Byline on microsoft
good good day to you today's this is lesson three for writing for April 14th so you can watch this for that lesson so today we are working on our headline in our byline so two things that every newspaper has is a headline in the byline so the byline is simple it's just who wrote the story so if I'm writing the article then the byline would say by Tessa Brandenburg yours would say by with your name after it so that part's really easy the other part we're gonna do is called the headline so the headline is a short attention getting statement about the event so it's kind of like the title but it doesn't just tell you it doesn't just state like I wouldn't just call it something that's not interesting and like school you wouldn't call our articles school because tells them nothing it's gonna tell them something about what's gonna go be going on without telling them all the details so here are some examples so this one is about this headline that says pyramid of Dozier Egypt's oldest pyramid restored to its former glory so it doesn't just say pyramid it's telling you that this story is about how they made this pyramid they like fixed it to make it like it used to be this next one says April super Pink Moon will be this year's biggest and brightest full moon so that makes me think what's a pink moon and this article is gonna be about this pink moon that's gonna be coming in April so it makes me curious about what is this and so that's what a headline is supposed to do is supposed to want get the reader to want to read your article so it tells them a little bit about it and it helps them know and helps them get interested in what the article is about let's look at one more this one who US lawmakers pass 2.2 trillion relief bill to help blunt the economic impact of Kovan nineteen shutdowns so there's a lot of big words in that so I wouldn't suggest using that for one of your usually something like that for your article you want your readers to understand what it means like the bill to help blunt the economic impact that's a lot of big words that probably our readers won't understand so you're gonna want to make your headline something that's simple to understand it's for the readers that you're gonna send this to and then the last one this one's simple Wednesday's April's April Fool's Day hey that's easy to understand I know it's about April Fool's Day and I want to read more about it so that's a way you can do that so today we're gonna write a headline so if I go over to mine and reminds about school lunches so my headline could be something like let's write down some ideas so schools provide free lunches to all kids so it's not terribly long it's I would think a headline headline should be anywhere from probably five to ten words ten would be max but you wouldn't want to go any more than ten so that's an idea I could also do lunches for free and people might want to read that that could give them interested and I could say Duchy lunch and breakfast right I could say lunch in breakfast at Lincoln Elementary okay and I could also say something like we could ask them a question so we could say are you hungry come get a free meal so those are some ideas for headlines so if we look at all of those let's I want you to help me pick the best one so you want them to know what's going kind of get them interested in it so help them to want to read it you want them to get some informations we know what it's about which one of these do you think would be best to get catching on someone's attention and get them to react so we have schools provide free lunches to all kids lunches for free lunch and breakfast at Lincoln Elementary are you hungry come and get a free meal so when I look at these the first one it has it tells you the free love there's free lunches right it also says for kids which is good to know and if I was gonna look at that I'd want to read the article if I had kids or if I was a kid the second one mm-hmm lunches for free that's true but I don't know anything about it like why are the lunches where are they at who are they for so there's not quite enough information in that one someone says that was probably not the best option okay number three lunch and breakfast at Lincoln Elementary it tells you what's happening right you get lunch and breakfast but it almost sounds like school is like it could be school is still going on and right like if we were still in school you could write an article about lunch or breakfast at Lincoln but we went but this one if Tenace sounds normal like nothing is new so it's not quite as interesting I don't really want to read about normal breakfast and lunch when we're not even in school so I probably wouldn't be one that I would look for so probably not that one either number four are you hungry come get a free meal does that sound interesting to you that definitely catches my interest I think I would want to read and see what it's about it doesn't tell you who at all like it just it could be anybody who's hungry um so I think I mean it could work because it's talking about free meals and if you're hungry like you might want to go so I think that either one or four would be a good headline okay so on your own oops now I want you to go ahead and make a couple headlines and in response to this assignment on seesaw and then I will kind of look at them and help you figure out the best one so what I want you to do is make at least two headlines and put them on seesaw and then I will you can tell me which one you like if you want but I will help you choose one that's best and then under the byline you're just gonna put by your name don't put my name put your name so that's what you're gonna put okay so good luck and I look forward to seeing your headlines
