two one okay welcome to a video tape about bladder scanning it's something that you're confidently going to do um as a nurse in our emergency room department of the most common reason we're doing is we're actually looking at the bladder volume for example you're doing a post void residual but you uh there may be some other indications as well so let's just talk about the machine in general this is one of our two ultrasound machines we have in the department but in the future you may looking at a different kind of machine these are made by sonocyte this is our laptop model called the edge we have another larger model called the export k but they're both basically the same though you do your calculations slightly differently both of them have three different probes and as you start doing more ultrasounding as nurses in our department you'll be dealing with three main probes there's two low frequency probes which can see really deep um but they have very poor resolution but they're still a very important probes that you'll use most of the time and so this is your curvilinear probe your phase array probe and then also you'll be using the high frequency probe right here this is a neat little probe it doesn't see very deep only about four centimeters but exquisite detail so you use this for vaginal access any kind of probe used for vascular access on any machine is very high frequency probe today since we're talking about bladder scanning we're going to get stick with a low frequency probe and um and we're gonna be using the curvy linear because that gives us the broadest view which is what we want after turning on the machine you'll pick the probe on this machine by just pushing a button um that's associated with the probe so for example we have these color-coded so this probe goes right here and we have a color-coded blue um this probe color-coded sort of a pukey yellow and then we'll go to this peaky little thing right here you just push the button right here and that'll help you select the probe when the probe goes on the patient for bladder scanning it's going to go right at the base of his abdomen right above the pubic symphysis all right so if you're too high you're not going to see anything if you're off to the right you're not going to see much of anything off the left you're not going to see much of anything but you get right in the middle so the probe is in a is in a transverse position with a probe marker this little thing off to the patient's right your left you're going to see this big rectangular structure and that's his bladder which is very full right now you'll fan the probe which means going sideways with the probe this way so if you can show...
