[Music] all righty folks so Noah here what we're gonna do is show you a non-invasive way to get the seer rating out of any air-conditioning system all we need to do is have a stopwatch a calculator and know the BTUs of the system we're trying to determine the seer rating so this system here as we get closer see that 30 on there that's telling you it's a two and a half ton system so that's 30,000 BTUs for every ton there's 12,000 BTUs so being that this is a two and a half ton system it's 30,000 BTUs so we're gonna take that number and we're gonna get a stopwatch and a calculator and head out to the utility meter and to be able to do this test the right way we're gonna turn off the power to everything in the house except the air conditioner so let's do it now okay so most electric meters analog electric meters have a landmark a little black area that you just saw go through and what we do next is count how many seconds it takes for the disc to make three turns so we're gonna get our stopwatch ready and right there we're gonna start and we got our stopwatch going we're going to count three turns so that's turn number one next is turn number two coming up there and this is going to help us determine the seer rating of the air conditioner and we'll stop the stopwatch on turn number three so we've got a total of twenty nine point six zero seconds and we're gonna use that and get our calculators ready to determine what is the seer rating now keep in mind while we're doing this test every single breaker in the house is turned off the only thing we got running is the outdoor equipment and the indoor equipment so you're condensing unit and your air handler so one important piece of information is this little KH that you see on there at KH 7.2 we're gonna use that also to fill in our calculation okay so now we're at our calculator and what we're going to do is calculate what is the actual seer of our air conditioner so we always use 3600 as a standard figure and we're going to multiply that times the KH factor of that utility meter which was 7.2 if you remember now we're gonna multiply that also times how many revolutions the disk turn we use three in this example but you can use as many revolutions as you want you can use three five ten whatever so we use three revolutions and then we're going to divide that by the total seconds that it took that disk to make those three revolutions which was twenty nine point six zero so your answer is 2627 watts this is how much power this air conditioner is consuming at the at the moment that we did the test now you can do this with just about any appliance you can do with a stove water heater with a water heater you got to leave the water running to make the heating elements come on so 26 27 is the wattage on this air-conditioner so we know it's two and a half tons which is thirty thousand BTUs so we'll take 30,000 and we're going to divide that by the 26 27 and that answer folks is the seer rating of this air conditioner eleven point four one seer or just about eleven and a half seer [Music] [Applause] [Music] you
