Will I be able to join IISER Bhopal as I have lost my original hall ticket (stamped)?
I'm not sure if the original hall ticket is a required document. If it is, you can sign a declaration form during registration, and convey your situation to the volunteers present. They'll certainly accommodate your request, and find out an alternative, as the declaration form only says that you'll submit the required document at a later date, but given that you've lost it, that may not be possible. We get such cases every year during registration, but the IISERs are very accommodating, and helpful in these matters.

How was Kalpit Veerwal's visit to Resonance, Kota on 11/12/17?
It was amazing! When I heard the announcement about Kalpit Veerwal's visit here, I became very excited. The session was held on 11th December '17. It started from 11:30 am. Kalpit arrived at the auditorium with his parents. He and his parents were greeted by the head of respective division. The name of the session was TIPS (Topper's interaction with Present Students). He came up on the stage and shared many things with us. About his preparations, time table, time management, studies, stress, pressure, reference books and so on. The session further continued by the question-answer segment. Many students had submitted their questions which were supposed to be answered by him during the session.Later on mic was passed to students in the audience to ask him questions. Many students used this opportunity (me too) and asked him various questions and he answered them very well. He also shared about his experience he is having in IIT-B. The session ended by 1:15 pm.While the crowd was leaving some students managed to signNow to him and got selfies clicked and autographs signed too. Unfortunately, till the time I could signNow to him, he left.I am surprised to know his stamina. He gave 3 more such sessions on the same day.He is Topper = Achiever - Attitude.I wish him all the best for his upcoming bright future. :)Pic source: My phone's gallery. Thanks for your time :)

Which is the best way to cheat in an exam?
A friend of mine was involved in this method of cheating, not me mind you.It was a pretty big final exam, which contributed quite a bit to the final grade you get. I remember distinctly that this was a subject with a pretty high rate of failure simply due to the sheer amount of information you had to cram in your head. The content was only given to you (not taught, mind you) every lesson, which happened twice a week. A week before exams, lessons were still being taught, so there was little to no time to actually understand it. All the students were sick and tired about the school just telling them to suck it up and study harder. So my dear friend, and a lot of his friends, decided to help every single student taking this subject. They took the time to ask their respective teachers about everything in the syllabus, recording it with hidden microphones. Every definition, every formula, every key piece of information was, via baiting and feigning innocence, recorded. These recordings were then compiled and edited into a single 5 minute long audio file. Here's the good part. Since they knew no one would have the guts to hijack the school announcement system (doing so and getting caught meant expulsion), they got smart. The entire cohort of about a thousand students gave these group of boys and girls a dollar each, which amounts to slightly less than a thousand in total after you account for the ones who didn't pay up. This money was used to rent a truck, the kind modified with large, loud speakers, usually used for advertising in the streets. The truck driver was given the audio file, and told to play it as loud as the speakers can manage, at the moment the paper started, while driving around the school, not in the compound, but just outside. Here's what happened on exam day.11:59 am: everyone was seated, all completely unprepared for the paper. Sweaty palms, nervous faces and sudden panic was the norm.12:00 noon: the paper starts. In a nearby carpark a truck starts its engines, driving out toward the school. The audio starts to play at maximum volume.12:01 pm: the students finally realise what’s playing. The teachers overseeing the exam is shocked. Why are there voices saying the formulas and information? During the exam? Who's behind this? No one knows. The smartest students start to copy down everything they hear on any blank surface they can find, including tables, arms, palms and behind the test paper.12:06 pm: the audio loops over, school security is told to find the source of this but is unable to, despite searching school grounds. Basically every student happily breezes through the paper.12:12 pm: security notices the truck driving around the perimeter of the school. Cops are called.12:20 pm: 20% of students have submitted their paper and left early. My friend and his accomplices have already completed, but have already decided to stay and watch how things unfold.12: 30 pm: the cops arrive, mini car chase ensues as they try to get the truck driver to stop. He doesn't comply initially.12:32 pm: screeching tired are heard. The truck has stopped, the audio hasn't. 50% of the students have submitted their papers already and left.12:35 pm: the cops manage to get the truck driver to turn it down. Apparently it’s not illegal to play loud music. Another ten percent of students submit their papers.12:40 pm: students still in the hall are unable to hear the audio clearly anymore. All the other students that have submitted their papers line up around the school and collectively chant everything, within the minute all the information is being heard again. Seeing no further bsignNow of the law, the police leave, audio gets turned up again.01:00 pm: all students save my friend and his crew have submitted and left. Somewhere on campus a great big ‘fuck you' has been spray painted. Under the piece of modern art are the tires of the Dean's car, punctured already.01:10 pm: my friend and his crew leave the hall after submitting their papers. The message is spread around that any videos, information or knowledge of this information is to be deleted and/or forgotten. The disk with the audio file is crushed and discarded into a nearby canal, which leads to the sea. Truck driver is paid, and then some, to pretend nothing happened....02:00 pm :paper officially ends. Teachers are at a loss.02:10: Dean finds his tires are missing and tries to find them....A month later, result release date: students were told that they would have to resit the paper, but that every student passed. Spontaneously every student present decides not to sign on the list that certifies that they have recieved their results. The school is at a loss. Everyone leaves, and later that day the school is bombarded with emails asking about the release of their exam results. The next day every student is told to come down to collect their results. Every student passed. Many got A’s. The school goes back to the drawing board to plan what they should do the next year. And all that, is how my friend and his crew pulled off the craziest and most magnificent cheating attempt I have ever known about.

What are common scams in India?
Common Scams in India:Scene 1: Aadhar mobile number update:Went to a private Aadhar e-seva kendra, filled form and was ready to submit. Assumed it’s going to be nominal charges for same. Lady said 300rs. I said bye bye.Went to e-seva kendra. This time all done. Lady asked for 50rs. I said I know its 25rs.She said “Sir we have to pay rent as well.”I said “As you are asking very less compared to others I will pay 50rs.”Felt bad about it later. Complained to UIDAI via twitter. Got reply that they will register an official complain and take necessary action. In addition to this its very common that these e-seva center charge anything between 100–300rs for new Aadhar registration(should be completely free) or update(nominal charge of 25rs). Saw it happening in one instance, raised my voice but no one supported. Seems everyone else was just wanted to get their work done and I was creating a nuisance.Scene 2: Mobile number portability:Went to Idea store. With commanding voice, I said “I am here for MNP”, as I was giving them a new customer. Got reply from lady “minimum recharge of 475rs will be needed for MNP”. I said “MNP charge is 19rs, what recharge I do after that is my choice”. But this lead to nothing. Left the store.Visited a local idea retailer. Inquired about MNP and he said 178rs minimum recharge. Didn’t want to argue again. Paid the money and left for home. Felt bad again, later complained to idea_cellular and TRAI via twitter. Still to receive a response.Even for mobile and Aadhar linking some retailers charge money, its supposed to be completely free.Scene 3: Flash Back - Last monthHad a bad mood and my train was about to leave. Thought some water could help. Went to stall and asked for two water bottles. Vendor asked for 40rs(20rs per bottle, MRP was 15rs). I became furious and scolded him left and right. Got my money back (10rs). Complained to local DRM via twitter. Got response that action will be taken and immediate fine of 500rs is charged to vendor. You see what I am trying to say, here in our country(not only our country) people always find a way to dig out money or more money by this means or another, many are aware of it but many just ignore it. I know I can’t be idealistic all the time but it disturbs me seeing people’s common lust for money around me.Call it a scam or whatever, but it’s part of our life, it’s more of a mindset and reflection of our ideologies. We might accept it, ignore it or fight against it.Sometimes it seems like endless cycle, because “We the people” always find innovative ways to scam each other.Take Care.PS. Purpose of this answer not to brag, but to make aware. What you do after that is up to you.****Made few corrections, Thanks for views, comments and upvotes, If this helps even 1% of who read, my effort was worth of something.********Corrected Aadhaar update charges as 25rs, uidai official twitter handle communicated 25+taxes hence the confusion. I would like to thank all who appreciated me in comments. Still you see I was not perfect during handling these situations, hoping to get better with that.********Update: Idea care responded, got call from manager of said idea store, he apologised and asked me to visit again. He said there are no charges for mnp and recharge is optional. I told him to mention this everytime time any customer comes for mnp rather then projecting a mandatory recharge. Also asked to make sure his team members follow that. I said I or any of my friends will be visiting store anytime and will complain again if same incident happens. Hope this is some kind of win.Got update regarding e-seva kendra complaint as well. “Fine is imposed and warning is issued.” Couldn't check personally but this is official reply.****

What's the status of Norbert Blum's claim that [math]\operatorname{P} \neq \operatorname{NP}[/math]?
(See updates at the bottom of this answer). As of Aug 14, 2017 the status is that Blum’s preprint has been on the ArXiV for just a few days, so a few things are yet to happen. (EDIT: The paper was submitted to the ArXiV on Aug 11, which is why I thought it was up for several days, but it seems it was not visible until today, Aug 14).Computational complexity experts will likely weigh in, but haven't done so in public yet as far as I can tell – there's nothing yet on the blogs of Scott Aaronson, Lance Fortnow, RJ Lipton and others. The paper is likely already submitted for publication, and will be peer reviewed or already is. This may take a while. Those things are incredibly subtle, and there have been many honest attempts at proofs by experts in the field which did not pan out. We’ll need to wait for a few days to learn more, and I'll update this answer as things evolve.UPDATE (personal opinion, Aug 14, later in the day): I don’t think this paper will stand up to scrutiny. A profound theorem which has been as massively researched as as P[math]\neq[/math]NP will, in all likelihood, be solved with deep and far-signNowing new techniques. It’s not impossible that it will be solved with a slight enhancement of known, existing methods, but it’s just very, very, very unlikely. The present paper relies primarily on a 1999 paper[1] by Berg and Ulfberg, and attempts to modify its methods to address non-monotone circuits (as opposed to monotone ones, which are much easier to handle and for which good lower bounds have been known for decades). Successfully doing this would be an absolute sensation, and I fail to see where in the paper the author clearly delineates the heart of that sensational progress. To be clear: none of this refutes the veracity of the paper, and I could be totally and completely wrong. It is my personal assessment that it’s exceedingly unlikely that this paper contains the long-sought-for breakthrough in circuit lower bounds (see also this summary[2] by Scott Aaronson on how to “sniff” purported proofs of P[math]\neq[/math]NP.) I’ll need a lot more time to form a more informed opinion, and I expect others will do so much faster than me.UPDATE 2 (Aug 15): Scott Aaronson weighed in, and he’s not a believer. He further mentions that Luca Trevisan identified a fundamental error in the paper (Trevisan later retracted that claim.)At this point I’m personally disinclined to keep watching the paper.UPDATE 3 (Sep 2): Blum retracted his claim of having a proof. In the Arxiv article he added the comment:The proof is wrong. I shall elaborate precisely what the mistake is. For doing this, I need some time. I shall put the explanation on my homepage. This followed several comments by other experts pointing out that some of the claims in the paper contradict known results (although I'm not aware of anyone identifying which precise claim or step in the paper is incorrect).Footnotes[1] https://www.cs.toronto.edu/~toni...[2] Eight Signs A Claimed P≠NP Proof Is Wrong

India: What are things that make Indians sad?
Not only sad…rather I feel shame.Look at his face. His name was Adam. He was a stray dog. After work, I and my few other friends meet at the tea stall every day. Adam lived there, that was his terrain. He was very playful and frisky so he was the most adored and had worthy attention compared to other neighboring dogs.On a regular basis, we fed biscuits to these dogs and they used to play with us.Few months ago, when I arrived, I noticed him sitting in the corner. That was something really bizarrely weird. All these years he never sat that quiet so obviously I went to see what’s off beam with...

What are some interesting BTP(bachelor thesis project)/MTP(master thesis project) stories in IITs?
What are some interesting BTP/MTP stories in IITs? Story of N and G in IIT Bombay:N and G, two Computer Science majors, planned on doing a joint BTP. They both were 9-pointers and assumed that the "other" guy will work on the project. A week before the presentation, the adviser popped up the dreaded question:"So hows the project going?"Of course, it led to a bland stare. A week of sleepless nights and a set of presentation-slides that had some ideas for potential directions in which the problem could be approached, they went to the examiner with the adviser. There was no concrete work, no code, no hypothesis, no results. It was suppos...
