Send initial choice

on had a little technical difficulty just give me a second get this going good evening everyone so thank you heather as heather said my name is tracy howard moore and i work for austin college and i too am so grateful to have the opportunity to have worked with you heather and i want to thank you this evening for asking me to be a part of what i think is a very important conversation for your seniors the title of my presentation this evening is called what's next and i like i said i'm excited to be here to be a part of the conversation that i believe uh to talk about things that i believe will help you build the bridge between high school and college over the next couple of months and i know that um as a senior i'm thinking back to when i graduated from high school and you certainly feel a range of emotions at this time some of you may be feeling excited about the opportunities that await you you may be feeling a little nervous about what's to come you may be feeling fearful of the unknown um and i was actually just talking to a student a couple of days ago who is planning to start at austin college in the fall and i asked them how they felt about their experience and about what's uh to come and this person said that they felt ready and so i hope that some of you are feeling the same way feeling ready and that you will also understand and realize that you're not alone that other students are feeling this way and it's pretty common to be having these range of emotions but all in all it's an exciting time and i hope that the information we share this evening and the discussion that will um take place afterwards will certainly be helpful to you as you navigate through these things so the first and so what i wanted to say is that i have about six or seven tips i'm going to give you this evening that will help you um think through some of the the things you should be thinking about at this time the first one i want to talk about is the choice the admission cycle is so interesting because in the fall you spend a great deal of time putting together your applications and hoping that you're going to get that decision from the college and get a favorable decision from the college of your choice once you get that decision then the choice becomes yours so it's time then for you to make a decision about where you're going to go to school and for some this choice may be easier than it is for others because you may be thinking i've known all my life that i want to go to this school or this is my first choice if i get in i'm going to that school but for others it may not be as easy and i think it's important to while even before you get a decision to be thinking about that choice and then preparing yourself to make that choice and the way i suggest you do that is one to weigh your options and the first three questions you see here what do you need what is important to you and what does the school have to offer i think are essential questions to ask yourself as you're going through this process ideally i would tell students it's helpful before you even apply to a college to start thinking about well what are what what are my non-negotiables in a college what do i absolutely have to have in the college that i'm planning to attend um and and know that before you apply to the school so that you don't spend time applying to a school that may not be a school that is a good fit for you um but it's important to think about what are your non-negotiables do you have to have a school that has a small um in that that is small environment because you learn better in smaller size classrooms right um and then i think it's important to think about what's important to you this may be different than what you need right so what is important to you is diversity important to you are you do you want to be at a school where there are other students who look like you or come from the same background as you or do you want to be at a school that is located in a big town or in a smaller town some of you may be going to a small town that may have never lived in a small town and that may be a challenge for you but i think it's important that you make your list of things that are important to you um so that way you can then ask the next question which is finding out what the school has to offer and that requires a little bit of research a little bit of time put into it and the reason why i include included this slide because i can remember um from my days when i worked as a college and career counselor talking to students all of the time and trying to understand what their motivations were to for applying to one particular school over the other and oftentimes that motivation would be built around what their friends were doing so i'm applying to i've applied to this school because my friends are going to this school i'm applying to this school because my parents want me to go to this school or my parents want me to just apply to this school to see if i get in i i think so i never assume that a student has done all of their research on the school by the time they have submitted their application and certainly not even by the time they may have received a decision so it's important to learn what the school has to offer and a lot of that can be done through research and discussions with people at the school that will help you kind of get the answers to those questions so once you've kind of done that you've asked those questions you've written down the things that are important to you you have an understanding of what the school has to offer then i don't think that quite gets everyone to making a decision about about the school i think the next step would be to then think about what i call the three f's these are fit feel and finances so what does fit mean fit is different for everyone what is a fit for what may have benefit for me in high in college may not be the same fit for uh miss mayfield in in her college selection so i think it's important to understand what it mean what fit means to you and i think answering those three questions that we that i have above will help you get to that point understanding fit and knowing if this college is a good fit for you requires research and self-awareness you have to kind of you may mean you may have to separate yourself from your friends to decide what makes the most sense for you and your family the next one is the next f is feel and feel is a little different and it's a little maybe a little hard to get us a fee a feel for um especially during these times where we are in a pandemic and it may be hard to get a really good feel for a college but i think it's important to try to figure out how does the school make me feel that can happen in a number of ways one way you might get a feel for a school is obviously visiting the campus i their schools may be doing campus visits i know at austin college we are doing campus visits but they're very very small visits and certainly pre-arranged visits and certainly done in a safe manner you want to check to see if you haven't visited your college if you can visit that college to get a feel for how it how it feels how you feel being on that campus you can also do that by engaging with staff and faculty and students and even if you um you may have already engaged with with um faculty and staff on a particular campus but give that some thought think about how you uh those conversations made you feel did it feel like yeah this is an inviting welcoming place or if this made me this this uh confirms what i have felt about this college for so many um years and i really feel like this is a good fit for me so i think it's important to do that and you can ask to speak with students you can ask to be connected with faculty on a campus just to try to get an idea uh about how a college feels and finances is obvious and again it is different for different people it's different for everyone but i think you have to answer the question what makes the most sense for me and my family financially um obviously one of the the before you can make a decision uh you will and you're planning if you're planning to apply for financial aid you'll want to make sure you have that fafsa in so that a part of your decision making will be that financial package from the college and it's ideally you want to start working on that right now if you haven't i encourage you to do so because when the decision date comes you'll want to be able to have be able to weigh all of these things does the college feel right does it have what i need does it offer the things that are important to me um is it a good fit overall and obviously the big one is can we afford it are is the financial package enough for me and my family okay so i mentioned national college decision date is may 1st you may know that this is the deadline by which the colleges will be expecting you to submit your deposit now this may vary if you apply to a college that has rolling admissions or if you apply later that date may vary from school to school or obviously if you applied in one of the early um action programs then you may have have a deposit date that's earlier but i i posted this because i want you to get an idea about okay you have a little bit of time to before you have to make that decision and ideally you would have done some of the work that you need to do to feel good about your choice before may 1st all right so the next thing you can do is getting connected success in college requires you to form relationships with your peers with faculty and with staff members on your campus and i know it's weird i think one of the things that as i worked with high school students and now working with college students again i hear them talk about this idea that i'm really really sad to leave my friends behind i'm really sad i'm frightened about the idea of making new friends and i get it i understand i started a new job in the summer and there is this a bit of nervousness about connecting to with people because you've had such strong bonds over the last four years but i think it's important to get this um to keep this in mind that your current friendships will still be there looking i think it's important to look at college and what happens there as building expanding your social circle as opposed to losing friends obviously your friends may go in different directions but you are expanding that and there now is a great time to start expanding your social uh networks and connecting to students who will be going to the same college as you and you can do that now i think now more than ever there are opportunities to connect with with your classmates and with faculty members and with colleges um electronically maybe and there's a lot of emphasis on that now um obviously than maybe there even was before so obviously social media platforms i was actually on um obviously we know facebook and instagram but i was on tiktok and i saw that the university of michigan has a page on tick tock and it was great there's content that largely is put on uh put into the page from students um which is i think is valuable information it's a great way i don't think that just anybody would be going to the university of michigan tick tock page unless they have some interest in that so i think really kind of leveraging these media platforms to start connecting with students sharing the fact that hey i'm going to be starting at the school in the fall and i really am interested in connecting with with people uh so doing more of that obviously zoom events um and really here i'm thinking about colleges are doing zoom events for students um as you know virtual uh information sessions and preview day events but also this is a great way to have those meetings those one-on-one meetings with either alums or current students or faculty that we talked about expanding your uh social circle connecting to the college to learn um more about what the college has to offer and trying to get at this idea of like is this a college a good fit for me so don't be afraid to put yourself out there um on some of these media platforms obviously my recommendation is to check with the school usually i know at austin college we have our official links on our website so it's probably better to start there than to maybe pick a random uh colleges um twitter or um facebook account just to make sure that you are connected on the right page and getting information that is correct and certainly valuable all right so the next one is summer enrichment and here i think especially now more than ever colleges are aware and they recognize the challenges that you and your classmates and parents your students have endured over this past year and many colleges are looking for ways to provide you with opportunities this summer to keep your academic skills fresh to connect with the community so i think it's maybe you may want to ask your college or colleges you're interested in if they offer summer programs for you to participate in over the summer again this is a great way to meet your community before you arrive on campus in the fall it also will give you a chance to um get a feel for the technology platforms that the colleges are using that that your particular college is using that will help you to navigate through the learning and teaching um in a pandemic time because many schools will still be online or high flex and if you're planning to be remote in the fall you'll want to just get a feel for you know the the system the the platforms that the colleges college is using to see if um it's easy to navigate and at the very least you'll have a head start on it if you do that and then also it keeps you occupied in the summer i'm not saying you all don't have things to do this summer but i just think it's a great way to be um occupied give you something to do keep your skills fresh and some schools at some schools you may be even be able to earn some credit from these programs okay so finish strong this isn't this is i think an important one because again going back many many years ago when i graduated high school i remember well actually not even just high school every program that i graduated from my undergraduate school my master's program i had senioritis i was anxious to get out of there and especially in that last those last few months of school and so i know it's a very real thing to have senioritis you've been here for years it's an exciting time you're getting ready to graduate but i also realized that is also a time where senioritis shows up and sometimes it looks like a student may not be as motivated as they were before it may look like uh you're losing a focus maybe a little towards that graduation day and and getting out of high school some students tend to start having maybe attendance or tardiness issues or maybe even doing some risky behavior that may seem like fun because it's your senior year but it's important to know for you to stay focused and finish your senior year strong why because one colleges still care about your grades in this last semester you will be submitting your final transcripts to the colleges you want that final transcript to be confirmation that they admitted the right person to that school you want to make sure that they understand that there's no question about your readiness for college so it's really important to make sure that you stay focused academically and make sure that your academic record doesn't shift in your last semester also you may be applying for scholarships and some of those scholarships may require your final transcript there may be scholarships that come up over the summer there may be scholarship opportunities at your college that may come up over the summer where they may be looking at your your grade point average so i just want to encourage you to finish strong and one way you can do that is try setting goals one goal that i can think of in your senior year is maybe they're maybe you've never had a semester where you've gotten all a's or maybe you've had a class with a particular teacher and you never got an a in your class and you're like i'm going to get an a or you've gotten a's and you want to get all a's in the class i don't know what the motivation might be for you but i think it's important to think about set a goal academically for this semester and try to stick to it i think you'll feel better about it and i think also it will help you fine-tune your skills it's not too late to redirect some of your behavior patterns it's not to let too late to um start building some of those skills that we know will be helpful for you in college college is different than high school it's going to require you to stretch yourself in almost every way academically socially uh to be successful in college so you're and it's not too late to start now so thinking about things like note taking or study skills time management organization writing skills it may seem crazy to think like well why would i be working on this now bridging that transition from high school to college is so important i cannot tell you how important it will be and then we'll also build your confidence and and helping you understand um you know that you've accomplished something you've reached some goals but i think the other thing that is important about this is that it will help you understand where your gaps are right so like i said high school is different than college if you know right now like yeah okay i'm really struggling with this note-taking thing one thing you can engage the colleges about or what type of support services do they have for students for you who may be having difficulty with note-taking or who may be concerned about time management or maybe concerned about your writing skills or or whatever that is those are some things as you're doing that researching of the college and trying to figure out what the college has to offer this is a good time to be thinking about those things as well but really really think about finishing strong how you finish the race feeling good about you know obviously you'll feel good when you when you graduate um but really having a strong semester i think can really add to that experience for you all right so i want to talk a little bit about what i'm calling uh delayed decisions okay um i want to first talk about the deferral process so typically if you're deferred it can come uh out of two decision two application cycles so if you applied early action or early decision in your deferred that typically means the school is pushing your application into uh the regular pool or the regular decision pool and they want to review your application alongside all of their regular applicants this i think is not necessarily a bad thing i know when i worked at the high school students stressed out about you know getting deferred to the regular decision cycle it's not a bad thing and i'll tell you why first off you it takes you out of that binding decision that you had if you apply it to a binding program right so it takes you out of that program and you no longer have are obligated to go to that particular school and then it also can give you if the college will allow it allow it give you an opportunity to add some things to your application that might um make the dis may provide more information to the committee i have that down as a question to ask because not all colleges will allow that for deferred applicants but i think it's important to ask the questions um just to see if they would allow that um you also made to be deferred if you applied regular decision this is not as common but it it is it may happen at some schools this in this situation the college usually is wanting more information from you and they generally in the letter that uh or email that indicates that you've been deferred they generally will say we'd like more information here are some things that we recommend you include and you know i recommend just being really thoughtful about that and making sure you follow the directions very carefully based on what they've submitted to you the next um delayed decision is being wait listed the waitlist decision is a little different in that whereas in the deferred um if you're deferred you're kind of pushed into the regular pool pool weightless decision i like to think of that as being in a sort of a holding pattern in my experience students who are wait listed are generally admitted based on if they have space available and a college uh generally would tell you um if the date by when they hope to make a decision um if they don't then it is a fair question to ask them when do you think you will make a decision it depends on the school um but a lot of times that decision may be dependent upon how many people deposit on that may first deadline right so they don't like to make a student wait that long but it can take until may 1st or sometimes after that it depends on the college um and they have gotten a lot better about being very clear about what that means and what your ex how to manage your expectations again questions to ask here what additional information materials can i provide is there information that would be helpful um and then another question i would recommend is how many times have you gone to your wait list in the past if you've gone to that wait list how many students have you taken on average you know it's different every year it depends on the pool every year but these are fair questions i think to ask the school if you happen to fall into to that category the other thing i think is important to remember if you're thinking about sending information to a school if you're deferred or if you're wait listed and that is that generally the colleges will be looking for new information so they're looking for new information about you that wasn't included in your original application so sending them something over again thinking well maybe they didn't see this it's probably not a good idea you want to make sure that you have new information so that could be if you again have an updated transcript if you apply before your fall grades came out and your your fall grades are really good you want to share that information with them so they can see that upward trend if maybe you re take one of the entrance exams s-a-t or a-c-t again new information that i think they would find useful and helpful and then last thing um i would recommend is asking if there are what are the opportunities for scholarship if you are on the waitlist it's important to know that because remember you're gathering this information to help you make a decision to help you decide which school is a good fit and if you are wait listed at a school and your decision is delayed what we don't want what we don't want you to do is to put all your eggs into that basket and miss opportunities so be thinking about your plan b's and what are your other schools and doing that research is on that school to make sure that your plan b is not just a well i didn't get in but it's a school that you feel is really a good good fit for you okay and then lastly these are what i'm calling final details i think it's important to make a to-do list about some of the things you need to do before you leave to go to college maybe contacts that you wanted to make over the summer things that you wanted to do but didn't have time to do one good idea that i got from another one of my colleagues is to make a list of the things you'll need for college and then you know graduation is coming and people want to buy gifts maybe you can start a uh a wish list on amazon and and you know give that to people as a gift ideas for you start making a list of things that you are going to need to do or need for college submit your fafsa i know i said this before but it's really important to do this will be crucial for some of you in helping you make a decision about where you're going to go to college i'm also engaging with your school and thinking about having the conversation with your family your parents or with your children about am i going to be remote am i going to be in person is is it high flex is it remote and in person and how do i feel about that how does that look how is that how is that happening at the college of your choice and then the last thing i want to say is to have fun relax um over the summer not after you graduate spend some time with your friends because like i said some of you may be going off in different directions and so if you can spend a little time with your friends before you go because once college starts things move pretty quickly i described it today when i was meeting with a student as um looking at a train coming at you because it moves fast and the pace is really uh is it can be quick for some students and you just want to make sure that you give yourself some time to relax celebrate all that you've accomplished in high school and getting um your mind prepared for the next journey the next uh phase of your journey and that is college so that's all i have in terms of presentation uh you have my information here my email and the austin college website i also include included miss mayfield's email address um as she is the frisco isd representative and will certainly be the one you want to reach out to for specific questions about that awesome thank you so much tracy and just to mention uh my email address on there it's actually it is mayfield he it's at friscoisd.org so you'll need to type out briscoe isd no worries on that so we've got a few questions in the chat let me see if there are any that we did not answer um okay someone had a question about um that we had a few questions coming on about um fafsa and loans and um there was a question specifically that said what types of student loans can we apply for and so um do you want to answer that tracy sure so typically the loans are well there will be a couple of sets of loans so there's the loans that you get from the federal government stafford loan they're either a subsidized stafford loan which is one where the federal government pays the interest on it while you're in college or the unsubsidized uh stafford loan or maybe i'm saying them backwards sorry where you are expected to pay the interest on it while you're in college and that interest is different so you're not necessarily paying on it while you're in college um there also is a loan uh called the plus loan which is a parent's loan that's available to students and then some of your colleges some of the colleges may have loans that are school issued loans where the school gets money from the federal government to provide loans to students based on usually based on need those are the traditional loans that you have there are some situations where students may those loans may not be enough to cover your tuition and there are some private organizations that offer loans as well but most often it's the stafford loans and the plus loans awesome thank you so there was a question that came in that says um how do you find your class ranking some colleges have automatic acceptance at different levels um and so just a reminder on the fisd ranking so if you are in the top 10 of your class your transcript will show you that it will have you will have an actual number for example you might be number 10 out of 500 so if you are in the top 10 of your class your fic transcript will show that with that number if you if your transcript does not show that number that means that you're not in the top 10 percent of your class but you can find out what quarter of your class you're in you can go inside the student portal and there is a tile in there that says um gpa cutoffs and you can click on that and it will show you for your campus the gpa cutoffs and so if you look can look on your transcript and you can find your way to gpa and you can find the range of where your gpa fits in there so then you would at least know i'm in okay i don't know my exact number but i do know i am in the top quarter of my class or maybe i'm in the second quarter or maybe i'm in the third quarter okay and then there's already a pre-populated letter in there so that if you choose to if it helps you you can share that letter with a college admissions office and so that would then alert the college okay we this you know fisd doesn't specifically rank but this is a student in the second quarter of their class so that may help some of you if the schools do some of those automatic admission cutoffs um this ranking system actually they um the district moved to this system about three or four years ago and it some good things happened um our kids from frisco our acceptance rates from many of the common schools that our students apply to in texas and out of state were higher so what we do know is that in a district as competitive and as you know just with the all the amazing students we have here this type of ranking system actually helps more of our students get into the colleges that they're applying for so that was actually really nice i think for a lot of kids so hopefully i answered that one okay a question on a final transcript to the college um does the student send it automatically or do the counselor send it great question um all of you will probably at some point in april um your counselors they may be doing this in different ways they may be doing it in zoom or in advisory lessons or maybe just perhaps by email but they will send you instructions out on how to request that final transcript and parchment um you probably could do it now you basically are just going to order a transcript to be sent but you are instead of sending it now you are going to select hold for grades and what that does is alert our campus that we are not to send that until we have the final grades on there and so that's basically all you're going to be doing but your counselors again your campus will send out instructions for that most students typically do that in april or may again when you know for sure where you're going to so don't worry about it now you do have some time to do that but that's really the only thing is and you order a transcript in parchment and you select hold for grades instead of go ahead and sending it now there was another question on the final transcripts we have to send the first semester or the final transcript so some of your schools if they ask for a mid-year report then you need to send that you can send the transcript now because then they are asking for that first semester um grades the final transcript again if they just need that one that one will you can request it in april or may and that way it's going to have also that second semester on there and it will be your students in end-all final transcript for high school all right um let me go back through here some good questions um does we had a question on does fic use naviance we do not use naviance um some districts use that to do some college and career type activities also to send school reports we do not have naviance we actually used to but we do not now we do have zello all of your students have a zello account if you go in the student portal um there's college and career in interest inventories there's call there's amazing college searches that you can do with really strong filters that you can filter colleges by area by degree by cost and so you can run some really nice um searches in there so um we do buy a zello account and that's actually x-e-l-l-o so all of your students have a free um access to that inside their fic student portal um let's see on may 1st do i have to make a decision um to one college i'm going to 100 in the fall so i think we're saying like do we absolutely have to decide and what would you say on that tracy that we pretty much need yeah so i think so the admissions person in me says yeah however um i think that if you truly haven't made a decision at that point then what may happen is that you may have to end up depositing at more than one school and that can get a little pricey right so typically the deposits depending upon the school maybe anywhere from two to three hundred dollars and so you would be depositing at multiple schools and for some people that's not um ideal that's why i think it's important to start kind of going through the process of figuring out which school is the right one for you getting that fafsa in so that you're not really delaying that decision too much and then you'll feel better once you've made the decision because you'll have a peace of mind peace of mind awesome thank you um we had one come in on a lighter note any remedy for senioritis um if any of you guys figure that out i want you to be hosting this thing we're gonna invite all the senior teachers we're gonna invite all the counselors all the senior parents all the kids so um no i would say just keep encouraging your students keep keep them excited you know the conversations going on about what's coming up next for them um enjoy their time left they have second semester um spring second semester flies by in schools there's a lot of things going on um so it's usually just it's going to be here before we know it that we're going to be um at the star and we we're going to be watching all of these guys walk across the stage and it's going to be amazing so enjoy the time that you have left um here in frisco isd because it's um it's going to fly by so um another question um related to gpa for gpa what grades are considered for college admissions um well for all of your grades on your fiscal isd transcript are calculated into gpa that your high school transcript will show two gpas it will show your frisco isd weighted gpa and it will also show an unweighted just college 4.0 gpa there those gpas one is not better or worse the numbers will look different because again our frisco isd weighted scale does issue extra points for certain classes our advanced classes will earn higher weight in that so um we do provide just that unweighted gpa on there because a college can easily see that one and understand um you know how that works it's an easy way to compare your student to other students um so all yeah all your grades are on there those are what are on your transcript the semester grades for all the classes that you've taken and they all pretty much count into your gpa the only one i can think of off the top of my head that doesn't count is if you've had like an aid period a teacher aid so yeah all your electives um your advanced classes your programs your fine arts your athletics um they all do count for different gpa points and they're all listed on your transcript heather can i go back to the question about the deposits one of the other reasons why i think it's helpful to make that decision early on is or by that may first is because of housing choice so oftentimes when you submit that deposit you're also you know putting in your request for it to live in a particular residence hall and the later you wait the the less of a choice you have is the best way to say that and some students may not get the one of their choice if you wait until later to do that so i think a college would tell you that okay awesome thank you um a few more questions about transcripts do you go to parchment to request mid-year reports um most of you if you are doing a school that needs a mid-year report it's going to be it's probably more than likely a common application school and so you can go into your common app account and make sure that you have submitted everything in there and just kind of follow those instructions in there the same way you did um first semester with that initial um you know application piece through there so i would definitely check back in your common app account and make sure like that you are working through that submission process for them um another question how do you get a transcript for scholarships if you need your own transcript sent to you again you can do that in parchment just order one to be emailed directly to you um sometimes students are confused because they log into parchment and they see like an old transcript and they're like wait i've already had like first semester grade should be on here now that that transcript that's showing is just the most recent one that you have ordered so if you order a new one to be sent anywhere it's going to pull the most updated version you can email yourself a copy you can send it on to whoever needs it so that's how you get it and awesome oh go ahead sorry remember when a college asks for a an official transcript that that means that transcript comes directly from the district for your high school to the college so for example if you're planning to go to collin and you they're looking for your final transcript and you just think oh i'll go get it and i'll bring it over they will take that transcript as long as it's in a sealed envelope that has not been opened by anyone directly from that has come directly from your high school so keep that in mind as you're submitting your transcripts that is perfect um another just a point on transcripts um someone had asked i don't see first semester from this year on there yet it's not on there yet um your gpa and rank are actually supposed to come out on friday for all of your campuses so probably most of you will be getting emails from your campus on friday saying gpa and rank has been updated and then you guys can log into hacc you can see your new updated gpa and rank on that day also they will load the new updated transcripts and they will be once you all get that email they will be ready to send out and they will have all updated first semester material on your transcript um someone had a question that they are not seeing everything on their students transcript i would reach out to that your campus counselor if you are a new student you may not have seen any of it yet so all of that is coming um soon if that's the case for you um does the high school behavior record or logs get sent to colleges that is such an awesome question and the answer is actually no so um no discipline records actually don't typically get sent to colleges um there are sometimes um you know counselor evaluation forms that um are requested to fill out and so um a counselor definitely could you know report based on what the college is asking them if there's any instances of you know cheating or inappropriate behavior that they're aware of um so those referral you know those forms could go to other school officials as well so um but they call it i mean the high school no does not send any information besides your students transcript and other than that your student will be requesting recommendations from different individuals at the school to be sent good question let's see um there were a lot of questions about our senior activities for this year i think for most of us we're just gonna have to wait and see kind of what how this spring pans out um as soon as the high schools get the final word on can we do senior activities are we having prom how many graduation tickets as soon as those decisions are made they will let you guys know so if you if there's some of those lingering questions out there that you're like you're not sure of yet i'm guessing those decisions haven't been made yet um and so i would just kind of keep waiting because i know there's probably some things people you know they just don't know yet um i know that the graduation dates and times did post on the fisd website so um hopefully you guys have seen that but if not if all of the those have been posted so and they're all at the start of this year so fef scholarships usually come out in april or may even um we've got just a few more minutes for a few more so i'm going to just kind of look over these um and see if there's any that would be really good for everybody to answer um here's one about housing when do you recommend to apply for housing uh yeah i was actually just responding to that the the deadlines may vary from school to school but typically once you've submitted your deposit then you can be a part of the housing selection choice that is a good question though to ask the school specifically uh because it may that may vary but typically it's once the deposit is made so ideally an earlier deposit you don't have to wait until may 1st to deposit at a school um just a few more questions and then we will wind it up here parchment i know we've talked about parchment a lot parchment is just the system that fisd uses to send your students official transcripts to to you or to a um or to a college um and you can access that on the frisco isd website if you just type in parchment in the upper search engine it'll take you to the parchment page you will create an account and then you can order and send transcripts and for your your students can do that if you have missed your school's fafsa deadline you should just subs the priority deadline you should just still go ahead and submit that as soon as you possibly can most of the time um most of the time schools i can't speak for every college in every situation but most of the time schools will still accept that it's just they have like priority deadlines because again every year for fafsa um schools are kind of pulling from a buckets of money so that the earlier every single year you get your fafsa in it is better for you so you guys just kind of make that an annual thing it typically opens up october 1 every year and again if you're going to be doing the fafsa and filling out the application for financial aid that's something your college student will do every single year while they are in school so yes if you haven't submitted it go ahead and do it now [Music] um i don't really know this one it says how do i know some competitive colleges get false information about a student from a third party other than the student or school how do they handle this i'm not sure what other how what colleges how they would get information from a third party either i know i'm not sure about that one um do our oklahoma and arkansas colleges give in-state tuition um a lot of our neighboring states do have programs for um students that are applying from texas you would just have to review that those admission pages and kind of look and see but a lot of states do have that a lot of our neighboring states absolutely have some programs that especially if you have some high test scores and things like that they will offer our texas students some some breaks on tuition so okay all right well um i think that is it for tonight guys um if you have any questions that we weren't able to answer again please reach out to me anytime you can see my email up there so take a quick picture of it if you need it um tracy thank you so much for being here tonight and thank you for just sharing all this information um we again we're so glad that you guys have made it this far you are this close to having a high school graduate maybe for the first time which is an amazing wonderful accomplishment it's something i personally never get tired of every single year in frisco watching all of our students walk across so i'm excited for you that that's going to be happening very very soon for all of you so again reach out if you need anything else but um thank you for being here tonight and have a wonderful week we'll see you later bye
