this video is sponsored by skillshare thanks so much for supporting our channel hey everybody it's benny from carmi cosplay and today i wanted to try out if i can make 3d scans from home using only my smartphone yeah i know super weird topic again but hey if you see my face you know things will get pretty technical so what do i need 3d scanning for you might ask and that's a pretty violent question well i think it's super handy to have a 3d model of yourself or a friend especially when making costumes and props like we do i for example often use the 3d model of svetlana when i make and scale all the 3d armor pieces in blender here for example i have a 3d model of swetlana with all the armor pieces on it that i made for her horizon costume and that's just super handy i mean i think it's pretty awesome i can already see exactly how the armor pieces will look like even before i print them out and then you will probably ask if it's really necessary to have a 3d scan just to make all those armor pieces and my answer would be not really it just makes it a million times easier because the problem at least for me when working in programs like blender is i can never really grasp just how large or small the space is that i'm working in like you can rotate your model and scale it and you can even see the real world units but everything around it at least for me is just like my brain most of the day an empty void of nothingness and for me personally just having an abstract number is really hard for size reference because like i'm a visual thinker and i need something real in front of me that i can hold on to and actually see maybe i can explain it like this you see this cube here for example could be really small or really large i have no idea but once i put a scan of my head next to it you can suddenly see that it's actually really big it just puts everything more into perspective you know and with a 3d model like this for reference i can now build stuff around my bulky head and always know exactly how large it will look in the real world i can for example just build myself a really stupid helmet like this at least i know exactly how large it will be for costumes and props i never really need to know the exact measurements anyway i just need to see that it looks right and it has the right proportions and for that a 3d model and 3d scanning is actually super handy but how exactly do i get one of those fancy 3d scans you might ask and again that's a pretty good question usually swedland...
