How is Sweden able to develop the high-tech Gripen-E for $2 billion, and is it any good?
Lots of nationalism in these answers… Let me try to be a bit more objective. The Gripen E/F was able to cost only $2B to develop because of several reasons:A) Sweden has a long history of designing fighter aircraft in cost effective ways. They have never been able to afford the sort of ‘golden bullet’ other countries can, and thus have learned to stretch resources effectivelyB) The Gripen E/F may be very advanced, but it is still just an overhaul of a long running design.C) Its a single engine light fighter, comparable in size to the F-16. It weighs half of what an F-18 or F-35 does and is outright dwarfed by the F-15 and Russian Flankers. The Gripen E is basically a far superior, more modern interpretation of the F-16 in its current form. The F-16 is one of the most successful fighter aircraft ever built and itself has been heavily upgraded through the years, but they just don’t offer the kind of unique capabilities the Gripen E can. No other aircraft at that size does as far as I am aware. Here are some of the notable ones imo:Raven ES-05 Radar: Its a very modern AESA radar similar in raw performance to other modernized 4th gen fighters, though it will give up size/power to larger fighters. However, no other fighter has an AESA radar combined with a mechanically scanned “swashplate.” This allows an absurd radar field of view of 100 degrees or more.Edit: I originally stated the ES-05 does not have SAR functionality. It does. Its IRST uses the latest technology and is better/newer than systems like those found on the Typhoon, and it fuses data with the Raven radar. It may even be a bit more powerful than the hyper advanced DAS system on the F-35 in the forward view, but it provides nowhere near the 360 degree coverage of DAS.The Gripen E can supercruise with an air-to-air combat load! That’s pretty impressive. The Gripen E is extremely cheap to maintain with a minimum number of crew. It was designed to operate on short garbage runways, even highways, and it can rapidly disperse to operating anywhere necessary with as few maintainers as possible in the event of an invasion. Oh, and it costs under $5k per hour to operate, which is cheaper than an A-10! An F-15 can cost $40k per hour by comparison, with the F-35 in that same ballpark. In western armies, personnel costs are the biggest budget busters so this is a HUGE dealNow, for the problems:The Gripen E is not stealthy. Anyone claiming otherwise is lying, its impossible to be stealthy with dirty wings full of external weapons and fuel. People claim this with the F-18 too and I laugh at them as well. Sure its stealthier than a brick like the F-15 but it doesn’t deserve to be in the same sentence as aircraft which can carry stores internally when it comes to RCS signatureThe Gripen E is a light fighter. Comparing it to the F-35, F-22, F-15 or even F-18 does not make sense since it gives up payload, range, thrust and radar size/power to all of them. The Gripen E was designed to marry the high-tech capabilities of the worlds most advanced 4th gen fighters in a lighter, cheaper airframe that doesn’t require an army of maintainers to keep flying. For Sweden, it makes far more sense to put that money into more training rather than developing a hanger queen.Procurement isn’t that cheap, even if maintenance is. They cost $70M each, which is what the latest F-18’s cost. Even the F-35 clocks in at just over $90M due to massive economies of scale benefits (there are already more F-35’s built than were Gripens over the last 40 years). This is a big issue for all European fighters, who simply can’t build (or export) enough of them to compete with US aircraft on cost. I mean, just look up what the Rafale and Typhoon cost. That’s why the Gripen attempts to fill the niche it does, and has done so with decent export successes. The Gripen E is an exceptional aircraft. However, comparing it to the F-35 is a losing argument, the F-35 is simply in another class in terms of overall capabilities (and cost!).

Why hasn't the IAF retired the MiG-21 yet, even though it is extremely old?
I will give a step-wise explanation on why IAF still uses Jaguar and Mig-21 till date even though they were retired long ago by some of the operators around the world.Mig-21 : It was in early 1980s , when Indian Air Force realised that it needed to replace its Mig-21 since they will be signNowing the end of their service life by 1990s which will be a critical fall for Indian Air Force in terms of numbers. Hence the Tejas programme was started which had its own share of problems and was dragged on for many years. Hence what IAF needed was an interim solution. The solution came when it was decided that IAF Mig-21 will be upgraded and its Total Technical Life (TTL) will be extended. The upgrade involved better avionics , armaments , EW suite and more. This helped the Mig-21 to stay for much longer in Indian Air Force. The sole reason why Mig-21 has persisted in IAF till date was due to the fact that Tejas programme faced initial hiccups and thus failed in its objective to replace the older Mig-21 in IAF service.Recently IAF has retired its Mig-21 Type 96 Aircrafts as Tejas programme has started to bore results with Tejas now being actively inducted in Flying Daggers Squadron of IAF. At present IAF uses only Mig-21 Bison/bis aircrafts which will be retired from service by next decade.SEPECAT Jaguar : Jaguars in IAF service are termed as “Deep Penetration Strike Aircraft” ( DPSA ) meant as a Fighter-Bomber to strike deep in the enemy territory. Indian Air Force has serially upgraded its Jaguars with DARIN programmes the latest being DARIN III which adds an AESA radar to the Jaguar. Future replacement for Jaguar can be AMCA which is an Indian 5th Generation Fighter Aircraft currently under development. The extended life which has been breathed in Indian Jaguars through MLUs can well keep Indian Jaguars in air up till next decade.India has been notoriously known for running the aircrafts in its inventory for a much longer time than warranted by its TTL through MLUs like in case of Mig-21 and Jaguars and even Mig-27 and others. Retiring almost 200+ Mig-21 will bring in a critical void which IAF doesn’t want due to its falling numbers. Also Jaguar is India’s lone DPSA so as long as upgrades are available and quick replacements are unavailable it is better to keep them running as these aircrafts serve quite well in their roles. Many nations still use Mig-21 like Romania with some of the famous Mig-21 knockoffs like F-7 used many nations around the world like Bangladesh , Pakistan and Egypt.

What are the steps for a new company registration in India?
With reference to this blog - The Companies (Amendment) Act, 2017 - What Startups should know? There has been majorly 15 changes to the companies Act, 2017. But, from registration point of view, there has been just 2 changes -With reference to this blog: Reserve Unique Name electronicallyThe Ministry has also introduced Reserve Unique Name (RUN) forms to simplify the name reservation process of a company. The rules earlier required a company to reserve a name either in advance through the Name Reservation — INC-1 form or directly through the incorporation application (SPICe Form). Now, the RUN form has replaced the INC-1 form.Other features include:RUN form gives the option for only one name for the company, unlike INC-1 which had a provision of six options for the company’s name.RUN form doesn’t require any Director Identification Number (DIN) or a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC)The fees for RUN form is $15.7 (INR 1000), irrespective of whether the name is approved or notThe approved name is valid for up to 20 days and 60 days from the date of approval for a new company and an existing company, respectively. The proposed companies can apply for the reservation of name using the RUN form and they will be intimated of the approval by the MCA through email. However, it has been suggested that RUN form be used when there is an ambiguity about the name because of its similarity to existing companies or Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs).If the name is unique, a company can apply for the name directly with the SPICe form. This would save time and money for the applying company.e reservation - RUN. Registration fees (Government fees) has been removed.2. With reference to this blog “Zero Registration Fees”The Ministry has amended the fees payable to the Registrar to incorporate the companies. The Companies claimed the benefit of Zero Fees for incorporation shall maintain the status of small companies till one year. Therefore, the companies could not increase its Authorized Capital above INR 10 lakh within the span of 1 year from its incorporation. The fees payable to States were not reduced or eliminated i.e. the Stamp Duty on MoA and AoA of the companies would stay intact.Charges that remain in place are:Fee for Company Name ApplicationCompany Registration Fee (Based on Authorised Capital / Number of Members of the Company on Memorandum – Form No.INC-32-SPICe),Filing Fee for documents such as Memorandum of Association (Form No.INC-33-SPICe) and Articles of Association (Form No.INC-34-SPICe),Stamp duty payable to the state government on registration of Memorandum and Articles of Association based on authorized capital, declarations, affidavits etc.But the procedure to register a private limited company or an OPC still remains the same.
