hi everyone welcome to this lecture on policy inheritance attachment for compartments and what happens to the policies when resources are moved or compartments are moved my name is Rohit rahi and I'm part of the Oracle cloud infrastructure team so there are two important concepts which you need to understand when creating policies and we discussed earlier that policies have to be attached to compartments so there are two important concepts there so one is the policy inheritance and what it simply states is compartments inherit any policies from their parent compartment so for example we saw this earlier OCI has a built-in policy for administrators which says allow group administrators to manage our resources in tenancy and again if you recall from the previous module on just on I am policies manage is the highest level of verb which is which is available and all resources mean admins can manage everything in in OCI tenancy is basically the account so due to the policy inheritance the administrators group and and users within that group can also do anything in any of the compartments in the tenancy in my previous example in the demo you saw my tenancy had 15 compartments and the users as part of the administrators group could actually manage resources in any of those compartments because of this concept of inheritance now let's look at an example let's say we have the root compartment which is again as we discussed is the parent for all the other compartments in a tenancy and there are three other compartments a B and C so policies that applies to resources in compartment a also applied to resources in compartments B and C so what it means is if you write a policy which says allow network group Network admins to manage virtual network family in compartment a basically that also allows the group network admins to manage networks in compartments B and C so you don't have to specifically write policies specifically for compartments B and C because they are inheriting policies from their parent compartment now the second important concept you need to understand is the concept of attachment when you create a policy you must attach it to a compartment or for that matter to the root compartment tendency where you attach it is really important because that controls who can modify it or delete it so for example if you attach it to the tenancy also the root compartment then anyone who has access to manage policies in the tenancy like administrators can change or delete it but if you attach it to a child compartment so here if it's in compartment a B or C then anyone with access to manage the policies in that specific compartment you can also define compartment admins for example can change or delete it so you can have compartment a admins here you can have compartment B admins here etc etc right and you can define your you...
