Send motley us state

[Music] hey y'all my name is lmc if you guys are new to the channel then hit that subscribe button down below hit the notification bell as well if you want to stay up to date turn that on to all so you can get all of my videos when they drop but i'm doing a updated video for the segment on the most likely states to legalize either recreational or medical um you know i was referencing uh mj biz or i mean sorry a motley fool article written by sean williams and it was good it just he's not you know the motley fool is a investing um you know advice company you know they're in the investments and you know they're not really the best source i think really for referencing political uh action right uh in terms of you know when when campus legalization will occur in what state but you want to know what the best by far in my opinion the best uh political cannabis political news source is definitely marijuana moment okay so marijuana moment i think their expertise really comes with tracking different bills that are going on in the house or going on in different governments or different state governments and understanding you know how to report that and they have a lot more info and connections in my opinion compared to the motley fools so i just wanted to do a article i mean i wanted to do a video going over this article um because i think that personally this is much first of all it's much more nuanced that has also many more states and it really gives a much more um much much better understanding of the potential states that are going to legalize in marijuana in 2021 okay so let's go over it okay so this is not this is published nine hours ago on january 1st 2021 um and yeah let's go by kyle yeager by the way shout out to kyle title is these states are the most likely to legalize marijuana in 2021 okay so let's go over their list so states most likely to legalize recreational marijuana okay so that's what we're starting out with first okay so they have connecticut which i definitely agree let's go over what kyle writes so there have been repeated attempts to legalize cannabis in connecticut but none have gotten over the finish line so far and while it's no guarantee the incoming speaker of the house said in november that he feels there's a 50 50 chance that the reform will finally be approved in 2021 right with new jersey right it's now legal in new jersey new york is coming that is going to force you know it's illegal massachusetts it's going to force the mid-atlantic region heavily um you know we've gone over that in a lot of different videos whenever you get states to legalize next to other states it puts pressure on that state to legalize okay so the whole mid-atlantic region i think we're going to see quickly okay so they have connecticut as well and guys definitely if you want i'm not going to go over i'm not going to read it specifically i'm just going to kind of go over each state kind of comment on it but i highly recommend you guys go check out marijuana moment they're a great source like i said i use them all the time and yeah definitely guys go go check them out go support them if you're able to great great news reporting okay we've talked about this as well so new mexico mexico is very likely to legalize in my opinion in 2021 as well as an opinions of kyle and uh kyle yeager and heroin let's go over what they say okay so new mexico is another state where lawmakers have tried to no avail to enact legalization in past sessions but top legislators as well as the governor are optimistic about their prospects in 2021. house speaker brian egolf democrat said that the legislator will again attempt to advance the reform next session for example a bill to legalize cannabis for adult use past one senate committee in january only to be rejected in another before the end of the short 2020 session okay and i just want to highlight this too so uh lujan grisem who formed a working group to study the impact of legalization in 2019 made a similar argument in april noting that the reform could generate a hundred million dollars in annual revenue wow tax revenue jobs all that stuff okay let's go on to the next state they say so new york we've talked a lot about new york already new york you know very good chance that they're gonna i mean they're almost guaranteed to legalize next this coming year or actually happy new year by the way that's that recording this january 1st so yes happy new year so in april it was coming april there was they had set a date of april first i don't know if they're going to meet that or not um now really the big and i've talked about this other videos but really the big kind of thing holding it back from legalization is where they're trying to figure out where is the money going to go everyone's trying to kind of fight okay where's that tax money going to go right so just a little bit of squabbling over that but that will that'll get done i think okay rhode island i think this is another major one too that will definitely happen in 2021 so rhode island's governor and legislative leaders have expressed significant interest in legalizing marijuana in 2021 and while there are still some disagreements about what a legal market might look like and i've talked about this they may be thinking about doing a state-run model which is not a good idea i've done a whole video on it go check it out if you haven't um but very likely that it will happen in 2021 as well okay let's keep going so virginia virginia we went over this in the last video as well governor ralph northam he kind of wants to be the first southern state to like you know legalize cannabis recreationally so you know i think that there's a pretty good chance of that as well i will uh you know and i talked more about that in my last video but um it's great to see you for virginia okay okay so we have for the first category that we just wanted so states most likely to legalize recreational marijuana and then they're we're going to the next next group of potential states and that is states that could legalize recreational marijuana so they're not super likely necessarily to but they have the ability to they're in a better position so let's just read over what they how they classify this so in addition to the states above where a combination of gubernatorial uh metaphorical and legislative uh support and a line behind ending prohibition there are several other states where momentum is building and that legalization is possible though less likely to to to do remaining opposition from certain top leaders okay so delaware talk about delaware a little bit here and there medical program is really small there so in 2019 a delaware house committee approved a bill the legal legalized marijuana for adult use in the state but it did not advance before the end of the session representative ed osinski democrat sponsor of the measure plans to reintroduce uh plans to reintroduce it in 2021 according to the marijuana policy project um shout out to the marijuana policy program um so legalization legislation previously received a majority of support on the house floor in 2018 but procedural rules required a super majority for it to pass and it didn't meet the threshold okay but building momentum like i said guys you want more detail go read the actual article i highly recommend you do um i think it's like i said really well done so next one maryland so a top maryland lawmaker recently pre-filed a bill for 2021 that would legalize recreational cannabis beyond permitting adults to possess and purchase marijuana the legislation would also allow for states by states sales by state licensed businesses expunge past convictions and establish a social equity program meant to reinvest to communities disproportionately impacted by the war on drugs okay so it's been pre-filed right i think there's a lot of states have pre-filed bills um but you know i think that's a good sign though you won't have that ready let's go on to the next one though minnesota okay minnesota is a really interesting one so the most significant factor bolstering the chances of passing legalization in minnesota in 2021 is the support of house majority leader ryan winkler democrat who filed a bill earlier this year to enact the policy change and governor tim waltz democrat who has taken steps to repair the state for eventually ending prohibition winkler described his legislation which did not advance the session as the best in the country in part because it would have prioritized social equity in the industry okay that'll be interesting to see how that turns out i really do hope uh minnesota can get it you know done you know we'll have to see maybe and you know a lot of these states that were the states that could legalize right in this category um you know a lot of these states in my opinion are gonna probably get a voter initiative in 2022 right so the first category that we went over like most likely to legalize in 2021 those are probably gonna happen these are either gonna happen in 2021 or they're going to have a voter initiative in 2022 unless there is some prohibitionists out there that are able to block it from getting on the ballot but if it gets on the ballot good chance it's going to pass because i mean if we just saw this past election we literally saw every single place where there's cannabis on the ballot win literally six for six i believe right we had yeah we had four we had four recreational two medical medical marijuana i believe states they were passed right so we had yeah so it won yeah and it beat every single candidate on the ballot too as well in terms of popularity for almost all of them which was amazing okay so pennsylvania pennsylvania is a super interesting one as well so it's a massive market it's also part of that mid-atlantic region like we've talked about very big market i believe there's about the population of pennsylvania's about 13 million about 12 and a half million so that's a massive market the medical marijuana industry is booming there prices are very very messed up there and i'm i really appreciate what governor tom wolf and the lieutenant governor um john fetterman have been doing i am a little hesitant though i'm a little worried right now because they are talking about doing a state-run model state-run model and please trust me guys i am not a big privatization person but state-run models when it comes to cannabis alcohol they're not they're not good and they're they're ripe for corruption too that creates a lot of ability for it it's a perfect environment for corruption where you have you know these these these political officials that are in charge of the licensing and and they have they don't make any money off of the incentive of of not favorite you know like it's just ripe for corruption it's right for corruption um there's very little incentive for them to not be corrupting away right which is kind of messed up but it's true and so pennsylvania you know we'll have to see how they do but we'll have to see what happens but let's go over this so since adopting a pro legalization position in 2019 governor tom wolf democrat has repeatedly called on the legislator to enact the policy change he stressed that marijuana reform could generate tax revenue to support the state's economic recovery from the pandemic and that ending criminalization is necessary for social justice okay and um there is you know in pennsylvania now the the state government there you know they are there's a group of republicans right now that really don't like john fetterman don't like really tom they don't like tom wolf at all they really don't like john fireman though um they've got a couple stories on how they've they banned a cannabis flag from it it's a whole story guys go check it out just type in john fetterman uh or type in pennsylvania cannabis in my in the youtube search for my channel and be able to pop up i promise but interesting stuff um yeah he lieutenant governor is kind of he was the one who really researched it did a lot of the initial investigation on why they should be like cannabis and then brought it over to the governor tom wolf and now they've been campaigning quite a bit for it and advocating quite a bit for it okay wisconsin is the next one so the governor of wisconsin recently said that he's considering adding marijuana legalization in his 2021 budget proposal as a means to boost tax revenue amid the pandemic okay so while governor tony evers democrat attempted to get marijuana position decriminalized and medical cannabis legalized through the budget in 2019 republican leaders in the legislature nixed those measures from the final spending bill uh there's since been an open uh question about how the governor would navigate the issue this time around but now he's indicating he may go bolder everest criticized criticized the legislator for failing to act on more incremental reforms at the beginning of 2020 citing overwhelming public support for medical cannabis legalization so we'll have to see how that is you know the the the city of um madison devoted in november they remove the local penalties for marijuana possession and consumption so you know a major population center showing that you know they're trying to move you know at least their local uh cannabis regulations to the right the right area where it should be legalized and not not criminalized really okay um but yeah you guys get like i said guys you always want all the details please go read the whole article i highly recommend okay so let's go to the last category and that is states most likely to legalize medical cannabis so alabama in 2020 the alabama senate approved legislation to legalize medical marijuana in the state but it never advanced in the house amid the pandemic pandemic the senate approved a separate medical cannabis bill in 2019 but it was significantly altered and later died in the house okay one thing we're going to see i guarantee you guys is we're going to see a lot of medical marijuana is going to be is is going to be the initial and typically we see this with a lot of markets but you're starting to see in other regions of america than do you know like south dakota they legalize medical and recreational at the same time with the south though with the with the with the the southeast right it's gonna be a medical marijuana first then recreational and medical marijuana in terms of it's just medical marijuana it's almost impossible for people to deny the that there is medicinal benefits to cannabis right i mean for example like donald trump donald trump is he has said it on over 10 to 15 like 20 different occasions on you know in public being like i i think that medical marijuana is a great idea i'm all for it he's not for recreational i think he said that before but point being in mississippi right i did i did a piece on this a while back um you know the trump campaign actually told uh the grassroots organizations in mississippi there's one specific one i cannot remember the name of right now that were they were putting out ads of videos of donald trump saying oh i'm all for i'm all for medical marijuana i'm all for medical marijuana right and this is for this past election that happened where medical marijuana passed in mississippi right well they were told by the trump campaign can you stop using those but you know regardless though that was a brilliant brilliant move on their part because you know obviously mississippi very very um you know conservative area um and you know having you know donald trump say he's all for don't you know all four medical marijuana you know i'm somebody that they you know a lot of a lot of trump supporters are in mississippi you know that i think that was extremely beneficial but kind of to digress my point digress back to my main point is is that medical marijuana in the south is going to be the initial we're not going to see really any i guarantee we won't see very many uh southern states go and we haven't even seen that many states go like medical we haven't we've literally we haven't seen very many states at all i mean most states usually start medical then go to recreational right but i think we're gonna see a trend like we're gonna see know we saw south dakota we're going to see maybe a couple like right now there's a lot of i mean there's plenty there's 30 there's 30 plus states i can't remember how many 35 states that have medical no 32 states that have medical marijuana i can't remember this specific number and so they are they've already had it but you know you need medical marijuana to help i think show to the public to that specific environment to that specific state hey it's okay it's medical there's medicinal benefits um and yeah so alabama's gonna be super interesting i'm very excited to see that also i wanna make one last note too there is if you look at where is the lobbying money going that's a big part of this right so you look at you know canopy growth you got true leave you got all these big cannabis companies they are actively currently at this moment they've been lobbying places like alabama georgia right the southeast um they have been lobbying a lot of those state governments okay and whenever there's lobbying efforts going into the area stuff is going to get done a lot quicker usually so that is a good sign for legalization right um now let's go to kentucky the home state of the senate majority leader mitch mcconnell so the kentucky house in 2020 approved a bill to legalize medical marijuana in the state but the pandemic stalled the legislation progress in the senate passing medical cannabis legalization in kentucky could have national implications as well as anti-marijuana senate majority leader mitch mcconnell republican kentucky has been long-standing roadblock to reform but could feel pressure to serve his constituents by taking up modest legislation such as protecting banks that service the industry you know you know mitch mcconnell is all about you know representing the banks and corporate interests of you know his not his constituents actually but anyway we'll have to see how that goes um but literally according to a pill a poll released in february nine out of ten kentucky residents support legalizing medical marijuana so it's like wow like that hopefully that will get done okay south carolina okay south carolina interesting another interesting one um in december republicans in the house and senate pre-filed companion legislation to legalize medical marijuana quote i feel this is a very good chance we get something past the session sponsor senator thomas tom davis republican said this bill has been fully vetted after five years of testimony and input by various stakeholders the time has come for lawmakers to get out of the way and allow patients and consult consultation with their physicians to legally and safely access medical cannabis he said so we'll have to see how you know um south carolina is i've heard okay and i want to reference too i had a comment i saw it so north carolina i've heard some i misspoke there are some propositions for medical marijuana in north carolina i believe but um yeah i did mistake on that that's why i wanted to do a video another video on this and do an updated version on you know the potential states that could be legalizing cannabis either medically or recreationally um but like i said guys if you guys when it comes to tracking cannabis legislation all over the country this is the place to come marijuana moment this is where i go um you know i probably shouldn't have used that you know that motley fool article it was not i those guys are stock advisors they're not really i mean not to say that they like you know sean williams he's a good writer with reference but um these guys you come come to marijuana moment for the uh how you know for all these different state cannabis um uh potential legalization efforts you know marijuana moment for sure and and big should thank you and i just want to say you know if kyle yeager if you guys ever see this video i'm sure you've talked i've talked to kyle a little bit text one time a couple times before but um you know i just want to say thank you guys tom angel ben adlin kyle yeager you guys do some great work um you guys are you know really putting in the um you know you're putting in the work to get you know on getting getting the info from on the ground there and and then reporting it to everyone else and and you're you know these guys are very connected in with you know all of the different uh you know advocate groups all over the country and like i said they're they're putting it they're putting a speakerphone on that they're amplifying it they're putting all this info together and they're doing a great job of it and you know i hope just add a little bit to it add some more exposure to what they're doing and what all these different movements are doing in the different states so i just want to say thank you guys too as well because they do some great work so go go check them out if you guys haven't it's marijuanamoment.net uh this is kyle yeager's twitter by the way go follow him if you if you're interested it's just his name kyle yeager so yeah we'll give him a follow um and yeah anyways guys if you guys are new to my channel uh definitely hit the subscribe button we cover all types of different types of cannabis news check out my channel check out other videos you kind of get a sense of what i cover um also check out my other youtube channels my lmc news youtube channel the dab roast my high design documentary series obviously check out the frame of flower podcast that's my podcast uh just released a really really
