this is the mission director you have permission to launch proceeding with account in the summer of 2021 on united launch alliance's inaugural launch of their vulcan rocket they are sending a lander to the moon and we are going with them well kind of sorta if you count as sending your name to the moon as going to the moon that's right earthlings i bought a payload on the peregrine lunar lander for all of us to take part in now to wind this back i was inspired by nasa's several attempts to crowdsource and send millions of laser engraved names to mars on curiosity insight and perseverance on osiris-rex as well as on a sd card filled with names on the parker solar probe and i thought wow that's so cool i wonder if anybody's done that for the moon well no one has until now so what are we doing we're going to engrave a few thousand names on a piece of silicate and send it to the moon in a dhl moon box which here we go on a dhl moon box if you want your own i put a link in the 1st so why am i doing this i'm a firm believer that space is for everyone and the future of space will involve further commercialization consider this my little investment in the future so what's unique about this well as i said this has never been done before this is the first american lunar landing since apollo 17 in 1972. just think about being able to look up at the night sky for the rest of your life and look up in the northeastern corner of the moon and say my name is right there we landed on the moon quick science lesson here we're landing in lacus mortis it's latin for lake of death wow really that's a sad name anyways it's a plane of lava flows and what we would consider from our perspective the northeastern part of the moon it's surrounded by inactive lava tubes that help create this plane i guess the lava explains the lake of death park that's no moon so how do you get your name on this lander it's pretty simple i've already secured the capsule on the lunar lander and have commissioned a micro laser engraving deal with the company control laser to handle the engravings on this hexagonal piece of silicate control laser has been working for years with the likes of
