What features are teachers looking for in mobile applications they can use in the classroom?
When I was in college I was enrolled in a particuarly experimental class that leveraged mobile as means to better engage the students. As "smartphones" continue to offer improved technologies, saturate the market, better integrate with personal-computers, and become an integral part of our daily lives — it's only logical that they would start to play a central role in our curriculum. Since there are countless different approaches, methods, and strategies any teacher could employ, the number of potential "features" a teacher could find useful is limitless. But, here are a few examples of features I found to be particularly useful, both from a student as well as a teacher's perspective: Collaboration // Group DiscussionDuring lectures my professor would project a large, interactive chat room in the front of the room. Students who would sign in via their phones (or personal computer) could live-ask questions live or provide constructive commentary. This was useful for students who wan to participate but didn't feel comfortable raising their hand or disrupting the teacher mid-lecture. This was useful for the teacher as means to actively see if and how students are following the notes. If several students are asking similar questions then s/he knows what points/ideas need further discussion/clarification. Or, if it's a one-off question or comment, a professor-assistant (or even fellow student) could privately message the asker. Further exploration / improvement of a mobile feature such as this could lead to further crowd-sourced efforts among the students, as well as help/encourage connecting outside of the classroom. Notes / Exchange:Dropbox and EveryMe are great examples of platforms that allow for the seamless exchange between desktop and mobile. Using Cloud-based services like this allows students to access information in one place from another, streamlining group efforts where students can access and contribute to the discussion on-the-fly. Sign-In:Though I was never a big proponet of required attendance myself, teachers could use location-based services to allow students to confirm their attendance by signing in with their mobile-phone. Bluetooth / NFC: Rather than handing out a large course-sylabi, physical documents or lesson-plans (things I was always particularly susceptible to losing), my professor often preferred to digitally send materials via Bluetooth, allowing them to be downloaded instantly and then accessed anywhere. From here, there are a myriad of potential innovations possible. One in particular I would have liked to have seen, and benefitted from, would have offered further integration/synchronization into the phones native calendar and notification system. Instead of manually recording all of the important dates or regularly referencing the course syllabus, students would be automatically organized and consistently reminded to upcoming dates of interest. An interactive calender would also afford the teacher the ability to provide perpetual updates to existing events or add new assignments.

DropBox: How does DropBox algorithm work ? From when the user add/edit a file to the file being in Dropbox server.
Dropbox can determine that a file has changed by performing a Hash function of the file to see if matches the hash of the one on its system. If they don't match, the file has changed. Dropbox Help Center says they can determine what part has changed by performing a "binary diff" or Delta encoding How do I use the Dropbox badge to collaborate? (Dropbox Help Center) discusses how two users can collaborate on a file and what happens when both edit the file at the same time. TLDR: each person is notified of the conflict. What's a conflicted copy? has useful information about what happens when the two users ignore the warning, or if one user did not have the desktop software running. TLDR: Two versions of the file will be created and you will have to merge them by hand.

How does Dropbox Carousel compare to other photo sharing services?
Dropbox Carousel feels young and without a niche. As of today, release day, it has very few features. Your Dropbox photos are always listed chronologically and grouped by day. You can select many pictures easily and then one-swipe share with a few of your Dropbox contacts accompanied by a short message. This starts a conversation where you can continue to add more and more photos and continue talking. That's pretty much it...Additionally, I can't figure out what niche that Carousel is trying to fill. It has to be meant for camera photos. If I imported pictures from a DSLR, for example, I'm already sitting at a computer. It's not meant for large-scale sharing. It's laborious to add multiple people to a thread, and you can't add people to conversations retrospectivelyIt's not meant for one-time sharing of an album of pictures. There's no capacity to save a group of photos to blast out to multiple people. It's meant to be permanent. Photos only show up if they're in your Dropbox, the users' most secure and universal folder. They are not viewable off portable devices, so sharing with family members on a big TV or computer screen is not the intent either. Users need plenty of Dropbox space to spare, because moving them out to conserve sync space removes them from Carousel. I know you get 2 free gigabytes for signing up, but pictures can fill 4 gigs pretty quickly. Thus, the intended demographic of Carousel appears to be is signNow others or family members who take lots of pictures separately and want to consolidate their favorite memories to relive separately on their own cell phones. And who have tons of Dropbox space. Umm...Anyway, to answer the comparison question:Snapchat has the directed sharing model that Carousel, but one of the draws is that the photos disappear right afterwards. It's like a dialogue, an impromptu conversation for a quick laugh or news flash.Instagram fills the niche of mass-sharing of camera phone pictures with artsy filters and seamless integration. It's how people craft their visual internet persona and combine it with Twitter.Facebook does something similar to Instagram, but I get the impression that people now tend to use it to haphazardly dump hundreds of photos of get-togethers to show off to their friends who didn't go. Tumblr you can count if you'd like, but Tumblr is just Tumblr. They pride themselves in the cult.WhatsApp I literally don't know anything about. Seriously, Facebook's acquisition was the first time I heard the name. Thus, Carousel will not clash in the slightest with any of those. Carousel may be similar to Google+ users sharing photos synced automatically on Drive, but they won't overlap much because few people backup their stuff on both Drive and Dropbox. Now I'm a die-hard Dropbox fan and a photographer, so I use Dropbox Photos and Albums all the time. I was extremely excited when I heard about Carousel today. Like unreasonably excited. However, after giving Dropbox Carousel a test run, I really like the sleekness and simplicity of it, but I don't know how I'm ever going to use it!
