[Music] aawww teaches English overseas calm hope you're doing absolutely fantastic today so I want to discuss briefly a topic I just got an email made me think about it again for whatever reason people get this in their head that it's illegal to fly with more than ten thousand dollars cash it's not illegal okay and don't just believe me do your research like I always say go out there and look it up for yourself what you'll find is that what the law actually states is that if you have more than ten thousand dollars you have to declare it okay but that's different from it being completely illegal it's not illegal to have cash okay in the United States we have things like the RICO statute that were put in place in order to prevent money laundering and to prevent people from trying to hide money okay I have flown several times with more than ten thousand dollars in cash I always declare it okay for instance one time I flew into JFK I got a bunch of money at one time it's kind of hinges on a different story where they lost a ton of money that I had at the bank in China I'll try to make another video on that but basically I freaked out and I took it all in cash I didn't have enough time to wire it back it was kind of risky probably pretty stupid because you know could have been usually at the bank you get good notes but you know there's always a risk that you walk away in some of your notes or counterfeit or whatever so anyway I flew back to the US with like 20k on me I had pockets sewn onto the end of the inside of a big pair of jeans that I had 20,000 US but it's not as much cash as you think some people think that a million dollars is going to like Phil 17 duffel bags but in hundred-dollar bills it really doesn't so when I got into JFK in New York I filled out the Declaration instead of saying I have nothing to declare I went through the declare line and I handed it over and the guy said all right welcome back to the US okay now is the bank going to have questions for you is you know can you just go and deposit it all at once even getting a money order for more than $3,000 the last time that I tried I had to fill out special paperwork for the IRS okay but here's the thing it's English teaching money it's not crack money okay I've got it declared and it's on my tax return I pay my taxes I pay every freaking dime that I owe okay granted I try to make that number as small of a number as I can but people that have this idea like okay it's inherently super...
