The BEST Decision We Made

What do you like best?

We were previously using an all-paper hiring and on-boarding method. We switched all those documents over to Sign Now, and our whole process is so much easier and smoother. We have 7 terminals in 3 states so being all-paper was cumbersome and, frankly, silly. We've removed so much of the burden from our terminal managers so they can do what they do: manage the business.

Easy to use, increases productivity

Erin Jones

What do you like best?

I love that I can complete signatures and documents from the phone app in addition to using my desktop. As a busy administrator, this speeds up productivity . I find the interface very easy and clear, a big win for our office. We have improved engagement with our families , and increased dramatically the amount of crucial signatures needed for our program. I have not heard any complaints that the interface is difficult or confusing, instead have heard feedback that it is easy to use. Most importantly is the ability to sign on mobile phone, this has been a game changer for us.

Signature service animal shelter volunteer application

why this road why here why then what happened all those questions they don't mean anything when you think about will your child ever walk through the door again that was kent landry father of missing person jason landry talking about the hardships that every family that has a missing loved one faces but kent and his family are facing a lot more with all of this some people are saying that perhaps law enforcement early on in the investigation could have done more maybe they've let them down a little bit but kent is flat out calling out the media and one particular piece of information that is turning the conversation at least in this social media space in a whole different direction and to be perfectly honest with you guys i don't know if it's helpful to this case at all we're going to try to get to the facts here we're going to go through all the articles as we usually do but i'm also going to call out some of kent's concerns as we're going through this stuff as well and i hope that i could bring some more balanced coverage you know we're not looking for a clickbaity title here because i've got you amazing people let's see if we can help this family it's time to turn on the searchlight for jason landry [Music] welcome back to brain scratch searchlight i'm john lorden thank you so much for joining us here today and just in case you missed the previous videos searchlight now happening every other friday regular brain scratches will happen on the fridays in between so if you're wondering why the schedule looks a little bit different that's how we're going for the immediate future that might change we'll see we've got some other show ideas and things that we're working on here at lord and arts but let's get into today's case this is one of those where we have a vehicle it looks like there's an accident vehicle is left behind but the person goes missing it's a really tough case reminds me a little bit of the brandon lawson case of course uh people will probably also compare it to the maura murray case these are some of the biggest mysteries that we have that we're looking into constantly just throwing new theories at it new ideas because it seemingly doesn't make sense especially when you have very strong search efforts that are going on for the missing person as we've had in all of the cases that i just mentioned but let's go ahead and get into the details and see what we can learn here starting with namus and the first thing i want to point out i know a lot of people are talking about this photo in particular that's been posted at namus this is the most recent photograph that they were able to find of jason landry and if you compare that photo to even the one that's under me right now you're going to say wow you know pretty significant difference looks like his face has thinned out considerably you know he's growing his hair out a little bit longer he's a college student and i know a lot of us go through changes when we get to that point in life and some of us decide to grow our hair out try different facial hair all kinds of other stuff so i just want to point out there's there is some talk about narcotics around this case that's one of the points i don't know if it's really as big of a deal as a lot of people are trying to drive towards we we have to temper the balance of the information and how it lines up with the other existing information and i just don't see any potential narcotic connection being a very strong one here but i'm going to present the information to you guys and you know we'll let you take it from there in terms of the conversation down in the comments but jason david landry a white caucasian male date of last contact december 13 2020 missing from luling texas at the age of 21 years old he stands at six foot one one weighs around 170 pounds and date of last contact they do have it listed as december 13th pretty late in the day december 13th is a sunday and apparently he goes to drive home from college he's got about a three hour drive or so home and somehow it seems like he takes maybe a wrong turn or a missed turn and winds up in an area that is off of his path it's kind of going north when he really should be going east so a lot of questions around that already circumstances of disappearance jason's nissan altima which was a 2003 we're going to see a few photos of it as we're going through this today was found sunday december 13th just outside of luling it had been crashed and abandoned on a road luling is about 30 minutes away from san marcos where texas state university is located uh and salt flat road is the name of the road that his vehicle is found on one of the other things that's really kind of tough to understand about this case is there's despite the fact this is a rural area there seems to be regular enough traffic that they've kind of pinpointed the time frame pretty strongly they said that someone drove by somewhere around 11 11 30 that night did not see the accident and then you have a volunteer firefighter who's coming back from a call not related to this incident that finds the car and that happens somewhere around 12 30 a.m so we've got a pretty tight window of one hour which in terms of having a missing person and having jason seemingly just disappear from the planet is just mind-boggling how does it happen if he would have stayed with the vehicle i mean at most he would have waited an hour and it seems like probably a lot less than that and there's many other things we have to get to that are really hard to understand about it brown hair they're saying possible beard um and i don't know if they filled that in before they got this photo and then they updated this photo but we can see it's kind of a goatee that he has in this photo brown eyes does wear glasses as we're seeing in the photo down below um i don't know if he was wearing them during this drive i don't know if he wears contact lenses also for scars or marks they're saying on his ankle um possibly the right ankle there's a scar they're also saying he had a lymph node removed from his neck on the right side and then he does have some light acne scarring on his face you could see it just a little bit in this photo here clothing and accessories they don't know transportation we do know about the car like i said we're going to see pictures of it but they didn't enter it here for other images and documents i think they've just got yeah several photos of him kind of throughout the years and then a little map photo but we're we're going to jump to a map where i'll take you through all the critical areas uh luling texas is a city in caldwell and guadalupe counties among the uh or along the san marcos river the population as of the 2010 census was 5411 people and it looks like there's a lot of space out there so here a quick overview of the map we can see we've got texas state university just a little north and east of san antonio salt flat road this is the location where the vehicle would be found and he's heading home um i've heard it referred to as either sienna or missouri city i've kind of seen it both ways but he's basically heading just a little south and west of houston as you can see for the majority of this drive he's on the tent but getting to the 10 is that first little stretch and i think that's possibly uh where a mistake might have been made we can see this kind of um the 80 that he's taking to get down to the 10 is where we have the turn off for the salt flat road and that seems to be where he wound up so let's jump to google earth so we can take a look at a few of the key locations and i want to give a very big thank you to ed dentzel from the unfound podcast he covered this case and i've seen some other articles kind of refer to a simple mistake that could have happened in this drive but no one really described it as strongly as ed and simply as ed so i just want to thank him for that we're going to take a look at the point that he raised as we're looking through this of course if you want to check out his coverage i'll have a link to that in the description box down below but we're starting at texas state university san marcos which we can see here and then you remember the map he's got to take that route to get to the 10. now that route actually winds up on a street called east austin and we believe this is probably where that turn got missed so you can see from the top down view already kind of a strange little intersection that's going on here but it's really when we get down to the street level and you're approaching this keep in mind this is night time i do see a street light here so this is a lit area but this is where he probably should have made a right turn to get to where the tent is however if you continue straight this road here that you would wind up on spruce avenue actually eventually leads to salt flat road if you just take this and continue it north now what's interesting about that and another thing that people talk about a lot of people are wondering was he under the influence of something and that could be anything but on this drive it's not exactly a straight drive from there you can see there is a lot of straight but there's also some very curvy roads that happen right in the middle of it he cleared all this he got through this no problem what's interesting is close to the accident scene it once again straightens out and really these are there are no very serious turns at this point and that brings us to the actual scene of the accident here so what we do notice is this is a gravel road at this point uh the pavement stops a couple miles back from here and i don't know some people might say was that an indicator to him that maybe he was going the wrong direction uh according to some of the articles his father is assuming that this might have been a navigation error that he might be using waze and perhaps for some reason it gave him the wrong instructions or or something along those lines happened i haven't had personally such a critical failure with waze uh what i have had personally as a critical failure is me assuming that i know where i'm going and either not having the volume for waze turned up high enough or not having it in my view to actually keep tabs on the directions that i should be using so it could be that we we possibly have something like that happening but uh he does wind up out here and we have some photos there's a video that i'll have also in the links down below which does show the scene of the accident kind of how it looks around the time this is the car and you can see it's it's a pretty serious accident and one of the things i was really confused about when i first started looking into this case was the back end of the car taking so much damage does look like the rear window was broken i believe on the initial impact but unfortunately we don't have a strong shot of the front of the car but i can see the front of the car took a considerable amount of damage as well driver side mirror is missing we can see there's some scraping that's happening close to the front of the driver's door some other damage along the side as well but really that back and that front took a significant hit and we're gonna find some reasonable explanations for that but i gotta tell you guys when i first saw this i was like this is this seems like a multi-car accident uh even if he drives off the road and he hits a tree what hits him you know i mean if he hits the tree on the front here what comes up behind him and hits the back we're going to get a better explanation to understand that but there's also a video i'll have down below that shows the area there's a reporter that got out there just within a few days as a matter of fact she's noting in this video that the tracks are still fresh no tire marks leading all the way over here to this tree that jason hit so um and there we we have a the tree there's a webs luther that has also taken a photograph of the tree recently it looks like a cross has been put on the tree so here's another angle of it there's still pieces of the car literally around the bottom of the tree here we can see i don't know if it's a branch from that tree but there's a piece of wood that has just been completely shattered here it might be possibly an old post for this barbed wire fence or it might just be a branch but took a pretty decent amount of force to just to snap it in in that manner so what do the articles say uh let's start at the beginning texas state students still missing vehicle found off salt flat road in luling this is from december 14 jason landry has been missing after a single car accident so the news from the press right off the bat uh no signs that there's another car involved in this and despite when i first started looking at this and seeing that picture of me thinking oh my god there has to be another vehicle here i zoomed in on this all kinds of different ways and and what i noticed was i'm not seeing anything that i would consider paint transfer particularly on the rear here and i'm seeing a very interesting shape right here which i believe is where the trunk made direct contact with that tree and the tree left its shape basically in what would be the spoiler on the trunk some people do think that the scraping up here on the side here could be some type of paint transfer i haven't seen a good enough picture to say if that's true or not but seeing white marks on this kind of color of a car when it's been scraped against wood i can't necessarily say that that would be paint transfer and i'd like to think that the authorities would have noted something like that and we would have had that come out in the media we've had nothing like that they've been very strong about the fact they believe this is a single car accident troopers found that the car had been involved in a crash but there was no driver around the vehicle seemed to have gone off the roadway and struck something continuing at kxan.com some people have asked could it be possible jason could be hiding or scared because he wrecked the car his father kent said i can't imagine that would be true kent has a message for his son if it is true don't worry about that the car is just a stupid car we love you call someone call the police come home we just want you home it's kind of hard for me to believe that that would be going on that he was afraid of you know the damage that he had done to the car this is a 2003 car i mean we're coming up on it being 20 years old i'm sure the blue book on it is only a maybe a few thousand dollars i don't think this is that type of thing now another consideration is if he was under the influence of something could he be afraid of being caught on that and that seems to be a frequent occurrence in cases that kind of look like this vehicle is found person is missing but you know the next day they find the person at home and um they you know kind of come to the assumption that they were probably uh driving under the influence and didn't want to be caught at the time even locals have been looking for jason it's thousands of acres and today i'm searching as close to the roads as possible neighbor stuart carter said uh sergeant dion cockrell with texas dps said they're concentrating on particular areas in their search we're still concentrating on areas like the creeks and the water cockrell said but as of right now we haven't found him and here we are over a month later we still haven't found him uh just doing a quick look at the map for you can see we've got sprinkle sprinkled kind of water sources a lot of ponds in this area i know they've drained one pond in particular close to the accident area already but there are a lot of water sources out here another very unfortunate aspect is despite what you think of texas they were kind of having a cold snap at this point and the weather what whether they're pretty tough minimum temperature 49 degrees and of course any time you get under 70 degrees hypothermia becomes a very real factor so that's something that we're very concerned of with this case as well jumping over to fox 7 the search for jason landry increased in size and urgency on tuesday teams made up of local authorities as well as equisearch i don't know why but i always feel a little bit better about the world whenever i hear of texas aqua search helping in these efforts they focused on a remote area northeast of luling much of it around a large oil field that dates back to the 1920s this is another thing we've got a lot of different kind of rural industries that i'm seeing out there a lot of what look like farm houses or treatment plants of some kind i'm worried about you know the potential for those types of environments to come into play with a case like this because especially in the middle of the night if if he's hurt in this accident looking towards the next source of light let's say to try to find some help he might have come across an industrial service out there it's actually kind of more likely that he would have come across an industrial service rather than a home there are a few homes in that area the few that are closest to the accident from what i'm seeing are deserted or not occupied most of the year at a minimum there are homes further basically where he came from if he did indeed make that kind of um incorrect non-turn and went straight through that intersection i mean you saw that area there's houses all around that but uh it looks like his accident is about five miles north of that so very considerable walk and especially not knowing what type of injuries he sustained we'll get a sense as we go into the articles here what the authorities think about that though it's a place where someone could easily get lost according to felix cortinas who has a deer lease nearby just wanted to stop there for a moment uh dear i personally live in an area where we see deer around here occasionally as well and when they come flying across a street uh that that certainly gives you a lot of cause for concern hitting the brakes pulling on the steering wheel could something like that have led to the accident i think is certainly a very strong consideration but back to felix's comment a lot of old wells salt water disposal old wells that were never even capped or cemented just holes and a lot of creeks a lot of steep banks so already just in terms of search efforts it sounds like it's risky and possibly dangerous but outside of that middle of the night injured in what effectively looks to me like a two collision crash there there was there was two impacts that happened uh could there possibly be a concussion that he's dealing with and all this there's just there's a lot of factors here family members believe it's possible a malfunctioning traffic app caused a rerouting of his navigational system and that's why he ended up so far off track i don't know why my son was down this road my best guess he will follow waze wherever it sends him he was coming home from college but he was here on this road and i don't know if he was trying to avoid a deer or what swerved and hit some trees on the side says jason's father kent landry it's easy to miss where jason's car left the gravel road it ended up in a ditch along a fence and tree line some of his clothing however was found near the scene along the roadway now i don't know if they're talking about clothing that he was actually wearing at the time of the accident stumbles out of the car and then removes some of it and drops it at the roadway uh or as a result of the accident did he have some clothes that were loose in the car that back window blows out some of the cars get thrown in a direction we really have no detail in terms of any of that but we do know some clothing found along the roadway we're gonna hear there's some other items found as well we know he got out of the crash okay and was walking back this way and that's the last we know for sure said kent landry um so yeah law enforcement also commenting they basically believed that any injuries he sustained were not significant obviously not significant to the point where they incapacitated him because we would have found him but they actually think the injuries could have been relatively light dogs tracked ascent indicating jason was walking back towards luling after about a quarter of a mile the trail disappeared right now we have no indication of any foul play at all and we don't know if maybe somebody picked him up or if he just wandered to an area where we haven't searched or found yet said sergeant dion cockerell the car was towed to a holding lot in luling investigators say the damage does not indicate jason was intentionally forced off the road it also states they did find a small amount of blood inside and some personal items including his phone now that's a very strange aspect but we've got so many considerations when it comes to this case it's like the the simple things that you would assume just aren't always at play uh if i'm in an accident first item i'm looking for is my phone i mean before i'm even getting out of the vehicle where is that phone i need to call someone i need to call for help i need to have it even if i'm considering leaving the vehicle of course is my phone in service if it's not in service let me bring it because it's likely to be in service before i find someone but for some reason the phone gets left behind now consider this in a collision like that hit a tree spun hit another tree um that phone if it was in a cup holder or something probably went flying could have wound up under a seat i mean who knows where it could have been a bit more difficult to find than we're assuming but the keys also left behind so phone and keys left in the car uh very strange and by one report in particular they're also saying that the car was left locked i don't know if that particular model model of ultima has some type of auto locking feature i know some cars have certain parts of the door that you touch and that will lock the the doors inside i don't know if it has any features like that i would think probably not for a 2003 so kind of an interesting thought that for some reason the car is locked not to mention the back of the window looks like it was blown out in the accident admittedly that could have been something that was done in the effort of them removing the vehicle from where it was i don't know if they would have just like smashed the back window like that for no reason though and the amount of force that i'm seeing in that photo that caused that damage to that trunk in that manner i think was probably enough to smash that window i think what probably happened is the trunk taking all that force dislodged from its area and could have moved towards the window until the window broke that would just be my guess um but car being locked i don't know whatever this car went through it it was significant and i'm kind of surprised at the assumption that um outside of the fact like i said if he was severely incapacitated they would have found him i'm kind of surprised they're saying well he definitely survived this he walked away on his own and we just don't know what happened from there they've had helicopters and drones out there said his father kent they have water team out right now today they're investigating all the ponds and the rivers and the creeks around here there are horse teams there are dog teams they found some sense and are trying to make sense out of it there are no lights out here it's cows and oil grasshoppers and a few scattered homes and it's very dark was he going around the curve was he not paying attention said kent i mean none of it makes sense so all you can do is hope and pray there's another very simple explanation he might have been exhausted i'm sure he had just come through finals and took on that drive late at night maybe fell asleep maybe got lulled to sleep on this this dark road uh seemingly out in the middle of nowhere he also thinks it's possible his son could have suffered from some type of concussion in the crash i think that i would almost make that an assumption just just seeing what happened in that crash i think even with an air bag deploying first of all it looks like the majority of the damage is to the rear and we're going to hear an explanation from law enforcement they do believe the back of the car hit a tree first so airbag really not going to help for the force of the back um you know all the force that's coming behind you essentially as you're rolling towards an immovable force like a tree and hitting it then the car kind of spinning in a different direction and then taking it to the front so you've got two what i consider two pretty significant points of impact two opportunities for his head to really have been put into some extreme motions and i think the the thought that there's a concussion is is more of a probability than than just a likelihood um without a question said kent um because the car actually ended up going sideways and hitting trees on the driver's side there's no side impact airbags on his car it's an old car so kent is basically agreeing with that i mean i think with the multiple hits that's got to be a very serious consideration i don't think the side impacts are as bad as kent seems to believe um there's just there's not any significant damage that like a side airbag would deploying would help that i can see from here i mean possibly this one up here i i wish we had photos of the actual scene when the car was actually there the tree could have been right into the side of this so yes if the car was literally spinning like doing a 360 coming off the force of the initial hit on the back and then being stopped with a tree that hits it in the side right there yeah side impact bag could have been helpful there and we are hearing they found a little bit of blood in the car i'd be curious to know was that blood in this direction was it on this door at all or was it forward was it you know towards the steering wheel but unfortunately we we don't have that level of detail so as i was saying law enforcement pretty clear with what they think happened the car got off the road and spun around and the back driver's side trunk bumper and the side of the car took most of the impact so cockrell is also saying i think that impact on the front i wish we had a better picture of it but it does look like the front quarter panel basically took a direct side shot based on what cockrell is saying here as well he said emergency crews found some of landry's personal items outside of the car at the scene of the crash including a backpack that helped authorities identify him and contact his family he said authorities currently do not believe anything was taken from landry's vehicle so i know i know a lot of what i do is considered true crime for these missing persons cases it's always a question is there a crime that is actually a component to this let's kind of break it down with what we know right now it looks like there's a terrible accident looks like there isn't another vehicle directly involved i think uh just to be safe we can say there might be a possibility that someone swerved at him or he had to juke to avoid something so i don't think we can 100 percent rule out another vehicle being a component in the accident but in terms of in a criminal way like someone chasing him and then you know pushing him off the side of the road we're not seeing any indicators of anything like that uh and in terms of trying to break down a motive if there was something like that happening first of all he's a college student you know what type of valuables are we talking about and even outside of that we're hearing his personal items are basically being found and they're being found around the accident scene so what does that what does that leave us with i mean don't get me wrong there's all kinds of social information that i think should be investigated in any missing person's case uh go back to the last people that spoke to him that day what was going on with him did he have any kind of issues going on with anyone any known enemies things of that nature i still i still think all that footwork is a necessary component because this is just a straight-up missing person's case but is it going to roll out that this is actually a criminal investigation of some kind very tough to say with a case of of this nature cockrell said that searchers were in the process of draining a pond near the area we don't know if he got out alive or he walked it out cockrell said we're still actively searching at this time kent said that the pond was drained and from the best they can tell jason is not in there they are bringing teams to thoroughly examine it and are trying to figure out why the search dogs all led to the pond so it sounds like they had several search dogs take them to that particular location and i do believe that they were tracking his scent from an area close to the accident scene um this wound up being i think it was about 900 feet if i recall correctly south of where the accident scene is there were some challenges with the pond because essentially the bottom of it is just muck so it's one of those things where yes it's been searched they're fairly certain he's not in there but you have to leave a little room of that possibility just because of the nature of of where they're searching this also notes dna samples will also be taken from jason's car so it seems to me that the investigation is at least considering the possibility or trying to rule out the possibility that it wasn't jason that was driving at all maybe it was someone else that was indeed driving i haven't seen any follow-up on that aspect at all i just you know could another dna sample be in his car he's a college student i think there's a pretty high possibility that there would be other dna samples i don't know if they're talking about the blood in particular um which kind of seems logical to me and i've seen other people in conversation threads talking about this case kind of under the assumption that it's the blood that they're talking about i'm not 100 sure based on the information i'm seeing that to to rule that out would certainly be helpful if they could say we found this car accident there was blood in the car the blood matches jason that might be helpful in terms of kind of eliminating this criminal aspect that is really swirling around very very hard in the social media space on this case december 20th 2020 the father of a missing texas state student spoke at a prayer vigil for his son on sunday night and this is a man who would know how to speak at something like that kent landry is actually a pastor as well i stand here almost a week later and i still don't know where my son is and i cannot tell you how hard that is said kent landry at the prayer vigil hosted by south minister presbyterian church missouri city texas we are living the worst dream of every parent and they certainly are already with the missing persons case but then a lot of tough feelings that are happening in particular lately with one of these articles that we're going to touch on here rescue organization suspends search uh texas equisearch winds up suspending its search fairly soon after they kind of get things started the search organization said that they believe that the area where landry disappeared has been searched thoroughly effectively they came in they did their usual checks they didn't find any additional signs that he was there they released a statement over the last nine days law enforcement investigators and two different search teams have searched for jason landry in every accessible reasonable and practical place that he might be searchers and law enforcement investigators have utilized multiple resources in the search for jason including a helicopter with infrared cameras uavs or drones sidescan sonar scent dogs as well as searchers on foot atvs and horseback we will not speculate on what may have happened to jason but we feel the vast area surrounding the accident scene has been thoroughly searched and jason still hasn't been found as a result they're suspending their search operations until law enforcement investigators obtained credible and sufficient information that would lead the team to a more specific area to search now that sounds like we're throwing this mystery in a whole different direction because now you have texas equisearch going out there saying look we've done a search of all the reasonable places where we would find him and we're not finding him out there i'm seeing quotes from some other searchers that are saying well what's the level of certainty in that and they're putting it at like 60 to 70 percent so it's not completely ruling out the possibility that he's out there but i know a lot of people are going to hear that and say hey look they went out there they had all these teams they searched this big white area they couldn't find him he had to have been removed from the area and yeah that there's there's definitely a very important consideration to that he's in an accident might be dealing with some injuries looking for help and just disappears there there could be someone comes along picks him up to take him somewhere crime of opportunity possibility what would that be with jason in particular i i don't know i i just i'm not sure um but certainly something we have to consider but we do have to keep tempering this information keep in mind this isn't texas aqua search saying they're at 100 sure that within 10 square miles of where his car was jason is not there i wish they could be that certain i know they wish they could be that certain as well but that's not how it works uh at abc 13 earlier this month texas aqua search suspended their efforts to find him but in an announcement issued by landry's father kent on social media he said the search continues just in a different manner the search coordinators thought it best if trained searchers looked for him wrote the father on the south minister presbyterian church's facebook page it limited the people that could throw off the scent of jason's trail the trained searchers had gps tracking so they could be certain what areas were searched they used a drone to do 3d mapping of the area recently that allows them to search for areas of interest on the computer then go to that location and check it out they plan to do another drone search soon some of the videos i've been watching on this they're using software that's taking the drone footage looking for colors that are unnatural using that to flag specific areas and then they send a team out to search there as well i'd say outside of the consideration of throwing off the scent dogs which you know five six weeks later i don't know if that's still really an act of consideration [Music] just hearing what type of area this is and the potential dangers around there i think public searches are going to be very tough in general because of liability concerns someone says yes i have private property there yep come on and do a search you get a bunch of volunteers together and then you know someone has an accident with one of those uncapped wells or something like that so uh i think there's several reasons why they're probably not going for that i know it's frustrating i know there's a lot of people in the public that want to help with this case in particular they're trying to find avenues to do that and they can't quite do it even i went looking for just a facebook page i'm going to look again before i post this video but i couldn't find a straight up um facebook page for helping the search on this case i did find a discussion group but that's that's not what i was looking for i was looking for something kind of at least supported by the family maybe even with some of the family commenting on it pretty much the church's page is where a lot of the information is coming through for the case that seems to be kind of the main facebook page that i would consider where the family is speaking not being able to get into his phone or computer has slowed the process said his father ken so obviously they found the phone in the car the phone is locked and i believe it needs a six-digit password to unlock it family doesn't know what that password is they're waiting for the social media giants to respond with the data we still have a lot of questions with few answers but are glad that we are we have not received the worst news and we are still hopeful in most and there's been a lot let me just say but in most of the video coverage on this case family has been very engaged his mother interviewed many times father kind of the point person in terms of the family for this case at this at this time also interviewed several times i've seen what i would consider one kind of long form interview with the mother but not a whole lot more outside of that and i'm just bringing that up because we're getting to an article now that a lot of people are upset about um i'm kind of upset about it as well it's this article it's not even an article it's actually a video clip that's been titled but it's over at fox7austin.com and the title is backpack filled with narcotics found near missing man's car um so we did hear in the previous reports the backpack was found outside of the vehicle um here we're hearing apparently some narcotics are found in that backpack but what fox7 is stating is that it's a backpack filled with narcotics and that's where a lot of people are taking offense and honestly i am too i paused the video at this particular point because they're showing a report that they're saying is coming from texas dps and the report says notes unable to inventory vehicle keys in ignition vehicle doors locked which uh we've talked about that actually i don't think we hit on the point that the keys were actually still left in the ignition and once again might show that um he's probably severely dazed after this accident doesn't even think about taking the keys like just leaves him gets out of the car black backpack found approximately 100 feet south of crash which i'm curious about also because effectively he's driving north when this crash happens but we've got the car spinning around i don't know what type of force that is we've got the back window possibly being busted did that allow kind of an ejection point for the backpack to go flying or after the accident did he grab the backpack and walk off with it and then for some reason dropped it 100 feet away from where the accident was both things are possible but the black backpack was found approximately 100 feet south of the crash location on road which contained narcotics and wallet suspected to belong to driver of vehicle so if it had his wallet which we've heard from the previous news stories that's kind of how they identified uh jason's and it was jason's car is by finding his wallet well they actually didn't find his wallet some of the early news stories and i didn't even include him in this because i found them to be inaccurate they were stating that the wallet was found in the car it was kind of found with the car it was found outside of it but it was actually found in the backpack um with whatever narcotics but just to point out the big thing that people are upset about very different to have the quote actually be the black pack the black backpack contained narcotics which means maybe there was i don't know a pill bottle maybe there was some marijuana i i really don't know and that's another whole aspect people are arguing about cops wouldn't say narcotics for marijuana well in texas uh marijuana is still illegal and then there's in the web sleuths thread in particular there's people jumping in there i've got this expertise no cops wouldn't phrase it that way other people saying you know i'm in law enforcement or my family's in law enforcement yes they would actually note it that way i i don't think we find a conclusive answer to that but this report which by the way like this screenshot of the report it looks to me like this is something that was typed up on a cell phone i don't know if this is even accurate i don't know if this is a real screenshot of the report i kind of doubt it except for these codes down here i did run some of these codes and an hq 109 is actually the type of form that this is that is the texas dps uh form for inventory of seized property but admittedly you know for them making this new story they might have had someone punch this up and they just included all that stuff down there if you're gonna release information like this like release the source just release a copy of the form if it needs to be redacted you know redact some of the information and release it um it's i i don't know i it's upsetting that this is obviously a click bait title uh backpack filled with narcotics i mean you don't even need to know what case it is if you're interested in true crime that's going to grab your attention but this case it just at least from what i'm seeing from the information that's available it doesn't seem fair to try to peg it as some type of narcotics involved criminal activity that led to him being rammed off the road and then you know thugs went and grabbed him out of the car and i'm just i'm seeing that aspect because of this particular article just swirling in social media circles just people are not letting it go um and that of course is a point that the family is very upset about uh so over on the um south minister presbyterian church site on january 5th his father kent issues a message it's come to my attention that some media sources are claiming that jason's backpack was found at the scene was filled with narcotics i believe that nothing could be farther from the truth and more to the point nothing could be more hurtful to jason or his character jason was a typical college student who was coming home to see friends and family and we're still waiting for him to come home after 23 days before i continue to be fair kent is also making a comment in this video clip where he's saying he wouldn't necessarily be surprised that a college student and they find drugs in their backpack is that necessarily surprising so it seems like there's a little bit of a change in his perspective on this that it that happened from the point where he was interviewed in this video clip to him writing about this um from my perspective just to put it out there i don't think that this hurts jason's character in the least i i don't think that this is a very important component to what is going on with this case i could be wrong but the level of attention that i see it getting compared to the information that we have about the logistics of of what we know about this case way out of whack like way way way out of whack you know i love the true crime community i love the people that are out there trying to help but there is a line where if you let yourself start creating fiction about the event and then posting that fiction and saying isn't this a possibility to other people i mean yes everything's possible it's i mean we could say bigfoot came and dragged jason away um there's you've got to balance it with the information that you actually have with the known facts and then we're we're kind of playing the numbers to figure out what's really happened in that case what's most likely not what are these outside left field coming from you know the back of the stands chances i just it's it's tough i talk to these families i know what they're going through i know they get upset i know they're not their best they're exhausted um they're frustrated and hurting and then they're having to deal with comments like this so i completely get where where kent's coming from that being said i wouldn't be surprised if there was something in jason's bag and i don't i don't think that makes him any less of a person at all you know do i do i think it potentially hurts the coverage of this case is that the point that kent's trying to make i think so uh i know enough about the major media and how they operate in this missing person sector that if you take a person's personality and chalk them up to one of several types of stereotypes media will all of a sudden just disappear when it comes to that case and i think that's what kent and his family are afraid of and that would be unfair in this case so he goes on to say i have been given jason's backpack and i can tell you that it was what it was actually filled with his laptop contacts some of his toiletries and all of his playstation gaming gear you see jason had already made plans to meet with friends online and play some games together over the break jason's backpack had all those personal items and his playstation controllers headsets and accessories uh being a gamer myself uh and a backpack user i know i know hey john you're in your 40s i know i like backpacks i just have my whole life thinking of a backpack that has my laptop my game console my controllers my headphones my gaming gear and then some personal effects in it that's not a backpack even if i was gonna be transporting a significant amount of of drugs i'm not going to do it in that bag even if we go down the the train of thought that so many people are going down he drove out there because it was some kind of drug buy or it was a pickup or it was a drop off is it going to be in that bag that all my valuables my real valuables think about this 21 year old college kid how important is your laptop how important is your playstation he's bringing it home with them i don't know the whole drug angle just it's so it's being so heavily discussed and i just it's i do feel for kent because i do think it's taking away from the focus of of the case and the tragedy that's going on with this um so please don't believe the media when they try to sensationalize what is a tragedy in order to get you to click on their site and read their articles do something that's actually useful hope and pray for our son who is still missing care for your own family and count your blessings if you don't know how or what to pray for i invite you to join me in my daily prayer and so people know uh kent is doing his sermons through this facebook page so i'm gonna have a link to that down below as well he is also commenting on the case here or there um so if you want to participate in one of those sermons it's just a click at the right below the video here and i just want to say at this point part of the reason why i talked about the interviews that i saw around this case uh kent if you want to be interviewed in a format where you're not going to be clipped down to little sound bites and made part of some other overarching conversation i'll give you all the runway that you want if you want to talk about this case for 30 minutes if you want to talk about it for 60 minutes whatever different aspects that you think need to be touched on we can make sure that that is done in a way where it's your words that are telling the story not your words being clipped up and moved together and added to uh you know other a reporter's analysis and all this other stuff uh just to make sure they're just no there are channels out there and not just myself but in this social media space where we're looking to help people that are are in the same shoes that you're in and we'll do anything we can to help you guys so please it is terrible i do think that that was a click bait title i don't think that it's necessarily fair information is there something else about that information that could be helpful to this case i can't find it outside of these kind of ideas that i think are just coming from um i don't know watching too much television or reading too many crime novels or something i i just i don't see some aspect to this that the narcotics are leading to a criminal integration with what's going on in this case this looks like a terrible accident and a giant mystery of where is jason and the even bigger question of how do we help find him if this is one of those cases where jason is out there waiting to be found how can we get the efforts how can we get the resources how do we make that happen is it a case of more social information being needed is there something from college that followed him to this location is there a possibility someone else was in the car those are all things that i think absolutely should be investigated and thankfully seems like there are some legs of the investigation kind of stepping in that direction um let's go ahead and jump to that now i think i've i've beat up on the uh fox 7 article enough i just and i know some of you out there might say hey no john there's there's a big aspect to this narcotics thing let's talk about it in the comments down below i'm i'm not closing my mind to it i can just tell you i went through everything in terms of uh the reddit article i found the reddit thread the web sleuths thread the amount of focus and fiction around that aspect or or i think it's a little unfair to call it fiction but unsubstantiated unbacked theories not strong i think is just the best thing that's why i keep i keep wanting to refer to it as left field um left field theories the the amount of focus on that is way too strong way way way too strong there's other stuff going on in this case we're going to learn about that right now over at crimeonline.com caldwell county sheriff sergeant william miller told crime online that investigators were not immediately concerned about landry's safety just after the discovery of his vehicle because of how frequently police receive reports of abandoned cars in the remote area of central texas so keep in mind this is something they see kind of frequently and kind of like that situation i explained earlier you know the next day the person winds back up at home they're really not sure what happened they don't have a great story of course you you can't get their blood alcohol content at that point that that happens all the time miller said much more often than not the owner will reclaim the vehicle after a day or two having left it to seek help for car trouble or in some cases because they got into a dui crash and did not want to call police to the scene miller reiterated earlier police statements that there is no indication alcohol or drugs contributed to landry's wreck so once again for that theory that i just harped on for probably too long we've got someone actually working the case here saying look specifically there's no indication that alcohol or drugs contributed to his wreck late last week miller said texas dps turned over the missing person's investigation to the caldwell county sheriff's office while dps focused on the crash investigation really happy to hear about this for them to split effort like that i'm sad to also hear about it because it leads me to believe that the missing persons investigation kind of hit the back burner at the start there and now they're having to play catch-up there were certain things that weren't done in the first hours after the discovery of landry's abandoned car miller said we weren't conducting a true missing persons investigation and that is wildly unfortunate with that investigation now in the hands of the caldwell county sheriff we are more focused on where was he what was he doing before he vanished miller said he said his department has been working around the clock to reach friends and associates of landry's who may have been in communication with him around the time of his disappearance miller also said investigators are working to confirm landry's cell phone carrier and determine whether he would have had signal at the site of the crash which the sergeant described as some real back country really good question i'm glad that they're looking at that aspect of it as well i'll just go back to my point in that crash phone could have been easily lost i don't know if having signal out there um after the crash is really all that important because i think he probably didn't know where his phone is but it could be that miller he's got way better information than i do he might know that no the cell phone was actually found on the passenger seat it was just sitting there so he he's got much stronger information to to conduct his investigation on than you know some some guy trying to share this information with you on youtube uh back over to another article from crimeonline.com detectives are chasing digital footprints to determine what happened to landry miller said that his department is focusing on landry's digital footprint and his cell phone which was returned to his family along with additional personal belongings that were not initially processed as evidence by the texas dps or state police so once again just kind of calling out they didn't treat this as kind of a straight missing person's investigation they really treated it like oh this is just a car accident oh by the way here's the stuff we found with the car and we'll get it towed to an impound lot or something then after the fact now you've got someone that is looking at this as a missing person's case and they're like well where's all the stuff where are those personal belongings we need to process those items now they've been handled by family members so it's it's kind of you know it's got to be frustrating sheriff's deputies travel to the houston area on wednesday to meet with landry's relatives and retrieve some items of evidence that had been in the missing man's vehicle miller said that landry's cell phone is locked and because of the type of security code he uses it may take months to unlock it but the sheriff's sergeant said he expects that cell phone and other relevant data will be retrievable through blanket subpoenas to technology companies like facebook and google where landry's data is likely stored in the cloud the only thing we can't get is data stored only on the phone miller said and thankfully not a whole lot of data nowadays especially depending on what type of phone you have not a whole lot of it is only on the phone and i know several of you are probably thinking well what about pictures you take a picture and it stores it in the memory on the phone yeah but a lot of these new phone manufacturers i mean samsung's been doing it for years they've got their own cloud services they're backing your stuff up uh google also has uh backups that are happening on that on some of that information as well kind of depends on how your device is configured but pretty rare now that most of that information isn't getting copied somewhere in the cloud asked if investigators believe landry would be found alive miller said his department simply does not have enough evidence to form a single working theory uh we're still chasing we are trying to run down all of our leads miller said adding it would have been easier if we had started a week ago so once again you just get that sense of frustration and miller's comments another thing i wanted to point out is school has been out but i believe it started last week back at san marcos so it's going to be interesting now as the investigation kind of picks up i believe they'll be able to do a little more of that back tracing the kind of social information searches that they needed i think that stuff's probably going on probably starting in the last week or so and will continue for the next several weeks the coverage seems to have really eased down i don't know if it's because of the assumption about the bag filled with narcotics at this point but thankfully back at the south minister presbyterian church facebook page there was an article in a publication called the news boy and they've copied it here so i'm going to share a few pieces of it kent landry jason's father described jason as a kind and trusting young man the youngest of three children in the landry household where his father a former trial attorney pastors the southminster presbyterian church in missouri city jason is a junior at texas state university in san marcos where he was working to land a degree in the school's top-rated sound recording program just this spring in fact jason's auditions to formally enter the highly competitive music program were scheduled in coming weeks his father said jason loves music his father said and he was just starting to write some of his own songs jason's disappearance especially during the christmas season has been difficult on all of us and like most any parent we just want to know what happened and i know i want them to know too and i hope you guys feel the same if you do please share this video uh with any friends family acquaintances social media contacts that you have in texas let's keep the exposure raised here i'm hopeful we had so many kind of big companies covering this case early on i'm hopeful that if there is a significant development in terms of the investigation that they'll swing back to that but with the trend that i saw in the information around this case i don't know for sure but we're going to keep an eye on it and if we do hear of any developments i'll let you guys know uh once again to jason's family we're very very heartbroken for what you guys are going through we're here to help in any way that we can i don't know if you guys have fundraisers or events coming up or kent if you just want to take me up on that offer of the open-ended interview you can contact me at john lordanartz.com we'll certainly do everything we can to help you me and my team here and of course this wonderful community of people that care in the description box below you're going to find several more links for conversation threads happening at reddit two threads that are happening at webb sleuths and i just wanted to take a minute to go over this particular post by luling resident six who's been very helpful someone that lives close to the area in terms of giving us insight into that particular area and things that might have happened around this case i live about 1.5 miles from where this happened there is no real ditch on this road i also noticed that when i was looking at the footage and then looking at the landscape for myself there is a grassy shoulder and because these roads are basically one lane people use the grassy shoulder to pass someone coming the other direction i think there's just an important consideration there in terms of that possibility what if someone was hauling come in the opposite direction and he had to pull out of their way it's a possibility number two it is pitch black on that road at night that said there are gas burn off flares and if he walked far enough back towards luling there are houses close to the road that have lights number three hard to imagine that he was too impaired prior to the accident considering he was able to get quite a ways down salt flat road and navigated some very sharp curves on the way of course we looked at those on the map where he wrecked was actually on a pretty straight part of the road number four there are a ton of deer out here and especially in that area if someone swerves to miss a deer they could easily have the type of accident that he had number five there are roads that come off of salt flat road near where that accident occurred but many of them lead into oil fields with no resonance he may have taken one of those and gotten turned around way out in the middle of some pasture but considering all the searching they did i assume they would have found something number six the two abandoned houses closest to the accident site are falling apart and appear completely abandoned number seven the backpack very well could have been in the roadway but off to the side of the gravel road and in the grass yeah it seemed like another big point of contention people were concerned about the term uh roadway that the backpack was found in the roadway um so that is where we end with this case another big thank you to ed dentzel and remember i'll have a link to his episode of unfound now about this case so you can continue diving in with him just as soon as we're done here i also wanted to thank texas equisearch and on behalf of once again i just i'm so moved by how quickly they act in these cases how much they try to help the efforts that they exert i and my wonderful supporters via paypal and patreon we're making a donation to texas aqua search just as soon as i'm done recording today's episode so i don't know brain scratchers um this is one of those where i'm really i'm not convinced there's a criminal element uh you know i know that some of you out there are going to see parts of this information and say john what about this john what about that i hear you i know that there's enough where we have to keep those considerations in play but for the information that we have it's really leaning towards what his father's saying this is a tragic event that did they just don't know the outcome of yet because we don't know where jason is my big fear is that it's a compounded event which it sounds like an impossibility could lightning have really struck twice him to be in a terrible accident go walking away from that and then stumble into another terrible situation being picked up by someone that for some reason saw an opportunity i don't know i don't know how strong that possibility is that's one of the things that i'm most concerned about far more than any potential you know he was going out there to meet someone he was dropping something off picking something up i just i i'm not seeing that possibility with the information that i'm not seeing it as a strong possibility with the information that's been presented i want to give a very big thank you to some of the supporters here on the channel for donating through paypal big thank you to jennifer dixon uh big thank you to angela welch sola and finally a big thank you to sandy reed if you'd like to support the channel please visit lordanarts.com where you can sign up for patreon
