Send initial admission
welcome to a new presentation my name is Louise with International Admissions and today I'm going to talk about how to send transcripts and exams to the University of Arizona and this is for undergraduate International Admissions we're going to talk about understanding the admission requirements understanding the u.s. schooling system checking requirements by home country transcripts how and where to send them and exams how and where to send them so for the first topic understanding the admission requirements it is important to understand that the University of Arizona admits students at the most basic level will have a high school grade point average GPA of 3.0 and/or a transfer GPA of 2.5 so the transfer is for university or college background and then here you can see an actual couple of grades the first on the left the u.s. GPA system you can see the letter grades the the great points and the percentages and on the right you can see a US and exam equivalency grid so the u.s. GPA system compared with other systems around the world so take a moment and examine this and this will give you an idea of what we're looking for once you have examined the basic guidelines or admission requirements you can actually proceed and examine all the details on the website from admissions that Arizona edu you click on how to apply and then international and for the purposes of this video we are focusing on freshmen and transfer so let's click on freshmen and what you're gonna see is that we do provide you with all of the details for academic requirements and then competin see requirements and it's important to understand that some programs or colleges may require additional information and/or admission requirements as noted under individual pages so that would be for the competitive programs in architecture and engineering fine arts nursing and business programs by the eller College of Management so what we're looking for at the basic level is a 3.0 recalculated grade point average which is basically a b or better where a is a 4.0 from a secondary school you have to understand that as part of the admission process do recalculate your GPA because we don't take all of the classes that you have taken in high school we are looking for a very specific background or set of classes that we explain on this section below under the competin si requirements we're looking for English you know for years math for years laboratory science social science foreign language Fine Arts one year and this is for international students who have attended four years of high school in the US but for students or international students who have completed high school outside of the US then we have you know this section right here so when you go to this page you're gonna see all of those details so it's important to understand the basic part and then go into details with what we're looking for and you can also examine requirements by home country so this is the slide you know examining at the basic level and then what you do is you also want to study the u.s. schooling system because that's gonna give you an idea again of for what we're looking for so understanding the u.s. schooling system so this is a graphic that will help you understand how the u.s. schooling system is structured on the right side you have the grades and on the left you have the age so from the bottom up you can see that the US schooling system is divided by preschool and then kindergarten and then elementary primary school and then junior high school middle school and then high school and then when a student is 18 years of age at that point typically is when that student is going to a university or college so the importance of this graph is for you to try to adapt it based on your own country because when you apply we are looking for three years of grades 9 10 and 11 so you need to understand what that looks like or what that means for your own country so in the US you're nine that's the freshman year and then 10 is sophomore 11 is junior and 12 is senior so what we recommend is for students to consider applying for admission when they are when they have started their senior year this is for international students because that will allow them plenty of time to prepare for admission for the next year so when you do that at that point you're already gonna have nine ten and eleven and that's what we're looking for as part of the initial admission evaluation and depending in some countries maybe in some countries high school is four years or maybe three years if a high school in your country for example is three years then we would need your last year of middle school or junior high school whatever its called and your first two years of high school so this graph just enables you to understand how you need to adopt it because we are looking for three years of great so that we can evaluate you in the cases when students have already graduated high school in high school in that country's four years then we would need to see the entire high school background or the entire high school experience the comprehensive high school transcript in those cases when high school is four years but that's not always the case some countries in some countries high school is three years and doing that happens then we need the last year of middle school in the first three years of high school so that when you're in your last year then you're applying for admission checking requirements by home country once you have analyzed the basic requirements you have gained a greater understanding of the u.s. schooling system then at that point it's a good idea for you to examine the country requirements and to navigate to this page again from admissions at Arizona edu you go to how to apply and then international and then you're gonna click on freshman international for example and again you're going to navigate to this section and you're gonna click on that button that takes you to that section where you can examine you know country requirements so let's take a look for example India we click on India and this is a very good site because it's gonna give you more specifics for your own country so for example we're looking for a minimum overall grade required B and for India's equivalency that's a 50 out of a hundred it just depends on the country and we have coded those requirements on this page so let's look at Mexico and you'll see a similar thing you know minimum overall grade required 8bn or be equivalent so that's just the equivalency from Mexico and you can see here you're gonna see that throughout the website that we are looking for records or high school transcript showing grades 9 10 and 11 if still in high school or grades 10 11 and 12 if completed high school so it really depends on the country but at the most basic level we are always looking for 3 years of greats transcripts how and where to send them so there are 3 options when you are sending or compiling your international high school and international college transcripts how and where to send them the first option is you can upload them with your application as you are submitting or working on your ua future application there is a tool there's an option there for you to upload your previously prepared documents or transcripts and here you can see that we're looking for legible PDF documents they must be in English and there are apps that you can download on your phone that will allow you to take pictures and convert those into legible PDF documents so the first option for sending your documents is you can upload them with your application but what if you wanted to do it in separate steps then option 2 is you can upload them afterwards let's say that you focus on completing and submitting your application first then after that you can log back in and upload your documents in your UF future portal then the final option is you can also email them to this email right here to international at email that Arizona the edu so we are flexible in the ways that we can collect for the initial admission evaluation international credentials and this is for international high school transcripts and for international college transcripts we are flexible in in we are flexible in terms of how we can collect them for initial admission evaluation there's also situations where international students are studying in domestic or u.s. high schools so they have the same options for initial admission evaluation they can send them following these options for initial evaluation but we do have to collect official transcripts at the end of the process so for us college and university transcripts if you have attended any college or university in the United States during or post high school then you must submit official transcripts from each institution you have attended so what you do is you must request official transcripts from those schools or that school follow their websites search for how you can request their transcripts and then send them electronically directly to University of Arizona to this email right here you can also mail them but electronically submitted transcripts are preferred because everything's gonna be automatic and then you can learn more about that on this link this page is important because it tells you how you can send your official domestic college transcripts to the University of Arizona and again you have the different options here if you mail them or if you're gonna send them electronically so look at your school look at your University and examine the different options that they provide to you in terms of how you can request official transcripts and of course you're gonna pay a fee for requesting that we go back to our presentation the next thing we want to talk about is exams how and where to send them so on our website which is right here you're gonna see a grid the talks about exams and English proficiency and we are listing here the most popular ones are the most common exams for students who are gonna have to take the TOEFL the Test of English as a foreign language you're gonna be able to see that the requirement for most majors is 70 but for the competitive programs is 79 so for tofu you have to send your TOEFL exam or your score officially from ETS and on the website we give you the code which is code or number 48:32 for the IELTS this is an exam where you can provide us with your TRF number it's a code you're gonna see on your score sheet you can provide your trf number and we can verify your score online and also you can see this course here 6.0 for most majors or 6.5 for the competitive ones there's also a test a new test center for English as a Second Language offers a CPT full academic exam if you go to the website and you follow the link you'll be able to learn more about that another very popular question or thing to talk about is the SAT or a CT these are not required for admission but they are required to compete for top scholarships so if you're going to send us your SATs or your a CT scores then you have the school codes as well for university of arizona school code 48:32 for SAT and for a CT 0 0 9 6 so for the SAT you have to send it directly from the College Board in order for us to consider it an official score that we can use in your scholarship consideration and the same thing for the a CT you have to follow the instructions on their portal to send the score directly from a CT following institution code zero zero nine six for us to collect it officially and that's how we can collect those again to consider you for scholarships and to learn more about this grid and where we have this information you click on that and it's gonna take you to this page the English proficiency section where we have the SAT and a CT and everything else and we do have other options or other exams or things you can do to satisfy English proficiency in case it's going to be required for you and on that page you can see all of that information thank you so much for your attention that concludes our presentation if you have questions you can email us at international at Arizona edu I also invite you to learn more and apply directly by going to admissions at Arizona edu if you are watching this on YouTube and you like the video
