hi i'm scott from moneynerd and today's big question is how to get default removed from your credit report you might have had a loan or credit card and missed payments and now you've seen a default when you're searching for your credit score or maybe you've missed payments on a mortgage or buy now pay it later like planner or something like that when you're online shopping all of these defaults on your credit report can have quite serious consequences for your financial well-being so in this video i'm looking at seven ways to get that default removed so let's get into it before we do please subscribe i do lots of videos about getting out of debt scenario number one is if a default has been added only after one month officially there needs to be three months in arrears so three payments missed in order to have a default applied to your credit report so if you find that's the case you've had a default applied to your credit report prematurely before that that three months is up then you can complain to the creditor and complain to the ico and you can get that default removed scenario number two is where you weren't properly informed about the debt so perhaps they didn't send you letters to notify you or maybe you moved house and you notified them that you've moved address and they've been sending the correspondence to the old address if you if you paid the debt off as soon as you found out about the debt then there's definitely a good case to say hey you didn't let me know can you please remove the default from uh from my credit report if you do that i would suggest writing to the financial ombudsman you might have more luck there than the ico in this specific situation and add extra details like that you've no you've got a good credit record if you do and you've never missed payments on any other debts if that is the case anything that might back up your case for this scenario number three is if the default has been added too late to your credit report so the rules say that the default needs to be added three to six months of you being in arrears if it's been added six months plus on the seventh month the eighth month or even later then you're well within your right to ask for them to move that default earlier on your credit report and the reason you'd want to do that is the earlier that is on your credit report the more time that's elapsed and the sooner that it will drop off your credit report after that six year period scenario number four is if the creditor has passed the debt to a debt collector and the debt collector has added a additional default on your credit report they're not allowed to add a second default on...
