What enlightening piece of information about narcissists in general made you realize your narcissist never loved you?
Great question.First off, I did not recognize ANYTHING until after going through years of emotional abuse, horrific devaluation and discard, until finally, after I left, I crawled to my computer, completely fogged and suffering from pretty severe cognitive dissonance, and started researching things like “silent treatment” and “constant criticism” and “belittling” thinking maybe it was associated with bipolar disorder or… something…I mean, I have been through love and breakups before and this was just not normal. After then becoming obsessed with researching, after reading an article on NPD and the very clear patterns associated with being in a relationship with someone with NPD, And literally finding myself stunned to paralysis, and having the jaw dropping realization of WTF just happened, everything started to fall into place. Mind you, it has taken me hundreds of hours to begin to really “understand” NPD on an intellectual level, and I still can’t understand it from their perspective… and I still have lots of questions, but here are just a few of the things that really stood out:three years of lovebombing and claims of undying forever love and promises of marriage and all the things we were going to do and how great our lives would be since we had finally found our “best friend” and “soulmate” (his words and promises which I foolishly finally let myself believe after keeping my guard up for three years…) and literally three weeks after I finally agree to all of it and jump in with both feet, and change my entire life and my son’s life in reliance of his words and promises, (my knowing that I meant it and was completely in love with him forever, and believing that he meant every word because NOBODY says that stuff if they don’t REALLY mean it…(right?!?)), he literally “disappears” (the man I had known for the prior three years) and when I actually, consciously noticed this and asked him “where did YOU go?” He tells me “I don’t think I love you anymore.”I was like, are you FUCKING KIDDING ME??? Are you not a 50 something adult male? You said all these things, you DID all these things to get me to believe you, and THREE WEEKS AFTER I CHANGE EVERYTHING in my life you say this???? (I did not say this out loud but thought it Because I could not understand this AT ALL, i was convinced he was just having trouble adjusting and getting used to living with a young child again and having to deal with other people in close confines…although HE was the one that pushed for us living together when I was not really thrilled with that idea initially…I wanted to transition more slowlt, but he convinced me that this was silly… we were going to be together forever, obviously, plus since we had already become such great friends over the last three years it was ridiculous to think we needed a “transition” period… and SOMEHOW… i found myself fully in agreement….)Point is - NO ONE just “falls out of love” that fast. So, after he said those words, while I was still rationalizing, i was also somewhat wary and realizing I didn’t know him as well as I thought and that if he REALLY loved me, there was NO WAY he would even utter thise words. All this was followed up with several years of devaluing, abuse, hot cold, making new claims of love and then taking them back, depressed/happy, constant criticism, nothing i did was OK. Etc etc. and me just “trying” to and absolutely convinced that I could get us “back on track”… that I just need to be more thoughtful and understanding of his needs and feelings, that we just needed some time for transition, like i had wanted to do in the first place…etc etcTHEN i started becoming more concerned withHaving to have repeated conversations where I tried to get him to “put himself in my shoes” and he never EVER could or would even try or seemingly even comprehended what I meant.Noticing that he had no long term male friends.Noticing that he NEVER, not ONCE apologized for ANYTHING, NOTHING WAS EVER his fault, whereas i was making daily statements of apology even when it was overtly ridiculous.Lots and lots more, but then when he finally said I don’t want to be in a relationship anymore, and I was monitoring our internet activity because i was trying to figure out what was eating up bandwidth and discovered his excessive internet porn addiction, he claimed it was my fault he was “Looking at beautiful naked women on the Internet” since I would never sleep in bed with him…. Completely ignoring the fact that he kicked me out of the bed every night at some point or made ridiculous rules like “If you have to get up from the bed to check on your son in the middle of the night and you are gone longer than 10 minutes you can’t come back.” Or, “if you choose to come to bed after 10 PM you can’t come into bed.”Then, when i finally left, after not EVER doing something to HIM, i.e. i never criticized, abused, belittled, humiliated or made demands on him or was unfaithful to him and he treated me like i had hurt HIM, like I was some kind of unfaithful whore who had murdered his goldfish and stolen all his money (whereas HE was the lying bastard who financially destroyed ME) and he was HORRIBLE to me and my son and made my move incredibly difficult. And after ALL THIS, he texts ne a few weeks later because he “misses his friend”?!?!?!?!? And wants to “know if he can do anything to help.” ?!?!?!THEN after healing for awhile, learning a lot, and deciding OK, I’ll give in to one hoover with some VERY STRICT BOUNDARIES in place and see what he does…. He did all the same shit with lovebombing, but i wouldnt bite and THEN when I said, “i need to take this slow, see if you’ve really changed, really aren't going to start belittling me and criticizing and making incessant and unreasonable demands on my time and not understanding that just because I’m willing to “try” does NOT mean I am jumping back in with both feet… and that no, we could NOT go back to that moment in time when we had all those feelings of “raspberries and orgasms” and “undying love” … and his reaction was pure ANGER. WHAT DO YOU MEAN, WE CAN’T GO BACK TO THE ONLY GOOD PART OF OUR RELATIONSHIP?? WHATS THE POINT THEN?????At THAT MOMENT I realized……. YUP. any doubts I had that he has NPD and that he has ZERO comprehension of what it means to “love” as part of a mature relationship/partnership, evaporated. It became VERY CLEAR that his desires had NOTHING to do with ME. The only reason he wanted me back was because he needed, like a heroin addict needs a fix, those “feelings” of “true and undying love” with the dopamine and endorphin rush: he NEEDED the ability to SHOW everyone, “oh look what a good guy I am… look at the things I bought for her and how much I love her and she LOVES me, and I can just get her back and I’m so kind and courteous and gracious for taking her back and now when I buy fancy things at the store for her and tell that to the sales girls, they all fawn over me and tell me what a great guy I am and how lucky she is to have a boyfriend like me.”NONE of it was about ME. I REALIZED IT LIKE A LIGHTENING BOLT EXPLDED RIGHT ABOVE ME. IT WAS ALL ABOUT THE FACT THAT SUCKING ME BACK INTO HIS LIFE WOULD PROVE HE WAS IN POWER AND HE COULD SHOW THIS TO HIS SOCIAL MEDIA “FRIENDS” AND HIS FAMILY AND HE COULD GET ATTENTION ABOUT IT AND HE COULD GET ATTENTION FROM THE STORE CLERKS AND EVERYONE ELSE BY BUYING ME STUFF OR TAKING ME SOMEWHERE AND POSTING IT ON SOCIAL MEDIA TO SHOW WHAT A GREAT GUY HE IS.And That was my true moment of real clarity…. But it was AFTER THE FACT.that, and also when i asked him what exactly it was that he loved about me, all of his responses were about how good I looked or how good I made him FEEL. He never ONCE said anything of substance like… i love that you are smart and educated and can converse on many topics, i love that you enjoy the outdoors and hiking and that you are a great cook; or, I love how hard you try to be a good mom and that you are a caring, loyal and compassionate friend…Again…. I NOTICED THIS IN HINDSIGHT, BUT IT WAS EXTREMELY TELLING AND REALLY SEALED UP ANY LINGERING NOSTALGIA OR HOPES THAT WE COULD HAVE A REAL RELATIONSHIP OR THAT HE HAD ANY CONCEPT OF LOVE.Oh, and also, When I asked him why he thought it was OK to belittle me and call me names and emotionally abused me, he downplayed the emotional abuse claiming that he just “used abusive words” and that the reason he did it was to “punish me” as though that was perfectly normal. As though it is perfectly fine to “punish” your love partner because of something that is fundamental to who they ARE.When I expressed to him that his constant criticism and telling me all of the things that I needed to change about who I was, was not an example of unconditional love, he acted as though unconditional love was a ridiculous concept and that he had “every right” to make demands of what “behaviors” he would accept in his relationships. EXCEPT the things he referred to as “behaviors“ were not “behaviors” but fundamental aspects of who I am which he was fully aware of during the three prior years!! Like… my opinions, or beliefs or personal hobbies and traditions with my son… he considered these things NOW to be “behaviors” on which he could rightfully demand change. .???He even admitted to me that He is addicted to me…. And i responded to that email (this was right around the time of last discard) and said, ”I think this is the truest thing you have ever said to me, and by this admission, you are finally admitting that everything I have said about you not being able to really love me, is, by definition, true.” Which he then turned around and denied and claimed a bunch of stuff that made no sense in follow up to this admission of me being his addiction. (not really ME either… I just happen to be filling that spot right now…)There is Nothing about any of the above that has any traits of love. Even without fully understanding all of the clinical aspects of and NPD and why he is unable to love me, all of these words and actions, in hindsight, completely demonstrated his inability to love, i just didn’t Realize it until I did all of the NPD research and engaged in these forums and thoroughly evaluated ALL of his patterns…Oh, and in closing, after the second round, where he got so angry with me enforcing my boundaries and shooting down his delusional fantasy, that he went immediately into criticizing and discarding and then attempted to publicly humiliate me on social media,( but he’s so off his game he just ended up making a fool of himself, ) he completely disappeared. But now, over the last two weeks, he has repeatedly sent me texts and emails forwarding pictures of us from the past with comments like “sad” or “this is how i think of you” or “hoping you are at peace” which i have not responded to AT ALL. but SURELY, if he EVER loved me Or was capable of it, he wouldn’t be the cruel inconsiderate complete monster he was, destroying my Mental, emotional, physical, and financial health, harming my SON, and then think it is perfectly OK to send me emails and texts as though nothing happened and make overtures like he ACTUALLY CARES about ME, AS A WHOLE, THINKING, BREATHING, INDEPENDENT HUMAN BEING when he HAS TO KNOW BY NOW HE IS FULL OF SHIT.THIS IS JUST NOT SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT LOVE IS OR HAS ANY ABILITY TO TAKE ANOTHER PERSON’s NEEDS INTO CONSIDERATION. EVER.Sorry so long!! There is a shitload more, but those are probably the highlights.EDIT: Sorry for the edit, but I just HAD to add this picture. It's too apropos to ignore…

What are some things a Googler should do or experience before leaving to work elsewhere?
Here are some of the things I'd recommend doing before you leave:Work through all the codelabs and read through all the language style guides and best practices. Google invests a signNow amount of effort in engineering education and in producing detailed codelabs with exercises that bring you up to speed on core abstractions like protocol buffers [1], MapReduce [2], Sawzall [3], and SSTables [4]. Google's core abstractions are elegantly designed and part of why they're able to successfully build scalable, distributed systems. Their style guides and best practices for languages like C++ / Java / Python represent the distilled output from lengthy debates by early Googlers on the right way to do things, and absorbing their collective wisdom will definitely help you to become a better programmer.Attend some tech talks, author talks, and talks by celebrities. You might be able to catch Lady Gaga [5] and President Obama when he was running for office [6]. While I was at Google, I went to talks by Freakonomics author Steven D. Levitt, cartoonists for The Simpsons, presidential candidate Ron Paul, Java collections architect Joshua Bloch, Python language creator Guido Van Rossum, and many more.Run a MapReduce on thousands of machines. Few places offer you access to so many resources at your fingertips, and your first one feels quite empowering.Try out all 20 or so different Google cafes [7]. Though you can get your friends to invite you after you leave, you won't have the same flexibility later.Read design documents for major pieces of Google infrastructure. There may be research papers on distributed storage with BigTable [8] and incremental indexing with Percolator/Caffeine [9], but within Google, you have access to signNowly more resources to new cutting edge designs and in-depth explanations of why things were built a certain way. Internalizing some of those design choices will help you make better design choices in the future. If available, sign up for a tour of the ScanOps building where Google digitizes books, page by page [10]. A long time ago there also used to be data warehouse tours, but they no longer offered them while I was there.Understand how the build system works. It's hard to write a good build system. When I was at Ooyala, I was able to use what I had learned at Google to write a good command-line build tool for Flash/Actionscript to replace the buggy and broken Eclipse-based build system we were using before.Find out what Google's planning to launch next. Google's fairly open internally, and there's a lot of product information available on its internal wikis.Ride the Google conference bike [11].Use one of the Japanese Toto toilets (aka space toilets) [12].----------[1] http://code.google.com/p/protobuf/[2] http://labs.google.com/papers/ma...[3] http://labs.google.com/papers/sa...[4] What is an SSTable in Google's internal infrastructure?[5] http://www.nbcbayarea.com/blogs/...[6] http://googlepublicpolicy.blogsp...[7] http://www.yelp.com/list/google-...[8] http://labs.google.com/papers/bi...[9] http://www.usenix.org/event/osdi...[10] http://www.andrewnormanwilson.co...[11] http://www.pcmag.com/slideshow_v...[12] http://techcrunch.com/2008/06/26...

Do you think students should be required to use cursive writing in U.S. public schools?
There are some arguments for it, such as historical context and personalization of writing styles. That said, I don’t students should be required to learn or use it.Partially, this is because of my own experience as a student. We were forced to learn and use cursive in third grade when I was a child. I had no use for it and frankly did not care to learn it in the first place. My print writing was fine. I stopped using cursive in fifth grade the moment my teacher no longer required it and haven’t used it since.Today, my print handwriting is so legible that the judge I work for actually thought I’d used a font and couldn’t figure out why I’d handed him a document off of a color printer when I gave him a slightly modified order with changes in blue ink.I highly disagree with a few of Bruce Deitrick Price’s arguments.First, it is not that historic.Modern cursive writing has really been around only since about the invention of the printing press. Italian humanists who were upset at the Gothic font that Gutenberg favored for maximum print legibility revolted and adapted a monastic Carolingian script that was meant to be inconvenient and time-consuming to write as a form of protest at early industrialization and mass production of text.In the 1800’s, Platt Rogers Spencer attempted to kind of standardize the script, which was replaced with Austin Norman Palmer’s modern cursive around the turn of the 20th century, which fought with the Zaner-Bloser method for dominance in public schools. As typewriters dominated the 20th century, handwriting was already going down the tubes. As early as 1955, the Saturday Evening Post denounced the “nation of scrawlers” that would come of failing to teach cursive. Their six-decade old fears have never been founded. The consensus of scientific studies on the subject show that cursive handwriting offers no speed benefits, no legibility benefits, and no genuine advantages over print writing. [1]Requiring legibility and forcing students to work on their handwriting is important, but teaching cursive writing simply is not required to achieve that goal.Bruce argues that it requires students to learn language better. His arguments do not reflect the reality of teaching.I don’t agree that it forces students to look at the structure of words, how to spell better, or how language fits together. It might do that in other languages, but English is a terrible hodgepodge of so many languages that forcing students to learn a different character system is absolutely not an effective way to teach them language arts. I used to have a poster up in my room that said, “English doesn’t borrow from other languages. It knocks them out, drags them into a back alley, and rifles through their pockets for loose grammar.”You know what’s an effective way to teach students the structure of words, how to spell, and how language fits together? Teaching students the structure of words, how to spell, and how language fits together.Bruce’s argument that teaching only print makes all signatures look alike bears no merit. I write in all print, and my signature has slowly become P-scribble, K-scribble.Electronically signed documents are rapidly becoming an industry standard, for better or worse, and biometric signatures will become the preferred method for signing very soon. Harder to forge, easier to create and track.Bruce argues that cursive writing forces precision of writing. Jesus, no. I spent the better part of a decade in the high school classroom. I had students who could write with precision in print just fine, and I had students whose cursive was so incredibly imprecise as to be illegible. There simply is absolutely no correlation between simply forcing students to learn cursive and their writing actually becoming neater. As for reading old documents, why? Should we force them to learn abandoned Old English characters, such as the thorn, wynne, ashe, or eth? What? Never heard of those?Let me enlighten you. These were part of English not terribly long ago. In fact, not that much longer ago than the invention of cursive writing. The thorn. The wynne (or wynn, depending on what part of England you were in).The ashe or ash.The eth.Wanna read Beowulf in the original? You’ll need to know those.Should we make them learn cuneiform? Cyrillic? Simplified Chinese? The last two would be more practical than forcing them to learn an outdated method of writing for the sheer purpose of reading old stuff that has likely already all been digitally converted into legible print text.A person with a reasonable understanding of Latin characters can probably, with minor effort, at least parse out modern cursive writing post 1500 if they absolutely had to, and would likely have far greater difficulty with the syntax and spelling than the script itself. There can be a certain elegance in script. I have a friend who is a graphic designer and who loves fonts. She created her own. (I liked using it for handouts, actually.) She sometimes writes in modified printing, and sometimes in various flowing script. She did our wedding invitations and mixed the two in a way that was truly stunning, while remaining easily legible and readable. But she chooses to do this.If she’d been forced into learning a certain script in elementary school, I imagine she’d hate it to this day, as I do.No, cursive should be offered as a supplemental art, not required. Thanks for the A2A, Stacey.Footnotes[1] Cursive craze not worth the paper it’s scripted on –Kate Gladstone

What are some generally unknown facts about the Apollo Moon landings?
One thing that surprised the astronauts who visited the Moon was the strong odor of the lunar dust which they were only able to smell when they got back inside the Lunar Module. While conducting experiments on the surface of the Moon the astronauts’ spacesuits gathered the moon dust in the creases of the suit, once the crew returned to the LM and removed their helmets the dust got everywhere even on their hands and faces (some astronauts even tasted it). After coming into contact with oxygen for the first time inside the Lunar Module, the four billion years old moon dust produced a pungent smell. As most of the astronauts had a military history they could compare the aroma to that of gun powder. Neil Armstrong described the dust’s scent as similar to to wet ashes in a fireplace. This distinct smell remains a mystery as moon dust and gun powder have no similar compounds and the exact explanation remains unknown.Neil Armstrong can smell the moon dust after the first moonwalk. When Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were heading out to explore the Moon they both had to remember not to fully close the door on the Landing Module behind them. The door was closed to prevent heat escaping from the cabin but not completely in case any the cabin was somehow repressurised, which could make it difficult to get the door open. Aldrin and Armstrong joked about leaving the door open:109:41:28 Aldrin: Okay. Now I want to back up and partially close the hatch. (Long Pause) Making sure not to lock it on my way out.109:41:53 Armstrong: (Laughs) A particularly good thought.Since then some websites have claimed there was no outside handle to get back in as the engineers back at NASA thought that the weight of a handle would affect the calculations of the descent so decided to leave the door without one! Well there was indeed a handle on the hatch complete with instructions!Aldrin climbing down the ladder. He was careful not to close the hatch. We all know the famous first words of Neil Armstrong as he stepped foot onto the moon, ‘That’s one small step for man and one giant leap for mankind.’ However Armstrong’s first step out onto the Moon wasn’t small at all, in fact Armstrong had landed the Lunar Module so gently that the shock absorbers hadn’t compressed. So his first step out onto the Moon was actually close to a four foot jump onto the lunar surface. This diagram of the LM’s landing leg indicates that it was designed to compress up to 32 inches on landing. Apollo 11 landed more softly than expected.Whenever you ask people what the astronauts who visited the Moon have left behind, the first hand up in the room always mentions the American flag. However, the fate of that flag is quite sad as it was later knocked over when Armstrong and Aldrin launched the Lunar Module back into lunar orbit to join with Collins in the Command Module. After Aldrin hit the button to begin the launch he looked out the window and watched as the infamous flag was blasted away with the rest of the material left behind on the lunar surface.Aldrin and Armstrong raise the Stars and Stripes rather too close to the LM.As the Apollo 11 team arrived safely on the Earth, the crew were brought to Hawaii. Despite being the three most famous men at the time, as they had just landed on the Moon safely and returned, they were still asked to fill out a customs and declarations form at security. As you can imagine, in the section asking “Departure From:”the Apollo 11 crew had to write “The Moon”.The leaden hand of bureaucracy or a joke?Source: Google

What are some backstage secrets about Kaun Banega Crorepati?
Well, This happened to be the year 2012 when my sister was selected for this game show. There are millions who aspire to appear in the game show and very few happen to make it till the very end. Being her brother, I too got a chance to accompany her and got those few precious moments to spend with super star Mr. Amitabh Bachhan on my first visit to Mumbai. Luckily my sister made it and was able to win 12.5 lakhs. Thumbs up for her..!For those who are curious or sceptical to know the exact process of selection and various pre rounds involved, I must say a lot depends on the luck. You can take 60% as your luck and 40% as your effort. In case, If you are the one who has made all odds in your way, mark it , a lot will happen right since the KBC team would visit to make short documentary ( based on pre decided theme which is only one thing not so genuine in entire process) on you , when media glare (locally/city) begin to shower upon you, when you fly to Mumbai and check in to the luxury ( decent 3 star kind of) hotel, when you start to get a feel of temporary celeb ( contestants are highly valued persons on shooting days) , when Mr. AB first appears and amid all chaos you find him walking towards you to greet or motivate you, post winning interviews and finally huge applause back home town. After all we are not used to it and it doesn't happen often. So all that is worth it!Here are few more points, which are some behind the scenes of KBC :1. Big B looks far more fair in person than on camera.2. He comes exactly on time which for a moment made me think the direct relationship between his discipline and success 3. Big B's clothes on the set are single piece made directly from the company designers and are worth more than 10+ lakhs..! 4. The KBC set looks like an abandoned bunker or atleast like a garrage from outside. However, the crew maintains perfectly balanced Air conditioning inside it.5. Post 2012, the set has been shifted to YRF , up till then, it was in film city, goregaon.6. The set of popular TV serial " Tarak mehta ka ulta chashma" is also close by and the known Gokul dhaam society is visible from the common road.7. When Big B arrives on the set, he is escorted to his cabin where he is detailed about the background of each contestants.8. He goes through the script which appears on screen and thus gets ready for episode. Meanwhile contestants are also being dressed. Everything happens with perfect balance.9. There is another cabin not adjacent to big B's cabin, where the contestant who has recently quit/won/lost the game, is made to sit till the shoot is over. There also sits the Sony channel official, who validates the authenticity or transparency of the show.10. The guy who puts the question in the computer in real time ( big speakers present) also sits with his macbook and other gadgets (sits comfortably on floor with smiling face due to paucity of space) in that crowded cabin.11. The shoot also faces frequent disturbances from the sparrows sound above the hot seat glass tranquilliser. The shoot remains halted till the staffs make rod sounds to scare them away and avoid their voice getting recorded.12. Big B keeps the environment very jovial, and never let's the crowd sit silent for long. He keeps cracking jokes. However , I sat in his vicinity from 7 a.m till 9 p.m for two long days and was a bit bored.13. The set has the facility to serve food for all the audience, staff and every single person involved free of cost.14. The famous entrance through which AB appears in the beginning is nothing but few steps on right angle. The camera is focussed towards the background screen.15. At the end, contestant's companion are allowed for the much awaited, time to meet and talk Mr.AB . He spends sometime , talks about family , accepts gifts if any, gives blessing to younger ones and meanwhile photographers keep clicking you. He also doesn't mind giving autograph on every piece of paper you have got that time.At the end , you will be satisfied with their transparency and professional service which they maintain till your account is credited and they remain in touch till they give you feedback about the broadcast and inform about the TRP ratings of the episode from contestant's hometown. These are few moments which I shared with Mr. Amitabh Bachhan. The cheque which Mr. AB signs in the show is a dummy one.Edit 1: Thank-you folks for the response and your interesting queries.

Is Initiative Q a scam?
It is quite a scam.It isn’t a blockchain or a cryptocurrency, it will just be like any other centralized online payment system like Venmo and PaypalVenmo and paypal aren’t bad, but they aren’t great either and they are as centralized as can get. You can get your funds frozen by paypal, hacked, the government can shut it down etc. etc.The same applies to InitiativeQ, everything that happens with it or with your funds is decided by their CEO.ConclusionInitiativeQ isn’t a scam 100%, but it’s quite scammy, because it claims that it will become one currency when already many, many other centralized online payment systems or currencies exist. Best case it could become like Paypal or Venmo, but they haven’t even built anything and building reliable fraud detection systems takes years. It will become a true scam once it launches and starts taking and managing people’s money, becuase a centralized currency cannot become the one and only true currency, becauseIt can be shut down and controlled by the governmentIt can shut down when the founder loses the desire to continue working on itIt can shut down when a new CEO comes in who is an idiot, because he runa the company into the ground, which is the case around 50% of the timeIt can screw up and lose the users’ funds, because of hacks, bugs, lawsuits, mismanagement so easilyIt is very prone to fraud compared to the blockchain and will be very vulnerable to fraud in the first 5 years, where people will lose a lot of money until it has matured. All in all, you can sign up to Initiative Q and claim your coins as long as you don’t pay anything for it! They don’t have anything new and they don’t have anything at all as of right now.
