the rv 10-year rule you've probably heard about it and it is a pain in the rear end to many rvers today we're going to talk about what the rule is why rv parks use it and how to scoot your way around description so enter if you want to learn more about rv education but today's video is all about the 10-year rule and what it is it's pretty easy to explain because the name says it all the 10-year rule means some rv parks do not allow trailers motorhomes whatever your rv is to get a reservation at the park if it is over 10 years old it's a huge problem among our beers because rvs are expensive and 10 years is not that old cars on the road of 10 years old look beautiful they're in good condition if they stay well maintained rvs are the same way so it's a little frustrating that this rule exists you probably have seen it more often than not in arizona or in florida two big states that use the rv 10-year rule usually the park will mention it on their website other times you got to ask on the phone when you're making the reservation but in rare cases you might not find out until you arrive at the rv park and that's when it is most troublesome whenever it comes to the rv tenure rule just be proactive look deep into their website see if it's in their policy section if you call them ask the person who's answering the phone if they do the rv tenure rule and monitor facebook groups or any other online forum for other rvers experiences at those certain rv parks it can either be somewhere like rv park reviews compendium a review site like that do rv parks allow exceptions to this rule hell yes almost every rv park who has the 10-year rule has exceptions for it it is one of the lamest rules in my opinion for that reason because it is really used so they can turn away people on a basis where they have total freedom and they can place that blame on the 10-year rule even though so many of these rv parks allow rvs over 10 years to come in on a regular basis i don't like the idea that the rule is so willy-nilly which to me it means it can be used to discriminate pretty easily if an rv park is using it for that purpose but whenever the rv park is using it for a legitimate purpose which is to keep out rvs that are not maintained which are probably more like 15 or 20 years old in these cases a lot of times you can send a picture to the rv park and uh they'll if your if your rv looks good they'll let you in but i've talked to rv park managers who have allowed an rv to come in based on a picture but even when the rv pulls in they say it does not look like the picture they have turned people away it there is way too much room for confusion quite honestly olivia and i have only traveled with rvs that are over 10 years old we've had to do this in a very rare occasion but really we have to ask ourselves in those situations every time why do we even want to stay at an rv park that doesn't want us or our beautifully renovated rv there very frustrating in these cases vintage trailers or renovated trailers classic trailers do have an upper hand because even though they're super old a lot of these rv parks see them as like luxurious or very nice because they've been renovated the problems are whenever you have a really old class a or just a rip like an 80s travel trailer this is whenever an rv park will be quick to deny you so we surveyed over a thousand rvers and got their opinion on the 10-year rule and this is what they had to say without a doubt rvers hate the 10-year rule 88 of those rvs that we surveyed do not approve of the 10-year rule so why do rv parks use the 10-year rule it's really just a baseline so they can say our rv park looks nice we don't have any junky rvs here and the other reason why rv parks use it is because they say it limits the potential for leaks to happen or any other maintenance issues with rvs getting stuck at the park both of those reasons seem a little far stretched i would love to hear what you have to think about
