[Music] thanks so much it's it's great to be here bnh photo mecca for for New York City and for photographers around the world and I'm really pleased to present this material from my new book that I'll talk about you know why I decided to make this book and what this material you know what this material is and how it can help you so let's jump right into it and I'm gonna start with a few photos as a photographer I can't start a presentation without some photos these are all personal with this first set of images are personal images that were shot in black-and-white film I shot a ton of black and white film I always had a camera around my neck pretty much everywhere I went and I shot my entire life and there's you know maybe 60,000 eggs in this collection and many of them never got seen until I started camera scanning them all of these were scanned directly from the original negative that there were photos taken from the original negative the black border we see on the image was created in camera in the same way that we made black borders in darkroom prints and I'll show you exactly how this gets done today and how you can be unbelievably productive in digitizing photo collections whether those are negatives transparencies or prints I have images that have some value from glorious Tar Heel victory back in 1982 Michael Jordan and James Worthy on that team I was on the floor shooting Buckminster Fuller and u2's first tour of the US and then some personal images my grandfather on trips to Denmark and my mother heading to Jamaica on dc3 and in this case scrapbooks that tell story of life and all of this can be done and can be digitized and can be put into a Lightroom collection and can all be brought together and leveraged as one unit what we're going to talk about today are the various different methods of doing this and as you can see from this illustration on the left hand side we have all these source materials which could be books could be prints could be color black and white negatives transparencies and then they all go through the digital camera scanning process and they end up in a Lightroom catalog as a professional photographer for 30 some years I have hundreds of thousands of transparencies I've only begun working on that project you'll see that I've got like my fifty thousand black and whites already done but we'll hit the transparencies next in 2005 I started writing about digital asset management and my first damn book included a section on using a digital camera as a scanner and and so I've been very interested in it I've the first time I got my hands on a digital camera in 1999 I one of the very first things I did was scan some negatives and...
