What is the difference between a digital signature and an electronic signature in your professional opinion?
Both terms - “electronic signature” and “digital signature” - are often used interchangeably, they aren’t exactly the same. Electronic signatures could be considered virtual representations of a pen-and-paper (“wet”) signatures. Digital signatures, also called cryptographic signatures, are a type of electronic signature that’s coded and encrypted in order to prevent the impersonation of a signee, tampering, and improve security overall. The main difference is that a digital signature is mainly used to secure documents and is authorized by certification authorities while an electronic signature (e-signature, e-sign) is usually associated with a contract where the signer has got the intention to do so: Difference Between Digital Signature and Electronic SignatureE-signature helps an individual to show his agreement to the conditions and terms of an electronic service. It can also be used to confirm the identity of the message's creator. Many countries give the same legal importance and significance to e-signatures as to traditional ways of executing documents. Here are the features of some most popular tools in this area: Best E-Signature Software Reviews & Comparisons | 2019 List of Expert's ChoicesWith electronic signature tools you avoid signing digital documents by hand - which is tedious cause otherwise you need to print, sign and scan all that stuff - that’s why such tools are on the rise. If you work with such signatures often, maybe you need some simple free tool which is specialized exactly for your business tasks. It really depends on the purpose for which you need this to sign an already typed document - it is often better to use a specialized tool, like Draw Your Signature Online and Sign PDF - CreateMySignature.com (instead of a regular image editor) to streamline your business documents workflow.

When government introduces digital payment all over India, what would be the challenges faced by Rural areas? How will GOI overc
There are 5 key challenges to government’s policy on going cashless in India:Tech literacy - even reasonably educated often get stumped with many of the technologies.Tech coverage - India’s cellular internet coverage [3G/4G] is not that good and so is the smartphone penetration.Financial inclusion - Many don’t have easy access to banks, ATMs, Point of Sale terminals etc.Transaction fees - the existing players like Visa and Mastercard charge exorbitant fees especially for smaller transactions.Enforcing tax rules - In India, most shopkeepers escape from paying taxes as the rules are complicated and taxes are high. Getting them to comply is going to be hard. Here are ways to tackle this:Remove all taxes & duties involved in the import and sale of smartphones & data gear.Incentivize the aggressive rollout of data coverage and increase the government funds for supporting cellular/satellite data coverage in remote areas.A one-time subsidy of Rs. 1000 to a rural poor to buy a smartphone complying with government’s rules on Aadhar & digital signatures. They could buy this with their Aadhar card and the manufacturers could be forced to pre-install UPI app [instead of their usual bloatware] with a firmware tied to the person’s Aadhar. Since the entry level smartphones could come down to Rs. 2000 with the scale and without the import duties, most poor people could afford this. How do you define a poor? Now, that demonetization is done, you know how much each person has in their bank accounts. Anyone who has deposited less than Rs. 25000 should qualify [in fact, all future subsidies should be based on this - as that would punish those who use their accounts to deposit other people’s money].Carrying your smartphone should be like carrying your id - used carefully and universally. That means women who are denied their phones [due to their local/family compulsions] will get the access too.Build a new app to access all government services in one place in their native language driven mostly by voice and icons. A person should be able to open up the app and access forms, get food rations, banking services etc. Have this app pre-installed in the government smartphones.Have the third app for reporting all kinds of issues with governance with location tracking- school closed, ration rice not available, road broken, drainage issues etc. This app again comes pre-installed and the data from this should be audited by a separate government body and data should be made available to all.Have free wifi & usb charging stations in all ration shops, post offices, railway stations and other government offices. A person coming to do transaction with the government could be encouraged right there to use their new smartphone to buy train unreserved tickets, food rations, postal stamps etc. Cut the existing counters by half and use the staff to teach the people coming in.Embark on a massive tech literacy program. Rope in companies that can go around rural India and teach people basics of Internet, e-commerce and mobile wallets with their new smartphone. Emphasize the importance of passwords and secrets. Most in rural India can get it quite intuitively if told properly. Maybe a subsidy of Rs. 100 per person in rural India for the basic class. For the first year of that new person’s smartphone usage, the government could subsidize their basic data plan - say Rs. 30/month. You can rope in companies like Facebook, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Paytm, Ibibo and Flipkart to foot in part of the budget for this [with no strings attached on what sites they could use].For any mobile payment transaction below Rs. 100 there should be no transaction fees by law and banks should be asked to bear the costs. The shopkeepers who still don’t accept cards after that time could be reported for tax evasion.Have a separate fund for improving online security. The government should insure all the poor in this new plan to avoid them being liable for hacks and data thefts. They should also fund new encryption algorithms and end to end security of transactions. The government should plan this so aggressively that it should achieve all this by the end of 2017. It is ambitious, but possible. The budget is less about Rs. 80000 crores [40 crore rural poor * Rs. 2000 for the total cost of all subsidies above] and could be easily paid with the RBI’s profits from demonetization [even if 95% of black money comes back to the banks].Imagine having the rural poor able to use their new smartphones for better news access, weather coverage for farming, getting notification on impending disasters like cyclones, access education programs, access all government forms, get government loans that they qualify for etc. Imagine that world and all of that is within hand’s signNow.It is the beginning of a new India. Is there a way to use a mobile card reader to collect card info and fill out an existing form on an e-commerce website, rather t
I don't think I understand the question. Is the scenario that you want to use a card reader like the Square device to read a mag strip card and take that information, automatically populate the track datad from the mag strip onto an ecommerce form on the mobile phone for mobile phone purchases? If so, that is possible. I don't know what that has to do with a merchant account or app. However, there will need to be some type of app to interface with the physical reader connected to the phone. You can't do that today via browser. There are too many security concerns let alone, it isn't possible as far as I know. Someone more technical can chime in here. Imagine what would happen if you could have browsers start controlling physical chips on the phone...hacking issue etc. So, you'll need an app. That app would then need to be integrated to a merchant ecommerce website in some manner. And let's not forget that the mag stripe doesn't have any shipping or billing information. So if there is shipping envolved, the user still has to enter that info somehow. All of that is a lot of work to basically capture 16 digits, expiration dates, and cvv. And remember, all this have to be transported securely least you start compromising all this data.

What are the applications of a digital signature?
AuthenticationAlthough messages may often include information about the entity sending a message, that information may not be accurate. Digital signatures can be used to authenticate the source of messages. When ownership of a digital signature secret key is bound to a specific user, a valid signature shows that the message was sent by that user. The importance of high confidence in sender authenticity is especially obvious in a financial context. For example, suppose a bank's branch office sends instructions to the central office requesting a change in the balance of an account. If the central office is not convinced that such a message is truly sent from an authorized source, acting on such a request could be a grave mistake.IntegrityIn many scenarios, the sender and receiver of a message may have a need for confidence that the message has not been altered during transmission. Although encryption hides the contents of a message, it may be possible to change an encrypted message without understanding it. (Some encryption algorithms, known as nonmalleable ones, prevent this, but others do not.) However, if a message is digitally signed, any change in the message after signature invalidates the signature. Furthermore, there is no efficient way to modify a message and its signature to produce a new message with a valid signature, because this is still considered to be computationally infeasible by most cryptographic hash functions (see collision resistance).Non-repudiationNon-repudiation, or more specifically non-repudiation of origin, is an important aspect of digital signatures. By this property, an entity that has signed some information cannot at a later time deny having signed it. Similarly, access to the public key only does not enable a fraudulent party to fake a valid signature.

If I self-host an ecommerce storefront with an SSL cert does it improve ecommerce security requiring registration/logins to plac
Padraic Ryan has given an excellent answer when he explained why SSL is only one aspect of having a secure shopping cart. Self-hosting means you will have to stay vigilant because you are responsible for updating the software and ensuring that your website hosting environment is secure and compliant with any regulations. If you have a secure site as described by Padraic, plus take the steps recommended by your payment processor, then mandating registration and login to place orders could be a roadblock to sales. In the early days of online shopping carts, one of the biggest complaints was the need to create an account before you could buy. Nobody wanted to create an account, which was why the shopping carts started featuring "guest checkout". Now, some carts give you the option of a "guest checkout" and then ask during the transaction if you want to create a password. You will have to decide what makes sense for your store.Given that you are asking about improving ecommerce security, I will add to Padriac’s answer by saying that you also want to be sure that you are working with a website hosting company that has made security a priority. You need to be able to signNow them in a hurry if a bsignNow occurs on your site such that you need their support in diagnosing what's happening and taking immediate steps to correct it.I can’t say it enough: work with a website hosting company that takes security seriously. The fact that they sell SSL certificates is not an indicator (that's a profit center). You want a website host whose servers are compliant, who keeps their software updated with security patches, who lets you know when they are experiencing any problems so that you are aware of what they are doing to remedy it, and who can be signNowed in a hurry if your website is attacked or bsignNowed.I also suggest that if you are self-hosting, even if you are using a payment processor, such as PayPal, who processes payments on their site rather than through yours, you should still consider make sure your shopping cart and website hosting are PCI Compliant to prevent access to the data you do store (which won't be credit card information but could be other sensitive information about your customers and their orders).PCI Compliance may seem difficult when you first get started with the process. Even understanding what some of the questions are asking you can be a challenge, but going through the process will help you to ensure that you have your software, your website hosting and your company policies and procedures in place to protect YOURSELF as well as to protect your customers. It also helps you to understand the issues involved with security. And finally, as an ecommerce shopping site, you should have a dedicated IP Address, even though it's no longer needed in order to get your SSL certificate. Why? Because some browsers still send warning messages without it, even though you have your SSL certificate correctly installed.
