Send different radio

hello guys this is Eric KJ for wise the eye with an interesting video for you good evening listen to this if you can hear it Tana sounds like another digital mode on HF but the cool thing in this video this is going to be probably one of the easiest things you can do on HF to have a little bit of fun this is something that goes way back to the 50s I mean the the analog slow scan TV goes way back not new by any means but by far a very fun thing to do that I hope a lot of people take into at least using it and say you did but if you're bored and you say the band sucked like everybody else says all the bands are horrible well it's 9:30 p.m. and I've gotten about 50 pictures so far received just watching pictures decode on my screen slow scan TV and this is again this is a plug-and-play thing here and the pictures you can see they just keep rolling in so let's talk about slow scan TV and I'll show you where to get the software how to do it real quick I mean literally I downloaded this and didn't set anything up I put in my call sign name I haven't transmitted anything yet and I've done this back in the day I have sent pictures before but it's been a while and I figured this would be something to get you guys active and motivated on some other things other than what people are doing now on ham radio because our hobby is so awesome and us as amateurs are so talented that we can do so many different things on this band or these bands with this hobby that everybody can do what they want and have fun it's just great it really is so enough of the talk let's talk about analog slow scan TV and I wonder what's going to come on in this picture here [Music] hello radio concepts [Music] the place to come for amateur radio videos so the app or the program here is free and I'm going to show you two different ways this is a free software called MMS STV that's multimode slow scan TV there are many different modes for slow scan some like Scotty are used most of the time and different modes decode differently much like digital modes do on HF like ft 8 vs. jt65 vs. PSK 31 it's a different image format that they're sending now you as an operator as long as we have the band privilege you can decode well actually let me back up anybody watching this whether you have it licensed or not if you are in Cambodia or Zimbabwe and you have a shortwave receiver that you can tune in to this frequency like on 20 meters it's 14.2 30 and a way to get that sound from your company radio to your computer you can decode slow scan TV you do not have to be a ham in order to decode and look at these now to transmit you do have to be a ham but if you have banned privileges it's really really simple so I have the way of doing it here on the computer and then I have the wolfy link that I showed you earlier previous videos that will enable me to connect my smartphone my Android tablet or smartphone to my radio even out portable in the field with an interface that will get the audio back and forth so I can transmit and receive and the app on Android that the developer wrote for slow scan TV that will do these modes also so we're going to talk about that for now as I'm going on in my rant here you can see that I have pictures still decoding they're coming in and the way this works is it's a signal it's an analog signal and what it does is it draws line by line now if I can catch the next transmission and get the audio turned up so you can hear it in the beginning there's a header now the header is kind of like on D star infusion or kind of like on some other digital modes where it gives a couple tone Birds DD who need it and it tells the software or the receiving end hey I'm transmitting and scottie to start decoding Scotty - and that's what this program is set to auto it here's what mode it is and it starts decoding that mode now what do we have here oh boy so we're all adults here I just got to cut the video for a viewers sake sometimes from different countries we get pictures that are I mean it's nature you know but anyways for the sake of this video and my name ham radio concepts here sometimes you'd be amazed at what you see some other countries have different standards so you know it doesn't bother me but may bother you so I'm not going to show it anyways so it sends the header out the header says okay I'm going to decode this and starts decoding and as the bits of information come in depending on the colors and the line it's on and you know what's in that block you know if you sent a blank black screen it would sound different than this picture right here based on what it has to inject for not being a scientist or to dumb it down you know different colors and pieces of the puzzle here sound different on the thing but anyway so it draws it line by line and decodes the image and you can see here there's some artifacts and that may be where the band started to fade a little bit you know that's a pretty good image for 9:30 8:00 p.m. on 20 meters and everybody says all the bands are dead I've received probably 40 pictures now already today just today so anyways once it gets to the end it's going to send a finished command or a finished you know bit and then it's going to throw a cwid out because you notice that all these pictures almost all these pictures have a callsign on them and the callsign is basically like any other you know transmission you want to ID yourself so your idea here and the callsign comes after and tells you know hey this is KJ for y zi my station is done sending you know blah blah blah it's kind of like you're broadcasting and whether someone hears or not you don't know I'm gonna email one guy tonight let him know hey I got a bunch of your pictures today and you know this where is he this guy here v1 DBM he'll help be famous after this video he sent a lot of images today and I've got most all of them now here's another one v1 DBM and some of them are you know now you can see here they put a message in here w5b kv v 9 v from v1 DBM so you can send a reply as you see here I was trying to make something here earlier to a station where I can send mine picture it like QSL card you got your own you know these people are probably downloading these from the internet or wherever and sometimes that's what's on their QSL card that you get in the mailbox I believe you know I had a couple of them so you can send that back and that kind of gives him a visual confirmation Wow someone heard it but again remember this guy's this is what's cool about this you can be broadcasting these and there may be a thousand people receiving your picture across the globe that you don't even know and they're just racking these pictures up w2 JKD jim friend of mine you might recognize and recognize him at his harem rodeo concepts he says you know get get easy pal which is another digital progress STV program and he says he turns it on it lets it go during a day goes to work does his thing comes back and he's got hundreds of photos that came in all day long he can just go through and it said wow that's interesting oh look oh my you know it really is it really is fun and and again people that are not theirs you wouldn't believe how many people actually email me and say hey I'm a shortwave listener I've heard your your qsos and you know I've watched on YouTube and they're not hams at all they they just listen so people may be doing this because you know where they're at they don't have internet they don't have TV or they just want to be you know old school whatever you can see some of these pictures here you know again this is a k1 Dax or yeah and he's got a picture of his dog there and you know a little bit of artifacting here from probably other stations that were you know close in frequency or maybe the band was fading and that's what happened but here's a good one now there I wish I had a picture to show you of a really really good one that you know in the in fact I could show you this site here the g0 HWC hope he doesn't mind I stumbled across his site and I was looking at some stuff these are images that he decoded over however many years or when and you can see from all parts of the world you'll have you know stations that send out like a electronic es e QSL card over HS and the quality is pretty good depending on the signal received so pretty interesting stuff again other countries I've gotten some pretty what's the word I'm looking for provocative almost nude or I did get some nude one but that's you know not what it's for but in other countries its nature so you know I enjoy looking at nature at nature's beauty anyways so it brings the mind it's something else to talk about what she shows on here some you know in the future we could talk about digital slow scan TV there's some digital and it picked her it like analog repeaters versus D star repeaters you know you get a lot cleaner sound there's no static it's either all there or break up a little bit so if we look at some of these digital ones you can see it might have been some packets missed here but the pictures are a lot better in quality digital pictures here so that site there I'll put in the link in the description I don't think he'll mind I hope he doesn't but you check out some more information on on here if he's got any for this yeah there's some downloads here and some other stuff anyways we'll go back to and then SS TV here so right now the band's fading away at 1017 p.m. I haven't had any last couple you can see here really didn't decode too well alright but we'll we'll show you here and the only thing I have there's nothing really for setup as far as my radio here I have 7300 my comm 7300 for the USB cable right to my computer no sound card interface needed with the 7300 and in the program when you go to set it up you know you can go to to the receive and set your sound card you don't have to even have a USB interface if you just had a stereo cable from the audio out of the radio to the audio line-in on your computer you can decode so very simple now let me show you what I have for the Android app and decoding on my phone with the SSTV droid app and the way I can do this out portable in the field or even if you don't have you know computer handy and you want to do it with your phone we'll check that out now okay so I have here an old Galaxy s4 with a custom ROM on there but I use this for some ham stuff because it doesn't I don't have sprint but anyways does just as well now the wolfy link I showed you before a little box in the video my go kit it has a cable that adapts from my 3.5 millimeter 4-pole on my smartphone and the cable I have on the other side which happens to fit my 706 and my 7300 is the 13 pin so this is going to go into the back of the radio not using the USB and you can use this with you know depending on the cable you have if you you know what radio and all that okay so I have that plugged in and I have my radio just set to upper sideband and then I plugged the other side into my phone now the app that I bought is about six bucks you know you're supporting the guy that created this it's the droid SS TV app you can see that or I can zoom it in ain't draw it SS TV so when you click that and it's really another plug-and-play type app it's really not that complicated you set it up with your your call sign in there okay and I hear there's a picture being sent now but I can't code it it's really noisy so looking at the app here it shows you your spectral graph here again the received signal level and you want to make sure you're not I'm over driving this just a little bit you can see here on the bottom right it's a I got to adjust the audio settings on the wolfie link turn it down a little bit under receive so it's not over driving it should be read about at the read in the settings here all you'll really need to set up is you know this one's important the screen lock so that keeps it from turning off if you're wanting to leave it sit there for awhile plugged in saying I hear a picture now feminine and also your transmit settings you want to set your callsign in there [Music] now right now I can hear there is a image being sent and I'm not sure if the signals strong enough to decode this but we'll see and the mode is also being automatically detected on the app you can hear this it's barely in there so so these easing looks like MMS s TV because that's a stock image on there and it's having a hard time decoding it but in you know when there's activity like there was earlier you know when there's five six seven eight people in an hour sending pictures I mean you can download quite a bit of them so this one's decoding but all I'm really using is the app the wolfy link in my radio and again you could use whatever radio that will even a shortwave listening or you know a shortwave receiver that will tune to that frequency so I happen to get his callsign just about Victor out the three Quebec Bravo not much of a picture they're a little bit grainy and distorted from the you know conditions but still definitely intelligible I hit transmit and I have a picture that I just put in here of my 7,300 it's going to put my callsign and my app here that I'm using I'm just going to start now you don't hear anything now but you can see it is drawing if i zoom in watch the red line there the red line is coming down as it's drawing you know forty one forty two forty five or six was drawn now on my radio nothing much to look at other than yeah you can see it transmitting there boy I love this radio I have to tell you so I'm a after I send this I may get a response back he may throw my callsign back on the on his image that he sends and that'll give me a confirmation that I did he did actually see mine so we'll let this transmit see what happens so elsewhere in the app now when you go in to transmit here try to hold us you can see it it'll have the case on it's on the bottom you can pick your other pictures you know if you wanted to have some some other images in here your photo album or whatever and it attaches your callsign and you know for ID up here modes here so it looks like Scotty won Scotty - Scotty DX Martin won and Martin - there's no I've seen a couple people ask how come no robot and you know the other modes and I'm not exactly sure not exactly sure why he didn't put those in maybe they're hard to do on an app so the macros here you can set the macros here for qso data and send that you know back really neat and you know there's also ways of doing this not only on 20 meters there's other bands and there's other you know for instance if you've seen in my video about ham radio there was a clip I put in that someone had sent me to use and he was actually decoding slow scan TV off of the International Space Station see this was my clip here that I had used and he was using MMS STV decoding areas kc5 TGT and his videos on youtube you could check him out but he was decoding that on two meters from the International Space Station and on VHF so pretty cool that he was able to decode this image like this from space I've showed this site before on previous videos band plans calm they have quite a bit of detailed band plan information for different modes across the entire band like here on 20 meters you can see 14.2 30 is your slow scan TV then you have you know 14 to 32 14 to 30 3 suggested also your digital slow scan TV is 14 to 33 so you know if we go up here to 40 meters and we look for slow scan TV I think it's down that says seventy dot 14 71 71 yeah 71 71 here would be your slow scan TV and then digital will be 71 73 so you can look the links in the description for the band plans dot-com site where you can look and see maybe you can fire let's try 80 meters I've never done that but I'm curious where it is let's go down to vet ship since 75 meters maybe oh let's see there it is 38 45 sure 80 or 75 meter for slow scan TV so get the idea so I hope this video on slow scan TV gave you a little bit of ambition to try something new and ham radio something that's been around for a while that you'll definitely enjoy and at least try it and it can be had with very minimal setup so thanks for watching make sure you subscribe and leave your comments below because I learn from you guys as well tell me about your endeavors in slow scan TV I would love to hear them and learn from you 7:3 from KJ for y zi
