do [Music] my name is brook blake mobile notary um my youtube videos are about helping notaries new notaries notaries in general um there's not a lot of youtube videos on notaries and so i was like you know what i think it's beneficial because i google stuff about notaries all the time and i wish they were on youtube videos examples so today's youtube video is going to be about a signature by mark is when the signer cannot physically sign their name in those instances this is called signature by mark which means they are allowed to do an x instead of their signature okay so i got this on the national notary association website um and here's a great definition of what signature by mark is it is to sign in the present um of two people other than the notary um has the same intent the signature by mark has the same intent intent as a signature on a document okay a signature by mark is when someone signs a document by making a mark rather than signing his or her name to be regarded as a signature the mark should be witnessed by two persons other than the notary a mark is a symbol made by the signer that represents execution of a document such as an x a scribble or a stamp and even a thumb print okay guys so we are back with an example so here is a handwritten document that needs to be notarized here is the text they have today's date they will have jane doe signing and then this is witness number one and witness number two um jane doe cannot physically sign her name so this is called signature by mark okay so she is going to do any kind of signature signature that she can do jane doe said she can do a x for signature by mark witness number one is going to sign jane doe's name then right by jane doe's name they're gonna witness number one sign their name [Music] and it's just a person that is not going to be affiliated with the document okay witness number two you will have to have another witness um and that is someone else that watched what jane doe signed by mark okay and like the last video said california in california notaries cannot be a witness for a signature bye mark i hope this has helped you guys thank you so much [Music] [Applause] [Music] you
