do you know what birth control products to use and where are you covering all your bases on your bird control proposals the Pest Flossie is in the house that's right I'm Cully and John is off camera checking out the latest recipes of bird nests ooh yeah yummy we're here to provide you with our insights and experiences in the pest management industry if you're new here consider subscribing below we want to give a shout out to the following folks for all the comments new era natural pest control thank you so much Daniel deed I Gordon Bell he's also been very active we appreciate all your support also we want to send out a special thanks to the bug geeky podcast for giving us multiple shameless plugs on their podcast thank you very much we still encourage everyone to listen to the buggy ki podcast today we have Tim Coughlin from bird X back with us let's get back to that interview about determining what products you want to use on that site based upon your survey a lot of it depends on our birds nesting no say we're gonna come up with a proposal to net this facility and it's a $60,000 netting job and we go to the client say well netting is one and done we're going to net it it's only sixty thousand dollars and the guy says I don't have that kind of money and you walk away so we advise the two proposal system and we're out on the job we know that if say for instance you have been nesting in an area we don't want to put spikes in there maybe bird wire bird shot maybe we can put some ultrasonic in the specific area to keep specific types of birds out often we'll recommend doing things that we don't even carry like doing some structural build-out for Starr a lot of times they'll work their way up and it's often rented a bird product get your stuff a really good carpenter if your company doesn't do carpentry get a carpenter and build them out physically right that's how you do for your client is offer the best solution you know offer this to your viewers as well if you go to a bird survey and you get stumped you're more than welcome to calls whether you're a client or not we'll give you two or three options for whatever type of scenario you're in and quite frankly we get unique problems surrounding this every day so we see any things we're always bouncing ideas off of each other it's kind of like the longer a doctor's been doing surgery the more they ask for advice of their colleagues right so every day I kind of feel like I'm learning something new every day and there's new methods mm-hmm well they're welcome to call us for help if they need yeah I would agree with that I obviously have called you in the past with situation and got great feedback and good different options even that I would would have normally thought of and I've been doing bird work for over 20 years so yeah it was very helpful appreciate that is the same thing calling there was a rodent person at the seminar yesterday I learned five things that I thought I knew but didn't so education he in their perfection absolutely I agree and then what steps are needed to provide a correct bird control proposal to a customer well there's a couple things first of all you want to make sure that you cover all your bases that if you're gonna do two proposals one for say netting don't let them know how many square foot is going to be covered and then it covers all the hardware if you're going to use stainless steel hardware which we highly highly recommend over galvanized absolutely you dollars more but it'll hold it much better and look longer yes our netting is guaranteed for ten years if it's tall properly this is a tenure so make sure you have all that and something that some installers miss is an item called change order Wow so in the construction industry contractors are very familiar with change order basically what it says is that if an addition is added to the job you stop work and even the client to negotiate the charge of what you're gonna offer right the termite reader I'm treating else one day and the owner comes on since you're doing a great job would you put your ride around the garage I just went ahead and did it right we can't do that as much as we're trying to help people yeah any reason but you change order should be in there some people will have one cost that covers everything we highly recommend that you take your lift equipment fees in separate line item that yes because if there's something that's going to hold you back from completing in time you have a weekly rental all sudden you need to lift for eight days and you've given them a one-week rental you're stuck with that right and then we also find that some clients will say you know what we have a lift be worried about this and it'll be here ready for you and then you find out that they use their lifts a lot and they keep calling you off the lift oh yeah taking it from your verify the time that you're going to do the work it's like any of our other services if you get to the job and find out when you get there that you can only do the bird netting after 4 p.m. then you're paying your people a premium it's gonna take you longer to do the job at night those are questions that are on me and the checklist by the way you need to cover that and then we always recommend having two proposals mm-hmm if you went to the doctor with a knee problem to try physical therapy working with the scope right now and if we need to do something I want some options as a client if I'm buying bird control and the reason is is that the best practice recommendation of physical barriers may not be in their capital budget for this year right so some of these other products may get you through the year until you can budget for the netting quite frankly this is one of the number one calls we get from commercial facilities the costs will go through these questions how long the birds been there what if you try do you have a pest control company and often we get yes we do they came out with a $60,000 proposal and said that's all they know so they call us and they buy products right now if you're gonna sell lasers on units ultrasonic units you have to know specific birds that they're going to address you have to know placement so we recommend that the pest control operators sell these devices and then they do a routine service weekly at first for the first month - - then at least once a month because it's like handed so I'm gonna rodent trap and saying here do your own rodent control it just doesn't get done well absolutely it's like when you put it in track you know you should have them on a maintenance program for the bird track because you need to go out you check that track you know every three six months you need to make sure it's working make sure there's no debris that's gotta not and shorted it out make sure that your solar battery pack you know is functioning correctly I mean all those things and so it's just yeah I would see it being exactly the same thing with the other devices exactly an interesting enough when you have electronic devices on the roof of a commercial facility when their HVAC guy comes up or the rougher they disconnect everything yeah and that's important and if you don't have a maintenance program they often don't plug things back in because they really don't know how they work yeah their fault so I always recommend a maintenance follow-up program absolutely I would agree with that well anytime you get other trades on that site you can frequently have problems I mean how many jobs did you see where I mean I got so eroding jobs from the local cable company it was pathetic you know they would go in there and bust this huge hole to run a little cable guys and roofers put a lot of money in my pocket yeah and plumbers so there's another key to successful proposal especially in today's world where people are not answering their phone everything goes to voicemail right they get you out there to look at the bird problem you're billing the manager tell them about the biology you're you're kind of like selling on the survey explaining well you know if we do shot Trak that's the error when you do it and if we do spike because there's no nests and we can actually do some spike over there save you a little bit of money come back with two proposals something I've always done my whole pest control item let's go back to your office get into your calendar and set a date for the proposal oh that's good yeah and a question once you get in there before they commit to a date who besides yourself will be making the decision on the birth control mm-hmm so you've given the respect to the person that took you on the tour and he may say you know what that's a great idea we have a plan engineer clan manager a QA manager let's see them they're available and let's get a date if you leave there with that a date to come back and propose it may take you weeks to get it absolutely I've made that mistake numerous times and of course pretty much every time I didn't get the job I think that's a bridal vital part of that's even part of your quality process right you don't want to sit down and take all the time takes to set up a large project bid and then you don't get even talk to anybody about it right they say just email me the proposal it you've done a really great job and I know people that sell bird control remotely and they travel the world to do it mm-hmm folks are really confident and they can get a list of references that would knock your socks off and a bunch of photographs and a great bio which is something else if you're doing a lot of bird work anything at the Pest Patrol build a bio not on we refer our certified installers out I asked if they send me their bio with a list of some of their jobs what the job history is in pest control and birth control I almost sell the job form before they call a client set up the meeting right so you can't actually email and make the sale but face-to-face is really the way to go especially if you're proposing to a team absolutely you don't sell it you can't service it yep that's correct yeah well thanks
