Did you get placed on a campus? How was your experience?
It was the year 2015 and I just started with my 7th semester of Engineering. As you know that placement season starts around August-September, I was nervous and perplexed whether to sit for software companies or not (since I was from ECE and didn’t code in my life).Attempt 1 : TCSI was least excited for this since TCS was the first company that comes in the placement season, offering the lowest package and being a mass recruiter, I did not want to sit for it. However, thanks to the stringent placement cell rules, it was mandatory to sit for it otherwise we won’t be allowed to appear for other companies.Interviewer : So what is your interest area?Me : Definitely not IT!Result : RejectedLeft college that day with a smile on my face. Mission accomplished, now I can sit for other companies/profile.Appeared for a few software companies anyway and could not clear written tests of any!Attempt 2 : Ernst & Young (EY)I was super-confident for this since I was involved in college societies from the first year itself and had a good command over GDs, Behavioural Interviews etc. Even my batchmates were like “bhai tera to pkka h isme” (bro, you have a sure shot at this). It was also my dream company at time since EY is a big brand and EY brand can take you places!Day of GD: moderator announces the topic and no one took initiative to start the discussion. I started off and discussion went great.Result : RejectedBatchmates : *smirked*Me : depressed af!After the EY debacle, I stopped appearing for companies I didn’t want to work for.On the day of EY rejection, I came to know that I cleared the written test of ZS Associates (management consulting firm). I only heard about this firm from a few seniors and was skeptical about it.Attempt 3 : ZS AssociatesRound 1 : Aptitude test - clearedRound 2 : Business Case InterviewI was least aware of what a business case interview is (being an Engineer!) and didn’t know how to proceed with my preparation.Since I was unplaced and depressed, I thought that this is the last option for me on campus since placement season was about to get over.I gave my everything preparing for it, YouTube videos, Case interview books, case studies from HBS, cases from Mckinsey, you name it!The interview went for ~50 minutes and I felt that it went well!Round 3 : Puzzles & GuessestimatesRound 4 : Partner RoundThis was a 1–1 fit round with a Principal (top most designation) of Delhi office. I was scared as hell since even the HR wished me luck before pointing me out to his cabin.I could not judge how the interview went since the Partner didn’t show any emotions whatsoever on his face.We were asked to leave for the day without any result and were informed that results will be announced after 3–4 days. Then comes the interesting part -I went to college the next day and my friends (the wolfpack) called me in the ground to do some bakchodi as usual! We were around 10 people sitting in circle in the college ground and I receive a call from unknown number on my phone. I picked it up and the caller said “Hi Shivam, I’m calling from ZS Associates and want to inform you that you’ve been selected!”. I was on cloud 9 at that moment and went to my wolfpack and shaked everyone’s hand. As per the “tradition”, my friends lifted and dropped me on the ground celebrating this. I was elated and was about to call my mom to inform her.My friend came and snatched my phone. I saw smile on everyone’s face. I realised that my friends pulled a prank on me. They asked one of the junior to act as HR and call me to inform that I’ve been selected. They also made sure that I didn’t have that Junior’s number :-/I was shattered! It was a good prank I admit it but the pressure of placements takes a toll on you. I laughed and thought “what will I do if NOW I don’t get selected”!!!!!!!!!!Later that day, received a mail from placement cell.Result : SELECTED !!!!Finally informed my parents and that was probably the happiest moment for me, it was not because I got placed, but because of that look on my Parent’s face. That look said it all!!I still feel proud looking at the below picture from 2016.I know it is not Google or Facebook but your first placement is always special :)Edit 1 : Thanks a lot for the upvotes !!!!

What was your campus placement experience like?
College - BMSCE, BangaloreBranch - Information ScienceTier 1 - Compensation <= 5LPATier 2 - Compensation > 5LPAIt was my 3rd semester (yeah ;) too early) when I was moving across this thread to figure out the companies and gain few insights from our seniors. At that time I never thought off that I will contribute here as well.I think I am eligible to answer this as it took me 47 odd companies to get placed. Yes you read it right 47. I am mentioning my experience for few of those companies here.CGPA - 8.5 (Doesn't matters unless it's less than 7. But to be on a safer side, keep it above 8)Strengths - Aptitude, Programming, DBMS, NetworksWeaknesses - OS and Other theoretical subjectsHere are the experiences of the few companies:NutanixFirst round was the coding round and I didn't clear it. There were 2 coding questions on hackerrank.Hired 3 FTs and 1 InternSabreCleared the first round(at 11 AM). There were 2 coding questions with 14 MCQs (Tech+Aptitude)Got rejected in the technical round(at 9 PM).Hired 7 FTsAkamai SDECleared the coding round. Got rejected in the technical round.Hired 7 FTsAkamai SOCCleared the aptitude test. Got rejected in the technical round.Hired 1 FTAmadeus LabsDidn't clear the first round itself.Hired 2 FTsTCS/Accenture/WiproThen came the mass recruiters. I was so firm that I won't compromise on my career by taking up such jobs even if I am at the rock bottom or remain unplaced till the end. But the placement department made it compulsory for all of us to apply. I decided to underperform in the online test and get out from the danger zone ASAP.McKinseyThe online test was tough and the cutoffs were higher than the other companies. Only 3 people cleared the test.Hired 1 InternJuniper NetworksThe online test was a way tougher than expected. Didn't clear.Hired 6 InternsInfoworks DataThe test was easy but I messed it up.Hired 2 FTsAtlassianCleared the online test. Around 17 people were interviewed. Got rejected in technical round as usual.Hired 2 FTsMoneyviewOnline test was easier than the other companies. Didn't clear it.Hired 6 FTsOracle MySQLIt was a pool campus at our college.Cleared the online test. After the talk, we had a written round. Cleared that as well. After the first technical round of interview, I was asked to wait for the next round. I sat there for 3 hours waiting for the second technical round. Suddenly the HR came and told that I wasn't going to the next round.......... I was asked to leave after waiting for so long.Hired 1 FT.The struggle was real !!!WhatfixThe online test was easy. They have called us at their office for the face to face Interviews. Got rejected in the technical.Hired 1 Intern.SonyFor the online test, they had given us options to choose among various domains. I chose Java. Cleared it and went to the technical round. Had an in-depth discussion on coding and DBMS. Cleared the technical. HR was just a formal discussion.Hired 6 FTsSELECTED !!!As it was a tier-1 company, I had kept the offer letter just for a psychological support and continued preparing for tier-2 companies as if I had nothing in my hand at all.HPEIt's a funny thing that even though I didn't clear the online test, I had got interviewed twice by them in a year.Hired around 15 in total (FTs and Interns)End of the 7th semester: By this time the criticisms, the comparisons and the questioning (For which I had no answer) had been started. It was a tough time.Lending KartCleared the online test (Easy coding and Easy Aptitude). After realizing that it's providing only an internship, I decided to spoil the technical interview.Hired 2 Interns.Pulse SecureOnline test was tough but their bars were low. Managed to clear it. 10 people made it to the next round. Had a decent technical round. However, they had wait-listed 3 of us and told us that they will get back to us a week before joining. But no one got any response from them.Magnitude SoftwareIt was the toughest online test ever in the placement season 2019. It didn't come after taking the test and probably recruited no one.AppDynamicsThere were 5 rounds in total: Online test, 3 Technical, HR. Around 122 people had applied.Decent online test (Aptitude+Coding+Query). After 2 rounds of technical interviews, 5 of us had made it to the managerial round. Finally, 3 of them were asked to leave after the round 4.I was called for the HR round. Had in-depth discussion about resume and the event that I had organized.I was asked to wait. After waiting for half an hour, HR and Manager came and said " Congratulations! Welcome to the team of AppD!!! "At that time I didn't realize that I had really made it and all those struggles are going to end.Finallllly Recruited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!***Pro Tips***1) If you are from CS/IS, don't give up. Wait for the developer role with a decent package.2) If you know coding, you are almost done with your preparation.3) Take risks if you believe that you deserve something better.4) If your friends and classmates are getting placed early, that doesn't means that you take up any random company which is offering a role that you don't like. Wait for the better opportunities.5) Sometimes you might feel like a loser, a crap, a failure, shattered, bad, broken,…. But remember that it's temporary.6) Approach seniors. They are the only ones who can guide you for each particular company and the whole process.Note: My respect to all those friends and seniors who did not settle for the jobs and packages which they didn't want and struggled till they have got what they deserved.Special Thanks to: Tarun Verma Mithun Tiruvedala Shyam Dattani Shobhit Agarwal Utkarsha Goswami Preyaansh Patel Sameer KattiAll The Best !!!

What is one thing you want to say to Quora?
Hey Everyone,So let me say what I have been withholding from a long time. Let's start the story from the starting. You must know this guy,So, on 24.November.2015 News broke that Aamir said to Media that, “(Wife) Kiran and I have lived all our lives in India. For the first time, she said, should we move out of India? That’s a disastrous and big statement for Kiran to make to me. She fears for her child. She fears about what the atmosphere around us will be. She feels scared to open the newspapers everyday. That does indicate that there is a sense of growing disquiet”And we all so-called tolerant Indians responded to the situation. Everyone started to backlash him. People started to give him advice to go and live in Pakistan (World Happiness Index Ranking of Pakistan is 75 and of India is 133). This is how we tolerant people reply. When someone tries to express displeasure to current situation, only one solution, “Send 'em to Pakistan”.Now Let's Move on to Recent Situation,So, Recently he too made a statement regarding current situation of country. To be precise, his exact words were, "I’m anxious about my children… because they don’t have any religion…. We have taught them about good and evil, our views on the world. Religion has got nothing to do with good and evil. I feel anxious for my children because tomorrow if a mob surrounds them and asks them whether they are Hindu or Muslim, they will have no answer. These matters do not scare me; they make me angry. And I want that every right-thinking person should feel angry, not scared. This is our home; who dares to evict us from here? The poison has spread; it will be very difficult to put this genie back into the bottle. There’s complete freedom to take the law into one’s own hands. In some areas we see the killing of a cow receiving more importance than the lynching of a police officer."Now go through statement. He said these things make him angry and doesn't scare me. But All hail Indian Media, this statement was shown as,“Dekhiye Prime Time main Aakhir Kyu Lgta h Naseer ko Bharat M darr”“Naseeruddin ko bharat m lgta h darr, dekhiye Raat 9 bje”.And News was presented with Full ON masala. And This News Anchor Amish Devgan (I hate him) tagged him as “Award Wapasi Gang” and Several others put him into category of “Anti-Nationalists”.And What was reaction to his statement?People started bashing him from every direction. He was labelled Traitor. Advisers returned to advice him to go and live in Pakistan. And One person crossed limits when he sent a ticket to Pakistan Flight to his home. You must be experiencing by now, how tolerant we all Indians are.Now let me explain myself on this topic. He signed on a petition for relief of death statement of Yakub Memon, I am totally against this. A Terrorist deserves nothing but to be Hanged till Death. Now people started asking why didn't he feared when 26/11 happened? Why didn't he feared when 26 CRPF Jawans were martyred in Sukma? A simple logical answer to this can be,“He had Faith in our Army and Defence Forces”.The Incident he mentioned in his statement was related to mob lynching of a Police Officer. Now Let us Move to Pakistans Prime Minister's Response to Cash his Statement,"We will show the Modi government how to treat minorities...Even in India, people are saying that minorities are not being treated as equal citizens," he said referring to Mr Shah's statement. In this statement he tried to spread poison among fellow pakistani brothers that India doesn't treat Muslims as equal citizen but as 2nd citizen. But Naseer was quick to reply to Imran with,“I think Mr Khan should be walking the talk in his own country instead of commenting on issues that don’t concern him. We have been a democracy for 70 years and we know how to look after ourselves.”Moreover, AIMIM Leader Asaduddin OwaisiWho's known as a Pro-Muslim Leader too replied saying,“According to the Pakistani Constitution, only a Muslim is qualified to be President. India has seen multiple Presidents from oppressed communities. It is high time Khan sahab learns something from us about inclusive politics and minority rights.”This whole incident can be best described by a tweet of Richa Chadha,This tweet simply explains that our, public response towards his statement is proving him right. And Don't you agree with his statement that current government focuses more on cow death than cops death or any other issue? So, Why I wrote this answer is, today I read statement of a fellow Quoran on comment to an answer explaining how love-jihad still exists, his words were,“Islam is Cancer, I would wipe my ass off with Quran, I repeat Islam spreads Cancer”.See I would just say every religion has it's own setbacks. So focus on what it has good to give you.As a Man said, “When a Hindu will be hindu in true sense and a Muslim will become muslim in true sense, all these problems will vanish”.Be Religious, Love your religion nobody stops you, but please don't be pro-religious, thinking your religion to be above all other religions. And You should know one thing, Every person living in india is Indian irrespective of his religion, caste, color or anything. Remember one thing,“हिंदू मुस्लिम सिख ईसाई,आपस में हैं भाई-भाई।”Rest is upto you, what you take out of this!Keshav Bhatt :)Sources of Statements made:1. Aamir Khan on intolerance: Kiran asked me if we should move out of India2. Why Naseeruddin Shah is angry (and why you should be too)3. "Will Show Modi Government How To Treat Minorities," Says Imran Khan4. ‘Take care of own country’: Naseeruddin Shah tells Pak PM Imran Khan on minorities remark5. Naseeruddin Shah row: Asaduddin Owaisi slams Imran Khan over minority intolerance jibeAnd You should surely watch this video, to understand History of India includes war between Two Kings for Kingdoms and Not war between Hindu or Muslim Leaders,https://m.facebook.com/story.php...

Which is the worst company to work in India?
Well I have to go anonymous while it comes to speaking the truth. I am an employee of a legitimate IT company in India which is Infosys Technologies. I am working here for the past two years and below are my observations and experience:When you are working, you are just a resource. For example you buy one Phenyle bottle. As you have already paid for it, you own it. Fair enough. But what happens when someone tries to own one person irrespective of the fact if the person is happy or not! Same is with Infosys. Managers considers you as their OWNED PRODUCT which they can utilize and throw away ...

What is placement like in BMSCE?
Hardly anyone from BMSCE would have experienced, what I had, during my placement time.I have always wanted to write a blog about my placement experience. :)I gave around 23 interviews(in almost all the rooms in Placement Dept. including one in the Placement Officer's cabin too :) !)At the start of the placements I had an exact CGPA of 9.Strength: I was extremely good at apti and solving problems, good at DS, ADA, C. Weakness: I had trouble interacting with people.( Anyone who meets me for the first time will definitely get the impression that I'm an introvert. ). I was not too passionate about computers at that time. My resume did not have anything interesting.Netapp(8.25 lpa) July 12 2012I had exactly 9 CGPA and was eligible for the written. The written was tough and I was very tensed since it was my first written.Did not clear the written.Oracle Cloud(5 lpa) July 18 2012After clearing the written, we were told that it was a night shift job. Some people left the scene. I decided to get an experience of giving an interview. Clearing the written gave me a lot of confidence and I decided to get rejected in the interview(at that moment I didn't know what lay ahead). At the end of the first interview I told the interviewer that I had a chronic disorder because of which I couldn't stay awake at night and asked him if I could get a day job. I got rejected in the 1st interview(I had not done well anyway)National Instruments(Internship + 8lpa) July 19 2012After the written test which consisted of only 12 subjective questions, 10 were selected. I was one among them. I had done really well in the written. The interview questions were mostly based on algorithms and DS. I cleared the 1hr long first interview. This was probably the only company that had asked all the interviewees the same questions. 4 of us got into the 2nd interview(last). In the second and final techincal+HR round, one of my 2 interviewers was a BMSCE pass out 3 years senior from my branch. I had done really well and had high hopes. I got rejected in the last round. They selected 1 (making the entire college eligible and selecting only 1! After coming home I sent my senior a fb request and asked him the reason for my rejection :))Akamai Solutions Architect(7.2 lpa )20 july 2012I knew this profile required good interaction/communication skills. I had none. I decided not to clear the written(or so I say to myself, as I didn't clear :)). The other 2 who were rejected along with me in NI got into this.Akamai SE (7.2 lpa) 21 July 2012I cleared the written. At the end of the 2nd interview I was informed by the guy who was conducting the test(some 3rd party test conducting company) that I was rejected. I left for home and on boarding a bus I received a call from my friend who was still giving interviews. On knowing that I was already on my way home, he didn't tell me what the matter was. Later(after 5-6 months) I got to know that I had actually cleared the interview but was wrongly informed. Since I was on my way already, the interviewers told my friend not to call me back. The guy who wrongly informed me, was sacked. Thoughtworks (6.23lpa ) 23 July 20122 days later, I cleared the written and programming rounds of ThoughtWorks. There were more than 100 ppl to be interviewed. It went on till 12:30-1:00 in the night and still some of us were left to be interviewed. The interview was rescheduled to the next day at their office in Koramangala. I got rejected in the 2nd interview( The interview was difficult). There was only an HR round left after that.I was exhausted after this. Clearing written and getting rejected on 5-6 successive days.I did not clear the written test of Fidelity. I became over confident at this moment and decided not to attend any tier 1 companies. I became greedy and wanted to get a high paying job.JP Morgan (5.88lpa) 2 August 2012I cleared the written again and was informed that the profile was business related(this was a misunderstanding). Knowing that there was a GD and considering pay(my hunger for more money :)), I decided not to open my mouth in the GD(which was not at all difficult for me to do :P). In the GD I was asked to conclude( since I had not spoken a word). I concluded by saying "some agree on the topic, some do not!". The coordinator burst into laughter :).Rejected in GDCleartrip (6.51lpa) 9 August 2012Cleared the written. The interview was tough and I didn't do well. Got rejected in the 1st interview.Oracle Finance (4.93lpa) 31st August 2012Considering that this could be the highest paying tier 1, and me not getting a job yet, I decided to attend this. I cleared the written and the technical interview. The HR was taken at around 730 and we had to wait from morning for the interviews. We were tired. In the HR I was asked if I was tired. I replied yes. The interviewer asked the reason for my tiredness as I had done no work and had to just sit on the bench. I gave the stupidest reply : "I was too excited about OFSS coming to BMS and couldn't sleep the entire night! :D". I got selected.(still wonder how!)My pride had increased and I did not sit for some tier 2 companies- MetricStream and Informatica which were offering around 6lpa.signNow(8.3 lpa) 25-26 September 2012The written was very easy. The first interview was difficult. I had prepared well and cleared this somehow. After clearing the 2nd round we were called to their office. Cleared the 3rd round too but screwed up again in the HR. Got rejected in the last round. The result was informed some days after that and the same day we had the written of Zynga. I was already sad and ended up not clearing the written of Zynga.SAP came to campus on 12th Oct and I didn't clear the written again.( adding to my agony of not clearing a written for the first time in 3 months, they took 7 and all of them from my Dept.)Goldman Sachs kept a cutoff of greater than 9.0 (I had 9.00, although I don't think I'd have cleared it).VMware( 10.3lpa ) 25 OCt 2012I cleared the written and the 3 difficult technical interviews. 5 of us were shortlisted for HR and 2 got selected. I was extremely confident that I'd clear this, but I got rejected again in the last round.Microsoft came on 2 Nov. It was the only tier 3 company. My sister's marriage was scheduled on the same day and I couldn't even give a try( I did attend the pool campus afterwards and cleared the written and programming round, but got rejected in the telephonic round)Being too confident that I was destined for something big I didn't sit for Avaya which was offering more than 7lpa.Completed 7th sem. There were not many companies left after this and I was getting more and more depressed. People were asking me why I was getting rejected, to which I had no answer. ( Some even compared me with SriLanka, who were signNowing the finals of all major tournaments and were losing!)During the Jan-Feb holidays no company came to our college. (Target and Caterpillar did come with pay around 5-5.5 close to my tier 1 pay. I decided not to attend). Some companies that were supposed to come(comparing with the company list of my seniors) did not turn up!Everything was going against me. I regretted rejecting/deliberately failing/not attending the companies that I had in the past. All my friends were placed(even the ones who were getting rejected along with me)By this time I had exhausted all the Oxygen( Inspirational/ Motivational movies from the IMDB list :) ) that I was living on!LSI(7lpa) 16 March 2013I cleared the written and the first interview. We were not told anything about the profile before the test. In the interview we were told that it did involve coding. The final round was a group video conference interview with 3 people from different locations in United States taking interviews and the Manager sitting in front of us in the conference hall. I remember paying an auto driver 450 bucks at 4 in the morning to attend the interview which was scheduled at 6'o clock in their office at Marathalli. The interviewers told me that it was a data report generation job. I wasn't interested and didn't do well anyway(not knowing anything related to the profile). I got rejected in the last round-video conference/interview.Samsung(5.5-6.1lpa) 11 May 2013- 21 May 2013Having waited for too long. I decided that it was too late now and I had to stop being greedy and somehow crack this. Due to a misunderstanding some of us from IS had missed out from registering for Cisco which was a pool campus scheduled on 12th May. I cleared the Samsung written held at our college, and the pool campus written held at their office. I cleared the only technical interview which we had. And finally managed to clear the HR too.Even though I had a tier 2 job now, I was not satisfied and was depressed.Last day of college (6 June 2013)We had completed the 8th sem external exams, and I was to have the project externals at 1:30 on 6th June. Some of us had received a mail on the previous day to visit the Placement Office in the morning. I was going through my project report and was doing some last minute preparation for the project externals. At around 12 we were called by the Placement Officer and were informed that we were called back by signNow because of immediate requirements. :) We were told that the job location was Noida( this got changed to Bangalore the next day, but still we had our training in Noida :) ).I couldn't believe that this was how it was destined to end. I had learnt a lot in the last 1 year, more about life than technical stuff. I had spent a lot of time in and around our beautiful campus. Made a lot of friends(all placement coordinators as I was a regular visitor :D), probably more than I had, in the previous 3 years of college. If you have made it till here, Thanks!!, and here are a few important tips for you:1. Never give up, take risks. Never lose hope. Live in the moment.2. It is better to not get something that you deserve, than getting something you don't deserve.3. At this age, you don't need to earn more, you have to learn more. ( I understand this now.)And the last..4."The journey is what brings us happiness not the destination" (1 year at work and I've understood this very well!)Be passionate about what you do.BMSCE Rocks!!!
