the product when you first log into chart mogul you'll be directed to your overview dashboard think of this as a report card for your entire business by default this will show 12 metrics including M our our customer count M our breakdown and movements and air R however we understand that no two businesses are the same so this view is fully customizable you can rearrange the layout and add or remove metrics based on your priorities you can click on any of these charts and check out the underlying data we'll take a look at this shortly let's familiarize ourselves with the chart mogul navigation up top you'll see a search icon where you can look up any individual customer record next to that you'll see targets customizable goals you can set for your business as well as customer activities whenever there's an update you'll see those details here we also send out these updates as emails so that even when you're not in chart mogul you know what's happening with your business chart mogul gives you dozens of ways to analyze your business without requiring any technical expertise or the need to go through a data team let's check out the left-hand navigation in addition to the overview dashboard you have charts each metric that we track has a dedicated page here you can perform granular analysis and dig into the specific customer activities contributing to each metric customers this is a central repository for all your customer records we track all your leads active subscriptions pass to customers and sharing customers you can look at records in aggregate or analyze individual customers Maps charm uncle takes all your customer and revenue data and overlays it on a world map so you can easily spot Geographic trends cohort analysis analyze groups of customers to better understand patterns and retention and churn over time revenue recognition don't just use data to grow your business run more efficiently we organize your billing data and automate the process of generating deferred and recognized revenue schedules let's dig into the data I'm going to start with the metric that every subscription business cares deeply about monthly recurring revenue when we click on the charts icon the first thing you'll notice is that the left-hand navigation expands you can see that metrics are grouped into recurring revenue metrics leads and trials customers churn and cash flow okay so it looks like we're growing at a pretty good clip in fact if we click on show targets we can see that we're 90 percent toward hitting our quarterly goal what's happening in our business that's driving this growth when I scroll down you can see there's a data table which gives us charts some helpful context data is broken up into different categories new business m RR contraction mr churn m RR and reactivation mr r now it's easy to identify which types of activities are contributing to or holding back your top-line growth the green and red numbers in these cells refer to the number of customers feeding into these movements click on any number and you can see an activity log if you click on an individual entry you can view that customers record and check out key details including historical transactions we also offer the ability to apply filters to your metrics so you can perform deep analysis on your data chart mogul comes pre-loaded with dozens of filters like plan region m RR and currency you can also pipe in additional data with our enrichment API many of our customers use the API to add attributes like Net Promoter Score Marketing lead source sales rep and shirin reason now let's take a look at our M R by plan being able to filter by plan helps you evaluate how effective your pricing and packaging is you can easily see which plans are generating the most revenue and are tied with the highest customer lifetime value you can look at individual plans or create and apply plan groups such as all annual plants if you apply in multiple segments you can compare them directly you can customize the layout of the chart to me to visualize once you're happy with a segment you can save it for reuse this is great for when you apply multiple filters like gold plant subscribers located in the United States once a segment has been saved anyone in the company can access it and use it for their analyses let's move on to customers this is a breakdown of your entire business your annual and monthly subscribers past due and churn customers and leads you can basically manage your entire customer database in here with this view you can either search for a specific customer or using these column headers sort your entire customer based by attributes like m RR country status or subscriptions start date you can apply filters and segments to this view too so if you want to look at the gold plan again we can now see the full list of gold plan subscribers sales and customer success teams often use this view to track the next payment date for annual subscribers now they can easily generate an export a list of upcoming renewals and proactively work to make sure they stay on and potentially create upsell opportunities char bungle offers really robust customer profiles they feature core billing and contact details historical transactions and custom attributes you can also manually enter notes about the account or add tags that can be used for later analysis a lot of customers use this to capture churn reasons or feature requests if we scroll down a bit we can see their historical mr our current subscriptions and nem are our movements occasionally you may notice an error in this data that can be traced back to changes in the customer's billing perhaps there are once paying through stripe and migrated to another billing system as a result it could look like a customer has churned or reactivated or that there was a spike in payment activity unfortunately those errors then appear in your higher level metrics like company M RR and churn rate not good billing errors happen but they don't have to stay that way we're the only solution out there that lets you correct this information you can merge subscriptions or edit historical m RR to ensure your data is a hundred percent accurate below customers you'll see a map icon chart mogul takes all your customer and revenue data and overlays it on views here M are our customers average revenue per account average sale price customer churn rate and customer lifetime value let's click into ARPA the darker red indicates higher ARPA so now you have an at-a-glance view of the region's that might be more valuable just like with our other views you can apply segments and filters to receive increasingly granular insights one of the views our customers can't live without is cohort analysis a cohort is simply a group of people with a shared characteristic generally their subscriptions start date the default view is 12 months but you can expand it up to 60 months depending on the amount of historical data you've imported into chart mogul so we can see in June 2017 we had 29 new customers will adjust his filter here to reflect the data relative to the starting month the subsequent month we had one less customer but there was no churn activity in the same month they subscribed within the net mr archeron view we see churn varying over time in some cases you might even see a negative percentage point indicating there were more upgrades and/or reactivations than downgrades and/or churn in a certain period of time using this view you can also identify churn trends across various cohorts this serves as a jumping-off point to understand what events or actions might be contributing to churn and what you might be able to do to reduce that you can click on any of these cells to see the customer activity that contributed to the calculation the segment's also come into play here it's easy to see if customers with discounted plans are more prone to churn or maybe you're the head of marketing you can analyze a cohort analysis based on your marketing channels to understand which channels are bringing in customers that stick around
