[Music] so [Music] um filipino application uh i'm here i'm here [Applause] um um hi sir um yes [Music] are here okay um yeah i think everyone you know everyone that i think is supposed to be here is here uh except for maria baby mariah hello this is bergonio um uh i'm supposed to give you first a briefing uh onto a citizenship okay so let me just introduce myself i am vice versa marco lopez i am the um school of the philippine consulate in houston and also um the offending lawyer in the philippine consulate so i handled uh if you have any illegal questions it's usually addressed to me and i'm also in charge of um different visas so everyone who needs to enter the philippines at this time needs to go to me okay so um yeah i i just really tried my briefing by saying the most important part of our democracy law teaching that um citizenship is available only to natural born filipino city fans of lost their nationalities by the naturalization okay so two important things they're number one you are a national born filipino situation the natural born filipino is one [Music] also looking at all the children that you make once you have entered your philippine citizenship will be filipino as well okay so if you give birth to them here in the in if you are a minor child of someone who is taking the phone citizen um if you remember the second page of the application form you uh filled out no it wouldn't happen if you have any minor children the reason for that is in your petition and they can become dual assistant as well without having to sign anything or take over no just put them there at 25.00 you can no longer include them in your presentation and this is only red one for your children who you give birth to while you're already an american citizen um take note that there isn't if you've taken all america you cannot anymore uh transfer your filipino citizenship anyone okay um next point um you have rosters by naturalization in a foreign country okay so the um when you took your cause of allegiance to the u.s you have lost your nationality instantly okay so um the reason for that is the oath of the united states requires you to do um any foreign citizenship if you read your own if you remember your oath of allegiance that you said to the uscis it's actually included in your own no so that's why we're doing this no um we're taking all kicks in order that your filipino citizenship okay um um take okay from this is if you have if you still have a valid cash flow when you ship you're also filing just to the us no um your old valid passport technically becomes invalid after you have to get your own company to the us okay so for the shooting you have a new passport but um you know if you get a new passport you need a passport so if you need to go to the philippines now you can actually go to the philippines simply by representing your dual citizenship papers which you will claim on um on october 20th right and also your us passport so you will you will claim those two documents and then you can you can claim the document together with you as password and you can already go yes my question paul is october 20th will be tuesday nobody could drive me can you do it on saturday um no you know don't need a visa to go to the philippines but uh because of the pandemic no um it is now required for you and nationals to get a visa before they can go to the philippines okay um but uh not all usd can be given a visa no only the following foreigners can be given a visa number one uh spouses filipino nationals number two um finer children of filipino nationals and number three uh parents of minor filipino nationals those are people we can if you are okay so if you are a spouse of international and you want to go to the philippines you need to buy a visa from us by presenting uh the usual requirement for dual citizenship and also you know um also your um uh your your um university document and your marriage certificate or birth certificate original that is one way that you can um uh that is the way you can apply for a visa right now no um if you have any further questions on that you can give us an email okay um next point now is your right and uh privileges as a filipino citizen and i'm happy to tell you that as a dual citizen of the us and the philippines you are a full citizen you know of both countries no you are entitled to all the rights of a filipino or and you have to do all the responsibilities of filipino citizen okay at the same time you have to rest you have to do all the rights of americans of all the rights of an american center and also do all the obligations of an american executive you know all right so part of this noise uh just to make things clear um you can buy any real property in the philippines now however large you want you can invest in any corporation in any industry do any business or practice profession in the philippines as long as you are licensed okay um so um one one important right no i also want to expound is your right to suffrage okay so the right of suffrage entails two things one is the right to vote in the right to be voted for okay with regard to your right to vote when you go to the philippine consulate on october 20th you can claim for your uh you can also register yourself as a voter in the philippine election so if you do register yourself as a voter you can you will get a national id with [Music] operationalized but once it's operationalized um you will also be registered uh in the national id including your vote first id we will send you that okay um secondly when you do vote for the philippine elections the opinion election is actually voted as an app you will be an overseas absentee voter no um as an overstreet over absentee voter you will receive the um you will receive your ballots no on election day we will mail them to you okay so if you do want to register as a voter no when you claim your dollar citizenship document um you can do so at the philippine consulate and please indicate your address in 2022 okay you can vote for your next philippine president so there are four million filipino americans so if you do both uh properly know you can actually influence the philippine elections okay um okay with the right to be voted for no if you do want to run in the philippine election i want to tell you that something can pronounce your american citizenship for that if you are holding public office you have to you have to only have one citizenship okay uh the reason for that is and at the same time serving the government okay uh so that will also apply if you want to be the president of the u.s no it's not nice to become the president of the u.s and have a filipino and american citizenship at the same time no you will be impeached okay um last point no um okay this point is tax a lot of filipinos are afraid of getting dual citizenship because they think that they will have to that's entirely true no i understand that all of you are permanent residents of the us so we don't care about your income here no we will not ask you for income here because only permanent presidents of the philippines will be taxed for income for income earned within the philippines and for instance outside the philippines for the first six months no so uh since you're not in you're not in the philippines we won't actually the only way the philippine government can tax you is if you do any transactions in the philippines by transaction this means that if you are um if you are uh um putting up provinces in the philippines or sending money in the philippines or buying real property they are maintaining real property and the life and if you put up a business there which we highly encourage you will have to declare your business with the bir and pay proper taxes um take note that your irs will require you to pay taxes foreign income but fortunately the philippines and the us are parties to aid was it a dual taxation if you paid one party of your tax taxable liabilities and claim for tax credit in the other possible entities of filipinas no um and you pay the bir you have to collect all your bir tax returns and then you file a your bir tax receipts to irs so that they will not um they will credit the amounts you paid for in the philippines to your taxable liabilities here in the us okay so that is my short briefing if you have any questions you can i can i can answer it now or you can send me an email later just send me yeah yes ma'am um is october 20 can we apply right away for the passport you have to apply for um to be called that you have to have a schedule for the passport renewal so yeah the reason why we're doing this question is to lessen the number of people in the consulate so um we have a passport appointment so use the password separate appointment for password i'll just separate the information but in any case no one you don't really need the philippine passport it's just another separate id no uh you can go to the philippines without it okay okay all right thank you yes i am the airlines are aware of the philippine policy number so yeah number nine do you want citizenship number one i just want to invite everyone to stand up okay one two three hey eternal office my question is yes it's me question okay um um [Music] okay to is all you have to do is uh foreign thank you so much marco have a good day thank you thank you so much again [Music] bye-bye six months foreign um um [Music] wow [Music] [Laughter] [Music] [Music] you
