and outs pros and cons and how you the artists a musician can go about trying to get one sorry I'm going to talk about my experience and how I went through because literally I went through every step to get where I am today with my current companies sorry first level is what we call a shop endorsement so I'm gonna get straight to the point here shop endorsement you buy from there you send all your students there you recommend other drummers or musicians to go there and they give you an ongoing discount to say I don't know 3% off that's just a round figure kind of keeping it loose kind of thing so lay that shop goes well you're looking after us by seeing us you know students and musicians and you're emptying your bank account having my kids go through college and in return we're going to give you a discount so that's kind of your first entry level kind of endorsement and then that's how I started then it went off to that store saying do you want us to contact that brand of drums on your behalf and see if you only become an artist I was like absolutely not a problem at all so people think oh yes you made a phone call they sent you the contract you signed it and that was it no no it took like 10 years of buying gear and buying that one brand of drum and one brand of hardware and cymbals and etc and you still have to fill out an application form so it's not like someone makes a phone call and says hey you're doing it you don't have this guy on your poster yeah sure no I this is done not like you still go to a certification process and then it has to get reviewed through the artist relations manager and if you go through a distributor like we have in Australia then it has to go to head office in that country so it's not like an overnight thing sometimes it can be though if you're really up there with you know the big weeks so I like to take it on as an artist and it wasn't you know that Brainerd I'm saying are what can we do him well what can we do for you what can we do for this artist its what okay we backing what can he offer us as a company so I was touring gigging recording and whenever someone took a photo a video is playing the brain of drums people are seeing what what's the best drum kit on the planet say it was this you know it's all about you know looking after the company who's looking after you so the whole pattern the back kind of thing so I looked after you know this one brand of drums I looked after me I didn't have any symbol deals really I didn't any head deals stick deals I just had drums hardware and some other bits and pieces and I stayed that way for until 2014 early 2015 I went to nan now if you know what Nami's name is like 500 million people in a room because that's what it feels like I forgot four days of loud banging and epic hangs of epic friends and some gear involved in somewhere in there as well so I went to name and I was invited to go to the opening of the DW room which means that you get to go in a little bit earlier and just check it out before but swarm of people going well it's a swarm it literally is it small and I walked in and there's John good now you have a badge like you water now you have a badge and it has your name on it so they know who you are and I walked in there and he said hi your Matthew must be Ritchie and why you know it's my name this is fantastic and he already knew what brand I was playing a lot this is we so don't even know who I am and you know what he knows that brand okay all right so massive all the drums like 50 tons of different colors sizes and hardware and it's like oh my god I could live here it's like heaven or Nirvana you and he took me to a wall and showed me this higher clutch sunlight it's a high-class dude like what what's the big deal he showed we were thousands actually the one types of classes am i okay how do I get one can I steal this can I have this one guy's I come home with me on what this is amazing I've come play some your drums the last couple of years and they're incredible and I really like the acrylic it i falling in love with his brain the lovely bunch of people what's happening you know show me some other things and i went into that room eight times a day for four days and when i say good microbiome a sunday I supervised giant so like a lot to come to affect it to if I can but I know it's late notice I can't do this you know I accept a draft Arizona have more hangs and more great friends and he said look hope see you next year and we would love to have you in the do W family oh yeah right got my car drive away so anyway couple weeks go past I get back to Sri Akal always go past and once they couples like three months why rain my friends at deed daddario who look after the companies which I endorse and I said I'm thinking about coming to DW it's there any chance I could get an application form because I like to you know come on board they put the phone on speakerphone right he called everybody into the office and said you know send again it's like how I was a phone ringing pocket and he's like you've been playing this one brand of twenty years and now you want to come across a lot well yeah I think there's things I can do for the company the brand especially I feel it's the right time to move I feel it's it felt I wanted to felt great as positive was with the positive company yeah a forward-thinking company or so I can't think anybody other anybody else I'd like to be with right now so they said come on down oh I can come down you know during the week and I did in great coffee we had lunch Chad I said what kind of kid do you want to play I'm like now really like the acrylic you I just there's something about it if it sounds great and they said great no I was like to have you on board my WoW is the fantastic sounds so quick and so easy but to go from that point of signing a deal to actually you know all the work beforehand it was like two years because go for one brand to another it is a very personal thing to do like I know some people like arms to stop playing this brand now see you later I'm not like that for me it's like I'm gonna move on to another brand now it's like leaving but you're ending a relationship to start a new one and there's a period of like I uncertainty of what do I do but when I went into name you know spoke to John gourd still knows my name and I do chat to him I was like it felt right I felt comfortable it felt good but even I had doubts about what I could offer the companies so remember we talked about the whole offering thing you know they might look after me but where am I really go can't offer them in there too so you know I approached them about separate I like to use on whatever and I said I don't want to do this YouTube channel I wanted basically refugee review dwar the hardware snare drums basically everything new model and whatnot now when I first saw with GW I wasn't playing in the United breaks there was no okay you're coming on board we want you to play this this and this no it's like no you're happy with DW drums we have been looking after you can you do a try some ever the heads I'm like yeah sure you know like a new sample park and bye-bye he's actually sound really good they felt great they look good they feel good they sound good I'm happy they're reliable that last a long time because you know a plane drives expensive no matter what you do I was like I would upon trying at some model symbols that's like yep cool no my eyes went down there got like true big cases of symbols try them out for a couple of months a lot yeah I'm diggin these and it's like yeah well that sticks it like up and kind of been playing the Todd Sugerman Pro mark for a while and it's just like yep no worries we get some in stock for years this is fantastic and then I went to back to name in 2016 as a DWI so they looked after me a lot and I try and do as much as I can to reciprocate the favor as much as possible now another thing is though you're probably thinking we see this channel you see that the sponsors that started me I got change out it was just a quick car that's really good other thing that I get all this gear for free everything you've seen every snare drum had cymbal I have painful I get looked after in a percentage why I mean I don't pay the full price but I still have to pay for it I don't get nothing for free they may say look this is a UV head humour sent over a prototype don't try it out absolutely but if I want a decade like hit with calf tone heads I actually still have to pay for it so every video you put up here I basically financially back so hence why we're now do the whole monetization thing because you know any money that is raised through videos goes straight back in the channel and we can do bigger and better things we hope when I say we it is myself and the sponsors so in short long story long really because it's got like 10 minutes here it's all about what you can do for the company and not what they can do for you I am lucky though I have some great companies back in me great companies back in this channel because they believe in something that I'm doing is is helping them obviously make their brand more aware to the public and to as worldwide so the benefits of endorsing contracts is they're fantastic they're great they are good the downside is they are very hard to get they're not as easy as making a phone call or an email and you get one so when you do get one feel privileged feel special about it yeah a company seeing something in you that they feel you could offer them and they're going to try and help out as much as possible in the best way possible that they could help you with your career so I am now going to finish up or water and I am going to
