grant search there are two different methods you can use for finding grants using the basic search filter or using the keyword search filter let me show you the basic search filter beneath the keyword search you will see these four boxes grants now database grants for non-profits grants for individuals and grants for small businesses choose the box which matches your grant recipient type in our example i will be selecting grants for nonprofits as you can see in the recipient box it states i've chosen grants for nonprofits if you click on this drop down menu you'll be able to see the other grant recipient types it's best to select only one recipient type at a time for the best results in the location drop down menu you'll be able to choose your geographic focus please keep in mind that if you select a country such as the united states or canada this will only show results which are available nationwide and may exclude grants which are available in your state alone for this reason we recommend opting to select your state or province for the best results please select only one location at a time in our example i will be selecting the state of new york you can then click search grants this has now narrowed down our results to 828 grants found for non-profits in new york please note that these numbers will vary each day as new grants are added and grants are removed when they expire to further narrow down these results click on the category drop down menu to filter your grand interests there are over 50 different categories to choose from we recommend only selecting one grant interest at a time for the best results to remove your selection simply click again to deselect your choice in our example i will be selecting the grand interest mental health if you now click the search grants button you will see this has further narrowed down our results to a total of 60 grands found you are unable to sort grants by the date added or arrange grants by the funding amount at this time to make it easier to find grants in your area you may have noticed we have sub sites for each location you have access to all 50 u.s states u.s territories canada as well as international you do not need to purchase separate subscriptions to access all these locations you can simply use the change location tab in this menu to select your preferred grant watch site in this example i will be changing from new york to all locations at any time you can click on the grant watch logo in the top left corner to be directed back to the home page i will now show you how to search for a grant using the grant id number click on the tab search for a grant make sure all fields are cleared including your location enter the six digit grant watch id number in this box when you click apply filters the grant you are seeking should appear the second way we can find grants is by using the keyword search filter again click on the search for grant tab all these filters are optional you do not have to complete each section sometimes less is more the first section is where you can select your grant interests we recommend selecting only one at a time for the best results if you were using a keyword that could fall into multiple categories you may opt to leave this blank instead in our example we will be leaving this section blank in the second section you can set your geographic focus please keep in mind that if you select the country such as the united states or canada this will only show results which are available nationwide and may exclude grants which are available in your state alone please select only one location at a time for the best results if you leave this field blank it will yield results for all locations in our example i will be selecting the state of new york the third section is the funding source if you are seeking a particular funding source for example only state government grants you can select this section if you have no funder type preference or would like to include all grant funding available simply select all or leave this section blank the fourth section is choosing your recipient type use this drop down menu to select your grant recipient are you an individual non-profit or small business in our example i will be selecting small businesses if there is a particular keyword you are searching please enter it in this next section please keep in mind that this is not a boolean search and the keyword will be pulled from all grant listings it's best to use single keywords as phrases will be unlikely to match up how you spell your keyword also matters for example i would receive different results depending on if i was to spell my keyword child care as one word or two words in this example i will be entering the keyword child care as two words if you are searching for a particular grant please enter the unique six digit grant id number here and clear all other filters as we demonstrated earlier if you are looking for grants within a particular time frame you can enter the period for the deadline here for example if my schedule does not allow me to prepare a grant application this month i may want to seek grants for the deadline from next month onwards you can also leave this filter blank if you have no preference in our example i will not be setting any time frames below you'll see three extra boxes the first is a keyword phrase if you are looking for an exact match to your keyword please select this for example if we use the keyword child care as two separate words and do not select this keyword phrase box it will show all grants which include the words child and care this may yield results which are unrelated to what i am looking for so in this case i will be ticking this box to avoid that the second box is include ongoing this is for grants which have a rolling deadline and are available all year round if you wish you can deselect this box in our example i will be including ongoing grants and the last box is include archived these are expired grants which may be available again in the future in our example i will not be including archived grants once you have completed the information to your liking simply click apply filters to see your results unfortunately there is no way to save your search filters at this time as you can see our results have been drastically narrowed down and it is now easier to discover which grants i may be eligible for when you scroll down to see your results you will be able to see the grant title the grant deadline a preview paragraph of the grant description as well as the unique six digit grant id number this id number is unique to grantwatch.com and can be used again in the future to locate this particular grant on our website as we demonstrated earlier if you have previously viewed this grant today this button will be gray if you have not viewed this grant today the button will be green if you are interested in knowing about any grant click on the button view full grant on this page you'll have the option to share this grant to facebook twitter and linkedin by clicking these icons you'll also be able to email this grant or print this grant if you wish to save this as a file to your computer simply click print grant and then save as a pdf file the agency type lets you know whether this is a government grant or a foundation grant the funding source will tell you who the grant funder is and the agency who was awarding these grants the deadline date is also listed as well as a detailed description of the grant you'll find the six digit grant watch id number if you wish to make a note of this to find this grant again in the future alternatively you can also bookmark this page to your browser the estimated size of grant lets you know how much the funder plans to award and this information is disclosed at their discretion sometimes the grant funder may not disclose this information this is one of the reasons why we cannot filter grants by the funding amount and then there is the eligibility criteria please read the criteria and ensure you are eligible before proceeding also displayed is any
