[Music] sweet this is my seventh year camp uh and i keep coming back to camp because it's constantly a reminder of how god intended us to live [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] my favorite part of this job would have to just be the kids this is like my second home let's go you can have the time of your life um the blob i totally love the block too it's this big thing full of air someone jumps off the blob tower and then you just go flying there [Applause] we don't want any experience for a kid to be less than excellent [Music] the food is good the kids love it um meal times are crazy it's not like camp food it's like food food [Music] i think ridgecrest summer camp is special because it's a camp that's designed just for boys and camp crestridge is designed just for girls [Music] they get to experience things at camp that they don't get to experience at home i really like carnival it's really fun you don't really get to just like have a carnival with them i really like inspiration inspiration is like pure worship [Applause] [Music] when you're playing soccer you have usually two three teams you just fill a bunch of socks with sawdust and just trying to capture the other team's flags and i got the chance to pick up the flag and start running with it and i actually returned it and it was so fun i love just getting to do life with kids kids just do the craziest things it's hilarious what's up connor chillin that too yeah i got captain princess not trying to brag but i got cabin prints something like that i just love camp and i love soaking up all the different adventures here when we have games there are opportunities for guys to literally be a hero for the team and build confidence that there's really not an opportunity to anywhere else you get to be in the mountains um you don't get to do that every day the mountains are just i like how it's more hilly and not just all flat hiking is just unbelievable and just seeing all the mountains using god's creation to the force adventure can be stepping into the unknown it's doing something you can't do somewhere else or you've never tried before adventure is the absence of kids knowing there's a schedule is there a lot of surface in florida so a lot oh like servants no surfers oh yeah we believe at camp that every minute of every day should not be scheduled and you should have the freedom to get to choose what activities you want to be a part of sometimes what activities you want to learn oh my goodness there's gymnastics skill and running skill and cooking rocketry fire building outdoor living discords and target sports wilderness challenges football baseball soccer and lacrosse and volleyball basketball cup stacking chess crafts musical performance mountain biking rock climbing fly fishing canoeing kayaking paddle boarding swimming sewing horseback geocaching airsoft i'm running out of ideas i'm i'm full we let it have everything literally everything anything you can think of it's here so i think my main concern as a camp director is uh the safety of our campers one of the biggest things we stressed in staff week was supervision i could walk by myself anywhere here and i'd feel completely fine because i always know there's counselors and people that have my back the way that the central staff and the directors are so present that um i feel safe and secure in my job so that i know that everything else around me is being taken care of i think what makes this place special is that it's a place where kids can come and try new things and it provides a safe environment for them to fail and to be challenged in new ways that they've never been challenged before the best lessons that we learn in life come through failure i think camp does a great job of letting you experience that in a really healthy and unique way it sort of really opens your eyes to like this is really living learning that life's not all about them they learn responsibility to love the other girls in the cabin well the first time graham and i met was our first day at camp 10 years ago where he started yelling at me because i threw rocks into the lake and he was going to go telling me and for that first hour we completely despised each other and then for the rest these past 10 years we've become best friends and never looked back since that day it's like a family it's totally fine here just to be yourself the bonds you make with people at camp are so strong you get to share experiences that you can't share anywhere else meet your best friends that you're going to know for the rest of your life they are making friendships with girls who live all over the country and outside of the country we really tell each other everything even stuff we wouldn't tell our friends back home i've had friends who come back from camps and they talk about all these different amazing things and stuff and guys who come back from ridgecrest they talk about the best friends that they made mostly kids want to be known and they're drawn to people who love them well and they're going to find those things here at camp our staff are here to mentor the campers they're here to serve the campers and they're here for the right reasons right around 2012 my mom had passed away and i was very angry with god and then i met john mark and i was [Music] he helped me regain faith in god and i took that a heart it was a big deal for me and john mark helped me through a hard very hard time i appreciate that so much when we look for staff we look for girls and guys who love jesus and love kids in the cabin she's always encouraging everyone and you're fun and goofy and we like to be weird and goof around it's fun our counselors are the best like you don't even know they're the best counselors ever yeah and i knew the second i met him i was going to have a great year [Music] i hope you like me brittany and christy are like almost famous they're so cool you know i've seen him go from squeaky voice max to now young man max obviously he's maturity in faith but also physical maturity and so both of those things are just it's just a real cool thing to see she's just a really cool person crestridge is special to me because my mom went here and i know that without the faith that she like the foundation that she built while she was here i know that my family would not be the same and i would not be the same and to see the generations that come through and the tradition that it brings and um yeah it's it's very special to me so this is where i experience like god's like unconditional love for me and just the way that my counselors love me so well every year it's structured in a way that really invests in the kids lives and that environment that atmosphere that just encourages kids to have a blast but at the same time like pursue their creator i know there's a lot of other camps that they put the emphasis on so many other fun things and we do so many fun things here but the emphasis is really on the gospel and that's what's so important about this place kids come here with a lot of burdens they are bombarded with so many things at home i want them to come and learn about this relationship that they can have with christ and experience his love through the staff at camp [Music] we're called to love people and we love them unconditionally just like jesus loved us so regardless if someone is accepting of the gospel or um still just has a lot of questions and not there yet that's perfectly okay we talk a lot about discipleship and we talk a lot about adventure and we believe that the bible pairs those perfectly and we believe that they're paired perfectly in real life [Music] it's just a constant legacy of people leaving their mark on other people this is my sixth summer this is my ninth summer at camp this is my 13th summer at camp i've been coming to camp ridge crest for 24 summers my first summer when i was 9 years old as an apache camper and this place has absolutely changed my life it's formed me into the leader that i am and the way that i pursue and love the guy that created me i started at camp as a counselor in 1976. i thought it'd be a one-time thing that i would do while i was in college but i found a place very special a place that changes lives i wanted to be a part of that for the rest of my life back in um 1826 ron found a shovel in the middle of the woods out here and he decided that he was going to make a camp so he just started digging and for the next 50 years he dug out a lake your thoughts on mad cow disease go mad cow disease yep what's your favorite kind of tree this is not is this cat-boy to questions uh oak and then many kids came and now it is what it is today who won the french and indian war the what the french and indian war did columbus sell the ocean blue in 1492.
