hey noir it's me Michael I'm a fifty year old man Michael no you're not I'm fifty more no you're not I'm I'm mature I'm very I'm unbelievable you believe me Michael you're not fooling anyone I know your real age no yeah hey guys nor year and here's how to write believable characters of different ages but before we get started make sure you subscribe and if you're already subscribed hit that Bell icon somewhere down below so you could get notified whenever I upload new videos let's get started characters like us come in many shapes and sizes and agents believe it or not what characters aren't all the same age who knew if you're writing a young adult you can have some characters who are older and if you're writing an adult story you could have some characters who are not adults they might even be babies point is you're writing a realistic story and that means your characters aren't all clones of each other some will be young some will be old so how do you write believable characters of different ages the trick is in the action and dialogue people at different ages act and speak differently at baby giggles at a deflating balloon while an adult wouldn't and adopt Mike us while a preteen might find cuss words funny a teenage girl might be moody sometimes while a teenage boy might be hungry all the time obviously these are all stereotypes there's no way for me to show you how to make your characters fit into an age group because not all people act the same for example a kid might be more mature than an adult while an elderly might be healthier than a teen as you can see everyone is unique but the best way to indicate age is in dialogue what a character says indicates what they've been through for instance older people tend to say back in my day a lot while younger people tend to use slang in their speech and babies tend to giggle gurgle and cry and repeat words kids under 10 are innocent I hope unless they've been through war or hard times so they would say naive things like how does Santa fit through the chimney or why do I have to go to school again all my examples are stereotypical you'll have to use your description to let readers know how old a character is and whether they act and look the same as those close to their age I wish there's a formula for writing about different age groups but we're all so unique and different that it's almost impossible to have the formula and exercise that can help is sitting out in public and observing people and writing about how they behave you can take what you observe and use it in your story there you have it how to write believable characters of different ages if you enjoyed this video leave a like check out my others and subscribe and remember no more president and happy holidays [Music]
