greetings church i'm hoping that everything is going well with you as i'm speaking to you right now and may god bless you as you know i'm here to do a quick summary of what pastor george talked about last week which is repentance which is a central doctrine of christ the thing that i want to leave with you is the definition of repentance which is simply just means change of mind change of attitude and even change of heart and that right then is the definition for repentance a quick short explanation that i want to leave with you is uh that biblical repentance is specific there are many things you can repent um many reasons for you to repent logical reasons some health reasons some even family reasons which are very logical and if that's the case you should change however biblical repentance is specific it's you changing specifically and primarily for god that is the main difference of biblical repentance versus just repentance in general now there are repentance for the nonverbal there's a repentance for the non-believer but there's also repentance for the believer the repentance from non-believer is to repent from dead works which is the bible called dead works of rebellion towards god to change basically the lifestyle of rebellion that they once had before they come to know about the knowledge of god through jesus christ such as maybe they will form a gang member maybe a former drug dealer maybe a former prostitute or addict and so much other things that could be put in that space where they were a former and they repented change not for any other reason but primarily specifically for god that's the repentance for non-believers but the repentance for believers now is more of a lifestyle of repentance meaning that they're always ready to repent if anything new shows up in their life that they know is not pleasing to god they're ready to change it specifically and primarily for god um quick food for thought in eastern part in the eastern part of europe the way that they identify christians is as repenters whereas here in america we identify christians as believers both are right we are as believers we are both repenters and believers as a lifestyle in fact the bible encourages us encourages us to grow from faith to faith from one level believing to another level of believing that change that growth is also a part of that repentance and i want to leave with you two scriptures that talk about repentance the first one is proverbs 28 13 which says whoever hides their sins does not prosper with god but the one who confesses their sins and renounces it this person finds mercy with god another verse which is first john chapter one verse nine it says if we confess our sins he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness so you can know without a shadow of a doubt that your repentance would never go in vain when it comes to god if you're willing to repent god will be willing to step into your life and you will have a prosperous relationship with god due to that repentance thank you very much and now church let us welcome pastor george defeat good afternoon good evening and good morning to all we're glad that you be with us today in the name of jesus and we are gathering in order to hear god's word by his holy spirit we're gonna ask that he give us the knowledge the understanding and the wisdom of his word so that we could progress in life and in our calling in god father in the name of jesus we thank you and we bless you for your word we acknowledge you are the provider of all good things and we acknowledge you are the one that give us your spirit and your anointing to hear to understand and to speak by your will lord god let it be even right now in jesus name amen our subject has been repentance a doctrine of christ in hebrew chapter 6 verse 1 and 2 there is a list of the doctrine of christ the bible talks about the element the basic and what we could even identify as fundational doctrines of christ now it is written number one repentance from that work number two it talks about the doctrine of and that by the way this is uh very important faith towards god and he talks about number three doctrine of baptism then we go into the laying of a hand that's the fourth doctrine and then we go into resurrection of the dead and finally we come into final judgment these are the basic doctrine of christ and that's what he's been preaching teaching and talking about short scriptures we will see that but as jesus started to speak or to preach and he said this we studied that before it's in mark chapter one and the verses is verse 14 but this is what he said repent for the kingdom of god is at hand now we cannot do everything that was done previously because we are dealing with our third installment on the subject but let me quickly mention this when we're talking about repentance we're talking about the great all the fundamental or the initial repentance that take place by accepting the doctrine of jesus christ of repentance for salvation in other words we went to this and i'm gonna just succinctly mention it adam sin sin came into the world and through sin came death now you talking about three type of deaths in the bible number one there is a spiritual death where men's spirit becomes alienated from god and there is also uh there that has to do with the physical being that is to say the body dies the spirit and the soul leave the body and there is a third that has to do with going to hell and going into eternity that's a death that is not just problematic but awful because this is when for eternity men and god will be separated now god from the beginning provided a way for men to be saved now if you check in chapter 3 verse 15 of the book of genesis you realize this talking to eve or to the woman god said this your seed the seed of the woman will cross the head of satan all of the serpent now remember that but the serpent will bruise his heel now this is what we call the evangelism from the get-go in other words that's the gospel now they talk about pre-figuration of the gospel let's think of it that way jesus christ will crush the power of satan that's the serpent in other words the power of death but the serpent will bruise his heel the bruising has to do with the temporary death of jesus christ for three days however what i want you to remember and to see is the following the death of jesus christ provided the ramson for sin what you gotta remember also is this jesus christ by his birth from a virgin was not born with sin we talked about that that sin enter into the world by one mind we did go to chapter five of the book of and two sin that came in that reign but one thing you gotta remember is this jesus christ never sinned so he could not have been remember kept in death because the ransom of sin or the payment for sin is death so jesus that never sinned did not know what death would be except for us so it took upon himself our sin and then since the tribunal of heaven declare that he was righteous so he had to come out from the grave now this is important for me to mention to you as we move ahead there is that repentance from adam sin that's for every human being no matter where you from no matter if you're jews or non-jews no matter what your race is and i could go on remember that part jesus died for everybody that include the catholic the protestant the muslim the hindu the vodou practitioner and you name it he died for all the human race however it's important for you to understand the repentance i'm talking about here it is called the initial repentance that's for everybody but once you repent you become a christian now i'm gonna have to explain a little bit more about this area now as i go into chapter 17 now of the book of acts the bible makes it clear truly these times of ignorance of god god overlooked but now god commands all man everywhere to be paid because he has appointed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he has ordained he has given assurance of this to all by raising him from the dead you see the resurrection of christ is the singular particular very very significant event that took place in this world jesus rose from the dead with a perfect glorified body you see they've been resurrection before but not with the glorified body jesus christ was raised from the dead has risen from the dead rose from the dead with a glorified body in other words a body that's not mortal a body that is not corruptable a body that has no weakness in it but that body is by the holy spirit functioning so as i said this to you you got to understand god has ordained for all man to repent and in righteousness he's gonna judge the world by the man whom he has ordained now that is jesus christ that's important because you see what happened to us is this and when i say to us i'm talking to humanity we have to repent from adam's rebellion from adam's sin i'm gonna say a couple of things that will help us okay the word we paint again means to change your mind to turn back to god in the old testament and in the new testament it is the same meaning you could read that in chapter 55 of isaiah and you could read that in chapter 3 of the book of ezekiel you realize god always asks for repentance in the book of judges the people will disobey the law we do the one thing and guess what they come unto judgment once they repainted the judgment was taken away and the church came up and of course set them free now my point to you is not complicated it's very simple you repent you come out on the judgment i'd like you to see this the whole world has been judged because of adam's sin that's right guess what happened god preached true noah for people to change but they would not change so judgment come the whole world perish but accept eight that belief now i'd like you to please understanding this thing because it's important today people will say well there is no jesus coming back because after all uh it's been whatever so thousand years two thousand years and so on so forth not understanding god is not limited in time god has no enclave no braces no hindrance because of time god leaving eternity but god gave time for men to repent i hope now you start understanding this now the repentance from that work is the true repentance that god and christ are asking for the repainting has to do with turn away from sin turn away from your rebellion and turn away from the way you are conducting yourself but remember repentance start in the mind there comes the issue men sin but i'd like you to understand what it is it's an attitude of rebellion against god and guess what that attitude inside that predisposition inside come out expresses itself by acts of disobedience in other words if god said do this and somebody will say i'm going to do the contrary if god will say do that i'm going to do the contrary what happened submission is not there now let me explain a couple of things please understanding it these are concepts that are very important number one obedience is what you do that's right but you could do certain things without faith and without faith is impossible to please god it's not obedience without understanding god requires something a little bit more than that it required the change of mine and guess what it required a change of heart this is the thing submission is the right condition for obedience if one is not submitting to the gospel guess what happened they're gonna be issues in rebellions there's gonna be issues for rebellion as i read this for you please understanding it's not the word of a man it's the word of the living god in chapter two we're gonna read this okay let's go in chapter one rather of first peter i want you to see this okay because what's going on is this there is a hard submission that has to take place many people go and get baptized others couldn't could become church members but are the true christian you see what i'm saying have they repented now what happened is that down the road people realize hey there is no repentance there because there is no fruit of repentance as i read this for you please understand the principle and the principle is this one this is what the bible talks about verse 22 chapter one of first peter it says this that verse is verse 22 of chapter one it's good to have your own bible and to follow with us okay praise the lord now it says this that verse since you have purified your soul in obeying the truth through the spirit in sincere love of the brethren love one another fervently with a pure heart now let me explain this the word is saying purify your soul you realize he doesn't say your body do you realize he doesn't say your spirit let me read it again okay and we are in verse 22. let's read it again since you have purified your soul how in obeying the truth got it obedience is from the inside now what happened is this and please listen listen that will help did you obey the truth is the question what is the truth it has to do with the gospel since you have purified your soul in obeying the truth you see the obedience through the spirit insincere love of the brethren love one another fervently with a pure heart and he continuing he says having been born again not of corruptible seed but incorruptible to the word of god which sleeves and abides forever in other words through the gospel that's right jesus died for our sin he was buried and he rose again on the third day that's the gospel so what is it you are obedient to you obedient to understanding through the gospel by the spirit of god you are a sinner that's right the bible make it clear when the holy spirit come it's going to convince the world of three things sin that's right you're convinced of sin number two righteousness how god give righteousness how god declared that you are just and number three judgment that's right as you understanding these things you will see that's what changes people's mind having been born again not of comfortable seed but uncorruptable through the word of god which leave and abides forever now that's a mouthful that's a whole lot of understanding right there so when people receive the word of god when you receive the gospel there is a purification that takes place because you become obedient to the word of god okay now comes the story your spirit man become born again because you said yes to the gospel as we move and understanding this verse 24 of first peter he says this because all flesh is as grass in all the glory of man as the flower of the glass as the flower of the grass the grass reads and its flower falls away but the word of the lord endure it forever now listen this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you in other words you see when you receive the gospel you receive the word and when you receive the word you obey you submit to it that's repentance now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you as we continue we read therefore laying yourself all malays and all this seed you see once you are born again then you move into the next phase now i'm gonna talk to you in a way that for you to understand you see as you are born again you are obedient to the gospel you are obedient to the word of god and this is how come again jesus said hey flesh is from flesh but spirit is from spirit and guess what he continued to say yeah you got to be born again of the word that is the water and of the spirit that is the holy spirit so you receive the word of god and the holy spirit does the work on the inside now having say that now this is what we call the initial repentance and everybody in their brother gonna have to go through that however for you and anybody else to repaint you have to change your mind why is it we have to change our mind now i'm going to go through quite a few scriptures here but we want to do it fast now first of all we're going to go to ephesians 2 and you got to understand why the changing of mind is important now as i go to chapter 2 we are dealing with verse 1 and you god he god made life you god made a life who are dead in trespasses and sin now you see the death is a spiritual death introspective and sin in which you once walk you once walk is talking to the efficient church the believers in which trespasses and sin you once walk according to the course of this world according to the prince of the power of the air you all know it's satan the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience in other words disobedience to god as we move we understand the following among whom also we all once conducted ourself you see how in the lusts of our flesh fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind and whereby nature children of wrath in other words we deserve judgment just as the others as we keep on reading we read the thing okay but god who is rich in mercy because of his great love with which he loved us what did he do even when we are dead in trespasses made us alive together with christ by grace you have been saved now the grace come with the receiving of the gospel by the holy spirit and guess what happened you are born again in the spirit man now it's important for us to pick it up okay but i'd like you to understand this a lot of people unfortunately gonna really stumble upon certain areas of the bible because they don't understand what repentance is repentance is not changing church that's right that's right now you know i was catholic i became a protestant i was a protestant i become a mormon i was a mormon i become you know this is not what it is and that's important for us to understand now as i go to the scripture we want to see verse 4 again ephesians chapter 2 verse 4 but god who is rich in mercy because of his great love which we love us what he did he provided a way for us to get out of our trespasses that's the gospel now as i study these things i have to realize with you the following in verse two we're gonna read it please again read it with me we once walk according to the course of the squirrel you know what that means according to the way this world think according to the press of the power of the air according to satan according to the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience now do you really understand that there is a mind set that has to be changed in other for us to move into god's kingdom now i'm gonna read a little bit the same thing in chapter four of ephesians and as we read this i'd like you to pick it up because this is one thing that will enlighten our mind and give us wisdom and understanding of god's doing in this word that we're going to read for you we started with verse 17 chapter 4 verse 17 of ephesians paul by the holy spirit saying this i say therefore and testify in the lord that you should no longer walk remember the word walk as the rest of the gentile now is talking to christian as the rest of the gentile walk in futility of their mind now i'm gonna stay there and talk a little bit about it this is for christian yes this is not the initial repentance this is according to god's ways of doing things do you know most people they don't know that they walk in the futility of their mind that's the way the gentiles were that's the way the non-christian was the person that is not born again now how does it work how does he walk in the futility of their mind you know what futility means in other words it doesn't really give any positive result its futility is futile it's not productive to good but in the futility of their mind and keep on reading with me go ahead having their understanding darkened being alienated from the life of god because of the ignorance that is in them because of the blindness in their heart do you know what happened that's the way the pagan is but it's important for you to pick it up when the gospel come the person get converted but after that that person got a work in a different area that is the mind how does god think now i'm going to say a couple of things repentance from the start you are serving voodoo god you are serving the flesh you are serving some spirit somewhere uh you gotta repaint there is only one true god he created even the net and there is only one mediator between god and man that is the man jesus christ that's where you gotta be now that's the initial repentance but once you have that initial repentance taking place now comes the rest of your life as a lifestyle repenting that's right because you see your understanding was darkened you were alienated from the life of god you are ignorant of what god's purpose will is and your mind was blind now this is the key please follow this in our vernacular we're gonna see it this way you wear dumb that's right and you were being led to dumb idols stupid things foolish things now i'm gonna say a couple of things here once you come to christ you're going to have understanding and you're going to have light you're no longer going to walk in ignorance but you're going to walk into the light let me say this to you repentance for some is not easy because you see the understanding you had before you have to let go let me go and explain a couple of things i'm going to take three areas number one the religious area number two the social area number three the spiritual area you ready number one religious area do you know most people have a lot of religious practices that are not not based on the word of god it's from satan that's right think of it this way you are consulting for the priest you are consulting the psychic power so-called you are concerning a seer you are consulting and so on and then you think it is of god you are conserving the astrology you are consulting are you with me so far and guess what there are so many religious practices that is not from god but it's from religion and this is where people that don't understand they're gonna say well pastor you're preaching hate well let me explain this how do you get people to have peace you put some needle in their arm you put some needle in their head and then you think well we're gonna do this we're gonna control the what yeah we're going to control the sheet or the key and then you're going to please well all you need is the prince of peace that's jesus but again you have to know the difference people do things when they are sick and they go into that religious thing some rituals some uh chicken cutting ahead of the chicken some blood and guess what they are not but can i say this once you become a christian you got to cut it off you got to know how to believe god for your healing are you wrong with me yes you see the religion that you had before it continued now i'm gonna go into these parenthesis because we are talking about practices religious practices a lot of people believe has to do with religion some people believe there is a seven heaven it's not in your bible there is no seven heaven but when you come with this oh yeah i thought you see you thought wrong because this is for muslim this is not from the bible this is from the quran see what happened is this you're going to have seven into a virgin when you die if you do jihad now these are beliefs that are not based upon anything but religious beliefs that are not quote unquote biblical now let me keep on going with this you have a lot of superstition you know some people don't walk under the yeah you all remember this oh no when was this kid done oh friday the 13 oh this is bad love why exactly you are alienated from the life of god by these beliefs that's that's religion social there's a lot of that okay i'm gonna kind of give three quickly here listen if you want to get married guess what you do you just go into social parties you gotta go to the dance okay either men or women you'll pick up somebody there okay now some of the people gonna say if you wanna get married you want people to be interested in you in terms of husband and what okay you got to show your legs and then people go into doing these things you got to dress fancy you got to be sexy you got to be this you got to be dead but guess what happened usually you end up with lustful people and that's exactly what you're doing but god has a husband god has a wife but it has to be his doing not your doing now there's a whole lot of things to be cheat to be taught about this we're gonna go to the next thing now how do you call your kid yeah we're gonna call him clock why because we watch superman yeah yeah see we don't have any understanding of these things unfortunately but if you see the pattern you will see god said to call jesus jesus god said to call john the baptist john though they had their own tradition as the jewish people but guess what god has his own name to give and to assign do you realize socially people tell you if you are not married if you don't have kids if you are not if you you know if you don't have a job you know they give you a lot of things to carry on but where do these things come from from the world socially i could stay here until next month to give you example people become doctors not because they have the calling to be a doctor because they were manipulated by their society by their parents because if you are not a doctor guess what you don't have the approbation of others and this we could go on and on and on the other thing is this even into religious or spiritual stuff and that's the last thing i'm gonna see with you do you know some people believe they have to be freemason or they have to be was a christian or they have to have something in order to protect themselves and they go into some ritual they go into some ceremony and then they so-called give them some protection yeah i hope you're understanding this having their understanding darken you christian that's not the way to go so the word of god will help us changing our mind so the way we used to walk before what we used to do then we change do i make sense to you by the way for you that are listening you just have the right understanding of sanctification sanctification is not dressing up with white robe long over there no that's not what it is sanctification is not having either rings or earrings that's not what it is people have not understood this and guess what religious people will have you do things that are enormous including not to get married because you're going to serve the lord no it's not the way it is it has to be god's calling and a special gift as i study these things with you we're going to continue next time and you will see a lot of things people think that are spiritual it's actually from the devil we're stopping here today it's a short one but by god's grace you'll pick it up remember pagan non-believers before you become a christian big repentance or initial repentance but after you become a christian you're gonna have to repent of the way you used to think and this is important because this is where you sanctify your mind you sanctify yourself and guess what happened you will
