today i'm going to be talking about some really basic file upload bypass techniques so what i mean for that is have you ever been on a website that has a file upload feature right where maybe you can upload an image or maybe you can upload a video or a pdf file and have you ever thought about how could i upload a file that's different than what it's accepting so as as a hacker one thing that we're always looking for is the ability to upload our malware and malware can take many different file formats right it could be an executable file exe it could be a php file potentially there's many different file types that malware could present itself as and we just need to be able to have a way to upload that file onto a web server now any modern web server that's configured with security in mind is going to prevent those common file extensions that i just mentioned that are easily exploitable from being uploaded and i have a great example of that so there is a a computer a machine called popcorn on the public platform called hack the box and if you're not familiar with hack the box i'd highly recommend checking it out if you're at all interested in learning how to hack or sharpening your hacking skills essentially what it is is a repository of a bunch of different vulnerable machines and you're able to go in and and you have permission and you try to hack those computers you try to hack those machines and whatever whatever exploitation method you use is really just kind of like a new skill that you can add to your belt so one of those machines is popcorn and i like this one because it had a perfect use case for me to make what this video is based upon so you'll see as we go through but essentially there's a couple file upload features on this web application and one of them accepts png files and we're able to through a pretty basic bypass technique that i'm going to show you we're able to upload not just a png file but we're actually able to upload a php file and since php is running on the system we're able to execute php code so therefore we're ending up with the ability to actually take full control of the system by executing whatever commands we want to and i'll show you that so to begin we have a blog post that i actually just got finished writing so if you prefer a text format or if you just kind of wanted to follow along or bookmark this page for later i highly recommend checking out my blog i'll make sure a link is in the description to this page but it basically just shows you everything i'm about to go over in the video but just in a text format real...
