[Music] hi i'm jonathan here martin lynch and sons and welcome to this week's something for the weekend uh this week i'm with john uh two either he's okay good afternoon and uh this week we're gonna have a look at the range of scanners and communications that do some kind of digital mode yeah that's correct excellent i know i'm not the expert on these i will openly admit that but fortunately john is our resident expert so i'm going to ask him all the questions that i've ever wanted to know john let's start with the unit this is the ubcd 3600 xlt and let's start john why would i go for this over let's say one two five xlt this will decode analog as well and like the one two five does start from 25 megahertz whereas communication receivers then you start from hf so it will decode dmr motorola and digital signals it won't decode d star fusion uh but it will decode dmr okay so it's very much tailored for the commercially used yes digital modes so you say dmr nxdn yes an hdm okay so that's the the unit one uh 3600 but does it still retain the things like close call and those types of features that i'm used to with say the one two five the close call is still with the units of this unit and sort of like uh signature footprint for close call and receiving signals so yes it does perfect let's move along so that was the unido let's move on to the whistler so this is the trx1 john and um what am i getting here over the 3600 for instance well i think you do get a bit more of a rugged unit um still the same platform still goes from 25 megahertz up to gigahertz and once again it still does the same decoding of dmr and various other modes but once again it won't decode d-star or fusion and would i be writing saying john that these actually come pre-programmed yesterday they come pre-programmed once you get them and you go to which the website and you register the unit it gives you option to ban it for european mode abandoned rather than the american banding excellent so moving on to the aor dv 10 john so we're moving uh away from the scanners and more into the communication service and what is that difference the difference is the communication procedures do start from hf and they go right through to the gigahertz range but they also decode ssb am and obviously digital modes like dmr tektra fm and d-star so they are more of a communication receiver so i can i can use this let's say i'm going on holidays um and i want to take a handheld communications receiver with me i could hook this up onto maybe a larger antenna and decode let's say you know 20 meter ssb yes you...
