[Music] so here is an introduction to motor section 28 of the canadian electrical code book there's two parts to this video part one will do this simplified motor diagram a very useful diagram and then part two will be a complete individual motor calculation using a class motor to start with there are three horsepower tables cable 44 is for three phase motors table 45 is for single phase motors the table d2 is for dc motors with these tables you're able to find the flc of the motor one thing uh to make sure is that when exact values of capacities are given on the nameplate it sees the tables so when the nameplate flc is given it super exceeds the horsepower tables okay most of the time it'll be given but just in case if it's not then you can resort to the three tables to get your flc once you have your flc you can find your conductors 106. sub 1 is for continuous duty motors where it says the rule it says not less than 125 times the flc minimum so that would be your minimum calculated value and with that value there you go to the appropriate conductor table if it's copper table two find something greater than that calculation and then you'll be able to find your wire size the other type motor is non-continuous motors non-continuous duty motors where you would take the percentages from table 27 multiplied by the flc equals minimum the other one is the over current device and the over current device rule 28 200 i'll take you to table 29 when you get to table 29 um there are a few different types of motors that are available there's the scroll cage the synchronous motor and the wound rotor are your three ac motors and then there's your dc motors and there might be other types of ways of starting a motor on table 29 a table 29 is a maximum table so for argument's sake we're going to determine for a scroll cage induction motor there's really only three types of over current devices there's time delay and so for a scroll cage motor three phase i would be going 175 times the flc and like i said table 29 is a maximum calculated table so whatever maximum you get here that would be the size fuse that you would put and then you would go smaller than that the other one is the circuit breaker and with circuit breakers you're going to go up to 250 times the flc and again that would be your maximum calculated value for the and then the last one would be the non time delay use which with that one here you're going to go 300 times the flc and that would be again your maximum value the last thing for motors is your overloads 28 306. with overloads they're determined by a service factor that you'll find on...
