Send attester validated
hi and welcome back in this video we're going to take the assessment instrument we've just created as a part of the tae a SS 401 tasks and we're going to validate it which is a part of the tae a SS for our three tasks so firstly we're going to look at the folder that says tasks to complete tae a SS 403 if we open that we'll see straight away that there is a validation report example and a validation report template now the examples great for you to have a look at in this particular video we're going to go straight into the template and look at some of the basics you need to be aware of to fill it out correctly so you might recognize this assessment instrument from the last video however we've now filled out this first page and we've made some changes to each of the observations to make them more contextual and to read more sensibly you'll also note that the headings here have been changed and added preparing for instruction conducting instruction etc the reason I did that of course was to make this entire instrument make more sense to the assessor just note here our purpose now is to validate each of these observations and the rest of the actual instrument itself against the requirements of the training product or in this case the unit of competency so on the right here we have our assessment validation the paperwork is broken down into two parts firstly there's the cover sheet and then there's the checklist for information on how to fill out the cover sheet just go to the example but we're going to go straight into the checklist itself and go straight to the questions here now what we need to do is ask these questions go into the individual parts of each of the main questions and apply them to the instrument so let's look at the first one it says the assessment task instructions and assessment conditions are clearly identified were the instructions clear instructions to the candidates Sr are obvious were the assessment conditions clearly identified and their reasonable adjustment parameters included okay so we're looking to go yes yes yes yes here if we do that we can throw yes in here we can scroll down to the next question however if we have a no in here then we have to take it no over here and fill out our recommendations so there's a cover sheet is the observation checklist with an instruction that says to be completed by the Assessor observing the training session and there's the results component where some reasonable adjustment is identified and the result is recorded so to me that doesn't look like there are particularly good instructions what is there is clear yes however they're not particularly obvious as there are no instructions to the Assessor per se it doesn't speak about the assessment conditions anywhere on this document and there are some reference to reasonable adjustment at the end so you may want to tick yes or no in there and have a no in here and your recommendations without going through every single question here it's important to keep a critical eye on all the components of this assessment instrument as if you are somebody who had nothing to do with the creation of the instrument having an arm's length approach like that helps to ensure that you have a more analytical evaluation of the actual instrument itself and there's a better chance of you finding what is and isn't correct with a particular document I'm going to go directly down to the evaluation questions relating to the principles of assessment and the rules of evidence if your instrument meets the principles of assessment and can provide for the rules of evidence then it should overall be a decent instrument I'm not going to go into what valid reliable flexible fair authentic current sufficient mean this was part of your cert 4 and you can readily access that either on the RTO standards or just by googling them however to apply it to this particular instrument I might just have a look at a couple so firstly reliability reliability in an assessment instrument is achieved by having very unambiguous clear concise observations or questions if we're looking at the knowledge test I'll go to one in particular where it says uses interpersonal skills with learners to establish a safe and comfortable learning environment if you were the Assessor how could you be sure that what you observed is interpersonal skills another Assessor would find exactly the same could some clarity be included in this particular observation for example if that is the case you would simply go back to your assessment validation report put no in here no in here and write question seven requires clarification or something to that effect with the rules of evidence generally we're speaking about an assessment instrument that has been trialed and you have evidence of an actual assessment being completed however for the purposes of completing this particular assessment instrument validation we can look as if this particular instrument has the foundations for delivering on these four rules of evidence I might pop down to these three here specifically if this instrument is going to deliver authentic evidence there should be something in here that requires the candidate to sign some sort of declaration of authorship which there is it's also a direct observation therefore the Assessor themselves will be observing the person doing the task you can't get much more authentic than that current is there room on this instrument for dates of course there is and lastly sufficiency now I'm not going to spoil the surprise to this particular instrument but what I will refer you to is to have a look at the performance evidence requirements for this unit of competency you should find that there is a requirement with regards to a number of observations in which case sufficiency in this particular instrument is not clearly indicated at the end of this report you sign and date with the others who have looked at it you're not going to make any modifications at this stage if you're doing the assessment 502 you know which is designed develop assessment tools you would be conducting the modifications as well as a part of your development but for the purposes of the gap assessment that's not necessary so you take no and that's it for the assessment validation of your assessment instrument
