if you're using the LMS and you upload a PDF and you think that it should be fine in terms of accessibility because you have made it fairly simple for the reader to use but you get this right here that will assign if you click that it'll tell you the reason that it's having problems and it says accessibility scores down because it does not have headings yet we can see that does have headings right here so let me show you real fast how to fix that and what actually happens well this is a PDF it was created in word word puts in something called metadata metadata is information about the text itself that while you don't see it a computer program does so I'm gonna go back to the word document where this was started and in a Word document there of course this tool up here you may use it all the time you may not if you've no are unfamiliar with it I'll make a quick explanation this is just sort of sets up the kind of font you want to use consistently when you're doing your standard document you can set them up separately for different types of documents but that's another conversation the first thing I want to do though is I want to have this be a title so what I'm doing instead of just coming over here and say well I make it bold I want to make it bigger that won't tell the reader it's a title that will just be something that someone who doesn't have any visual problems couldn't recognize that as perhaps a larger bolder font would be a title heading but what I'm gonna do is I want to make that larger now this all is what's called normal font normal just means the standard font you start with this as you are probably well aware but and this is my title heading out to be a 14-point century gothic bold and I'm gonna come up here and if I right-click this and I say update title to match section now from now on if I if I use that I come up and click that button Bing it's worked well I don't want that to be a title book because I already have one instead I want this to be a heading just a heading to a section so same thing I'm gonna come up here and a double click it so I can set my heading if I don't have it right yet because maybe maybe I come up here and I click this heading it's like ah that's not what I want and now what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna say I want it to look like this I want to be boldface however now that it's where I want it I'm going to come up here and I'm gonna right-click heading and I'm gonna say update heading to match selection which is sort of cool because then the next time I want to do something I say I want to this is a heading as well I'll come up there I'll click that come up here and click heading one and Bing I've got it ok now that I have the headings on the air and I've got it had an inset and set up my ordered list here as well I'll come up here to save it I got to say that normally before I do anything else I'll save this is a PDF now I'm also on my desktop and remember this little icon right here that shows it's only at 50% and it needs to be improved well now we've improved us that icon will go away when you upload it this new one so I saved it as a PDF I then uploaded it into Moodle and within Moodle I can open up a reading read aloud which is what I use within my Chrome browser to read and it's pretty good so let's see what that sounds like cammo 9 to lab tests show all necessary calculations show units be neat and orderly write your answers with the correct number of significant figures getting started safety one what does SDS mean to what information does an SDS contain types of matter 3 so that is all there is to getting rid of that issue where it says that you don't have headings if you fix them in word and then save it as a PDF and upload it that should go away thanks so much and have a good day
