hey guys trevor here and in this video i'm going to walk you through the new tick tock age update and the latest age requirements and limitations it's pretty quick and easy so let's jump right in tick tock you might have noticed came out with a recent update that kind of changes the requirements and limitations based on the age that you gave when you signed up for tick tock this partially is related to a fine that they got from the federal trade commission of 5.7 million dollars in 2019 for sharing and saving children's um information that they collected so they created this new kind of requirements and these new limitations i will walk you through those here the key is that they're kind of three like buckets of age requirements one is if you're under 13 then you won't be able to message you can't post videos you can't comment you can't dm you can't do any of that stuff all you can do is view kind of a subset of videos that are age appropriate if when you sign up for tick tock you say that you're under 16 then there are a bunch of requirements and limitations there this kind of web page and i'll share this in the description goes through the exact limitations but you can't do things like you can't set your videos to download you can't duet or stitch with anyone else you can only have comments from certain friends and then a big thing is is that you can't send messages uh to anyone else and the latest update is that tick tock prevents um you from making that account public so the default if you're under 16 is that that age will be set to or that account will be set to private and then the last kind of requirement is or the bucket is 16 to 17 years old and what they do on this is they do certain things like have the default for videos to be downloaded set to off but you can change those the defaults for duetting and stitching is defaulted to only friends but you can change that to everyone but the biggest kind of change most of the you know in the january change is that any users aged basically 13 to 15 so if you're under 16 years old your account is defaulted to private and you cannot change that however there's one recommendation i have if you go into tick tock here and you tap on me at the bottom right and then the three dots at the top right you can scroll down and you can go to report a problem and then you can see right under frequently asked questions the very last option is privacy settings are stricter you can go to that and we'll talk a little bit about this january update you can say is the problem resolved no still have a problem and then you can basically type in here so a lot of people have created tick tock accounts they just create a random age don't even think about it and they set their age to say you know 14 when they're really 20. so in this you can basically explain that you know your your true birth date should allow you to do all these different things i would always recommend offering to you know send them or email them a copy or your photo of your government id so if you have an id or something that shows your age send that to them so they can verify it and then they should be able to change your age into talk and you know kind of release those restrictions hope this helps let us know if you have any questions in the comments below make sure to subscribe thanks
