[Music] [Applause] [Music] peeps julian here from disrupt tutoring and as always such a pleasure to join you today we are doing question one from the 2017 ieb maths lit paper one and this question deals with calculating gross salary uif and medical aid contributions so this all forms part of financial maths so it says level is a 37 year old sales representative in a pharmaceutical company earning a gross monthly salary of thirteen thousand two hundred rand now they ask us to determine le buchan's annual gross salary so they've told us what a monthly salary is but now they're asking us to calculate her annual salary and we know that annual means her yearly salary so and there are 12 months in a year so we need to multiply her monthly salary by 12. so for the question 1.1 her it's simply her monthly salary so which is 13 200. multiplied by the 12 months of the year and in your calculators this comes to a total of 158 400. okay and then on to 1.2 uif which is your unemployment insurance fund constitutes two percent of the gross salary one percent is paid by the employer and one percent by the employee determine lebron's monthly contribution to uif so this means we have to find out what one percent of her monthly gross salary is so we take that thirteen thousand two hundred rand and we multiply it by one percent so you can either multiply it by one and then the percent sign in your calculator or we know that 1 out of 100 because if you divide by 100 that gives us a percentage and in your calculator this comes to 152 rand so that's the answer for 1.2 and then on to 1.3 it says lebron's employer pays a third of his monthly medical aid contribution determine the total monthly payment towards medical aid if leberghan's portion is 1273. so this means that lebel khan's portion must be two-thirds because his employer pays one-third so this is two-thirds of the total so now we need to find out what one-third is so for one point three we know that two-thirds equals 1273 rand okay so we need to divide both sides by two so if we divide so remember if we divide this by 2 and 2 we put a times there just to make it so if we divide both sides of 2 remember we can do that because it's an equation so this will cancel which will leave us 1 out of 3. so therefore a third equals so if you put if you take 1273 so this number over here and you divided by two we get that this comes to six so rand 600 rand comma 50 cents so that's one third so then therefore the full amount is we need to take the third and multiply it by three so we can get what the full amount so that means we also then need to times this third so it's the 686 686 and 50 cents by three and so therefore her contribution total is the three times 686 which and 50 cents which equals 1900 and nine rand comma four four comma sorry five zero so i'll just write that and so it's one thousand nine hundred and nine rand and fifty cents and that is the total contribution before i go i just want to give a very special thanks to the epic sponsors for making this video possible read more about them in the description below be sure to visit our website for more of these epic tutorial videos remember if you can't find the answer to your questions you can always send us your question and we'll respond with a personalized video just for you until next time stay epic
