before rich po young old this thing is becoming a it's becoming a equalizer see people are dying and and and disproportionately people of our hue have died and so therefore you could be here in this present life one minute and guess what be in eternity the next see and so for those of us in the church it even goes further because we're looking and believing god that he's gonna come and get the church so you could be in the grocery store one minute and be an eternity to the next or even left behind you know you could be driving down the highway one minute and then just like that quicker than quick you could be in eternity just that fast just that fast see so so it's not a time to live like you are a believer like you really live and so that's why so the lord sending these messages trying to help the church to get right and they should sing a song and say church let's get right and go home because sooner or later we may be going home because this is not your eternal home and you can't just go to heaven anyhow everybody's not going you know particularly all these celebrities die and you know people get people start talking about they are going with god now they're in they're in heaven in heaven never acknowledge god on earth never live like a christian live like heathens but no they're resting with jesus there with jesus never with jesus on earth never said a word about him but now they're with jesus come on now you you're not that thick you know nobody's just going to heaven anyhow well pastor lawson what it sounds like to me is that you are judging sound like you're judging no it sounds like you are the one judging if you have put them in heaven you just put them in heaven with no corresponding lifestyle no corresponding evidence you put them in heaven i say you're the one judging not me i'm talking about what the bible says you're the one that judged them and put them in heaven are you hearing me and so now you got you got to spend some time you got to spend some time talking to your children talking to your grandchildren talking to your family members you can't wait to get to the funeral and they put you down to make remarks and you stand up and say oh they're sleeping with jesus they never walk with jesus the bible says there was a man of god that walked with the lord and then he was not because god took him just like that see you got to walk with the lord walk means a lifestyle you got to have a lifestyle see you got to have a lifestyle so you need to start telling people you got to do more than die to go to heaven i'm talking to saints see because i'm talking to saints because he all during the week you're supposed to be taught you're supposed to be talking to sinners you're supposed to be talking to sinners on your job you're supposed to be talking to sinners in your family you're supposed to be talking to your little children who if they're not born again are just little sinners i don't care how much you love them they're gonna have to be born again if you're not born again you can't see the kingdom of god you can't enter into the kingdom of god and when i stop preaching the bible you call me on the phone and tell me but guess what you're not going to call me cause i'm going to preach the bible and i'm not going to get out of it you need to get during the week it's your job to preach your job to preach i'm preaching to the church my job my job is to build the body for the work of ministry see i'm to build this body of believers so you can then go out and do the work of ministry ephesians that's where it's at he gave some apostle prophet advantage pastors teachers for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry for the edifying of the body of christ so i'm edifying you to do the work you need to tell your children your grandchildren your uncles your aunties auntie and them and all them is this you don't need to wait till the fruit to get up and get on the program or they leave a space and make comments you get up and say oh they in resting with jesus how can they rest with jesus if they never walk with jesus wake up it's time to wake up now i'm gonna leave you with one scripture i'm out of time i want you to turn into this from matthew chapter seven and read the whole chapter when you get a chance matthew chapter seven you got work to do church got work to do we got to be telling people jesus is soon to come and we're in the last days we're in perilous times we're in the day of a plague see and in this day you can be up today and down tomorrow somebody you just chatting with could have this plague and blowing their breath on you and you breathing it in and i know i know some of you have already had it and overcome it thank god for jesus thank god for the power of god thank god for the sanctifying blood of jesus christ that kept you we've had several people in our congregation who have tested positive and god brought them through praise god that's word for praise right there so don't you think about i i had it wasn't so bad no don't think you slick your way through god had mercy on you and you ought to give him the glory how do you give god the glory with a lifestyle with a lifestyle give him a life god wants a life are you hearing me i'm gonna give you this one scripture and and we i'm out of time uh here it is matthew chapter seven and read the whole chapter when you get a verse matthew 7 21 it's time to get heaven on your mind now because you could be there in a moment in the twinkling of an eye you could be there just like that some people say well what about the thief in the cross you know maybe you you judge folk and look at the thief in the cross let me tell you something the thief in the cross the thief on the cross didn't have time to live a life he was right there getting ready to die with jesus see so that's not even a good parallel that's not even a good illustration that's not even a good example because you're not a thief and you're not on the cross you in this world the blood is still running warm in your veins and it's time now to live like you're saved i'm talking to the church that's what i'm talking to born again i'm not talking to the world they they are in the world you're not supposed to love the world your mind might not be on things that were unless what's the problem with the prosperity move the prosperity movement put out all our affections on things and i i'm a preacher of prosperity the bible says he wants you to prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers i give you a bible definition of prosperity it's not causing your driveway it is it is knowing that you can move forward in spite of opposition in spite of the devil you can still move forward that's prosperous that's bible prosperity but we got our minds set on things on little groups little cliques and all that we're not you're not even supposed to have your affection on things in the earth your mind supposed to be on heaven i'm trying to live to make heaven my home are you hearing me here's the scripture it says this matthew chapter seven and you let me tell you what to do you do whatever you want to do with this scripture but i'm gonna tell you what it's gonna say when you finish extra genetic and human nuts and homogeneous homolytics and all that stuff they do i'm a i'm a seminary dropout so i'm telling y'all i just read the bible i'ma after you do all the humanetics and homolytics and extra jesus and all that kind of stuff you know what you know what the first scripture is going to say exactly what it says and you can't exegete the truth out of it because it's right there in plain black and white in this in the words of it's red and white jesus jesus says matthew 7 21 read up some read down some put it in context i'm out of time it says not everyone that saith unto me lord lord shall enter into listen it's the kingdom of heaven everybody just says lord all you gotta do now say oh jesus you're lord of my life jesus is lord of my life i'm saved jesus lord in my life jesus all of my life but then you don't live a life like he's the lord lord i mean master ruler owner that's what the word lord means if he's lord he's your master your ruler your owner he tells you what to do how to do it when to do it here's your listen what the disciples call him he is your master he's your master he says not everyone said to me lord lawler into the kingdom of heaven but he that doeth the will of the father the text says in the living bible here's what it says i'm back at colossae now i'm closing since you became alive again so to speak when christ arose from the dead now set your sights on the rich treasures and joys of heaven where he sits beside god in the place of honor and power let heaven feel your thoughts don't spend time worrying about things down here you should have little desire for this world as a dead person your real life is in heaven with god and with christ you better get heaven on your mind because you could you could be out of here just like that and then hurled into eternity and your life is like a drop of water in this bucket the little drop stands for your life the rest of the bucket stands for eternity it's a long it's it's forever and ever and ever and as long as you can say forever it's time to be real or be still it's time to get right with god and do it now get heaven on your mind
