subscribe to ra solutions by clicking on the subscribe button and clicking on the bell icon to receive notifications hello there welcome to another video about ra solutions in this video what i'm going to be doing is showing you how to create and add placeholder text in microsoft word placeholder text meaning dummy data now i've got a a blank word document open here this is office 365 latest version of microsoft word 2020 on here and now what i want to do is very quickly add some dummy data in there you know dummy data placeholder text useful to show people structure and layout of specific documents and how to lay things out and without actually having to create meaningful text in there and when people use dummy you know um documents they use placeholder text to allow him to do this so let's say i'm mocking up a page and i want some dummy data or placeholder text in there quick and fast there's a few ways to do this now there's some commands you need to know and the first one i'm going to use is the lorem command so the first thing you do is type in equals l-o-r-e-m and now i need is a number in brackets the number will constitute the number of paragraphs in this specific dummy data placeholder text so bracket open i'll put the number five there that number five will constitute that i want five paragraphs in here bracket closed and to add that dummy text simply click on enter there you go there's five paragraphs there that's one way to do this uh another way to do this if i delete that data is again the same command equals l and now this time these two sets of numbers i'm going to add so the first number here is the number of paragraphs i want the second number will constitute the number of sentences within each paragraph so i'll have three paragraphs comma the number of sentences in so let's have five sentences in each paragraph bracket close enter and i've got five sentences in my three paragraphs that's another way to add placeholder text a further way to add placeholder text is a different command i need to use now this one is the r a n d command okay so there's two different types of r a n d commands now obviously r e n d stands for random so you start off the command by typing in equals r a r-a-n-d this time i'm going to type in dot old bracket open now again same sort of principle applies here um the first number will constitute the number of paragraphs the second number will constitute the number of sentences within that paragraph now let's say i want four paragraphs comma 10 sentences within each paragraph and there we have it so obviously you've got some meaningful text in there now the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog but you've got it 10 times within each within each paragraph there so that's some placeholder text added that way and the final way i want to show you so if i type in equals this time a different command i'm going to use it's r and d without the dot old uh bracket open again the first number will cost you the number of paragraphs the second number will constitute the number of um sentences within each paragraph bracket close enter and then we have some different type of text there still meaningful uh still something you can use in them um in your demo data or dummy data there showing you you know how to add placeholder text by the way if you adjust the number if you're just that first number that will adjust the number of paragraphs you have you adjust the second number so for example if i this time do equals r amd increase the first number that will increase the number of paragraphs by increasing second number that will increase the number of sentences within each paragraph making my document in this case bigger there we have it so it's gone on to two pages there so that's a quick and easy video to show you how to add or create placeholder dummy data in microsoft word and this feature works in obviously all the different versions of microsoft word you have out there um i hope this video has helped you this is a powerful obviously useful tool to use to add dummy data without you having to randomly come up with some data to show somebody i don't know in a demonstration or in a presentation somewhere hope this video has definitely helped you please continue to stay safe during the pandemic take care goodbye please subscribe you
